  1. Yessir. It all comes down to the beat rate. For a Rolex 3135, you have a 28.800bph movement; ETA 2824-2 and 2836-2 are the same- 28.800bph. Visually, you won't see a difference here. Now... If you're talking vintage, that's another story. Genuine rolex vintage calibers (1570 for example) beat at 19.800bph. In this case, the ETA 2824/36 calibers have too smooth of a 'sweep' (an incorrect term, but fitting for the explaination). For these jobs, I retrofit ETA 2846's, as the beat rate is 21.600bph; a bit faster still, but we're talking about 5 ticks/second vs. 5.5 ticks. I don't think anyone will notice that half tick is missing.
  2. Warren- How thick are those markers? I might have an idea...
  3. I don't even know what a chron job is? :cc_confused: Okay... Maybe I do. But I wouldn't know how to write one
  4. Great write up. An excellent comparison between gen and rep!
  5. I have chron jobs set up to autmoatically check and update tracking every 2.2 minutes and update to my email.
  6. Okay, Michael and Rocket... We just need to find a good place to meet. Preferrably one that's somewhat central with good parking
  7. What's the story on those MBW Militares? Is it the same MBW I'm thinking of?
  8. Let me just say... When it comes to lubing 'her' up... Dinner and a movie don't get you [censored] So... Better to just spend that money on an ETA servicing
  9. I am looking into the possibility of having custom dials made
  10. Yogi shot... It's been a long time since I heard that term! I dig the AP... The car... Not quite so much
  11. It's a Royal Oak day for me... Tomorrow...
  12. Looking at EL's and Ruby's... I would definitely take EL's new version over Ruby's. No bash on Ruby... But EL's is still better. Here's why... Ruby's- -Date mag is too strong (yes, I know...). YM's have a 2.0x date mag, as opposed to the usual 2.5x. Ruby's looks to be almost 3.0x. -Bezel is incorrect. The inside diameter of the bezel insert is way too large, hence making the actual bezel insert thinner in width. See how the inner edge is right at the bottom of the bezel markers numbers? Compare it to gen... -Visible crystal gasket above the rehaut. -Bad dial printing. SWISS MADE is quite weak; YACHT-MASTER is not bold or dark enough. -Bad CG's and bad crown. EL's new YM just looks much better. Correct date mag, correct bezel width with the bezel markers being much more accurate. Only gripes are the dial (which can be changed, but it does have the darker YACHT-MASTER font), and the crown and CG's are no where near what the genuine looks like (but personally, I'd change those as well anyways). To illustrate what I mean.... Here is Ruby's.... Here is EL's... And here is genuine...
  13. Thanks for the recs, guys! Rim (and Jeff)- Looks like acetimer has what I need. Thanks for the tip
  14. Hey gang, Looking for some suggestions on a low cost 12 watch case. I'm in search of something low profile, preferrably without a display window on the top and easy to carry around. Leather or wood finish... I've seen watchprince's, corley's, stuff on eBay, etc. They just don't appeal. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks much, R
  15. Good deal. Glad to know it's not something more serious
  16. A few thoughts... If you can change the date cleanly using the crown or by advancing the time with the crown, the watch should be fine. If the date hangs up/sticks/doesn't advance in either/both of these manual changes, the datewheel overlay is most likely rubbing on the back of the dial, hence causing the wheel to stick. Also... I've found that if you manually change the date using the crown in the 1st pull out position close to the date changeover time (i.e. midnight), the date will not actually advance once midnight rolls over (e.g. if you change your date from the 25th to the 26th at 11:00pm, it will remain the 26th for the next 24 hours). I've found this to be common on all of my 2824's/2836's/2846's.
  17. K- I hadn't thought of trading/selling, but let me give it some thought
  18. Gorgeous pics, T! Very nice! The Portuguese is lovely as well How does this compare to, say, a 40mm Rolex?
  19. Heh heh... Don't tell anyone, but the PAM shrank in the wash That's why it looks smaller!
  20. That's going to be one hell of a GST! Can't wait to see the finished product!
  21. How skinny is said wrist? Mine is on the thinner side at 6.80", but lots of +/- depending on weather, etc. 36mm Royal Oak 36mm DateJust 40mm Sub 40mm Daytona 44mm Panerai Ultimately, I think it depends on the shape of your wrist as well. If you have a flatter, more oval shaped wrist, you can get away with wearing quite a few different styles, especially ones with long cases and integrated lugs like the Royal Oak which have a tendancy to overhang if your wrist is of a rounder shape (did that even make sense?!).
