  1. OK, I have it roughed together and I've decided I'll probably have to machine some sort of spacer to thread into the case and then thread a shortened tube and crown into that. The spacer will be painted red so hopefully it will get the general look. I had to order an M3 x .35 thread die so it will be a little while before it is finished. This will be Rev. 1 of the project and some day when there are more good straight-on large pics of the gen, if it hasn't been repped, I'll re-do the dial artwork with the Tudor the correct size and font. But, for right now I'm fairly happy with the looks and I think I've captured the "essence" of the gen... Here's a couple shots of the test fitting. The tube is not finished and the stem has been left long on purpose to leave some for final fitting... The "blush" didn't dry out of the clear so I guess I'm stuck with it but it has a nice "vintage" feel. On the close-up I see that I didn't get my decal perfectly centered but it's not too apparent on ther wrist: The T21 presents a profile very close to the one on the gen so I'm pretty happy with that: I'm not sure what the clasp on the gen looks like but I figured this would be a nice touch:
  2. R, it's just an old paper-clip bezel I had laying around. I'll machine a "proper" one some day...
  3. Well, I may have messed up the dial by rushing things. I thought I'd be slick and speed up the drying process with a hair-dryer and after the dial was finished I started getting some blotches of blushing. Oh well... Maybe I'll just beat it up , vintagize the whole thing, and say it was retrieved from 2072 with an experimental time machine...
  4. The artwork is done just a matter of executing it on a sterile crown... Cuba - I'm not sure I understand your question. Just a cheapo Sub case and I ground off the CGs...
  5. Yeah, the crown may very well be wishful thinking on my part...
  6. When the Tudor Black Bay came out it wasn't necessarily love at first sight but I thought it was a striking watch so I decided I might try to at least capture the essence of the beast. I ordered a cheapo red bezel insert off fleabay, dug a "modern" sub case out of the junk box, and started modifying my 7928 artwork. Today the gold ribbons for my printer and the insert got here so I figured I'd better get started. It may be several weeks before it's finished but it WILL get done. Step one was to put the case to the grinder: Although the gen is suipposed to have a domed sapphire none of the aftermarket ones lookes right from the profile view but a T21 looked really close so that will go in with the regular Sub bezel and red insert: I sacrificed one of my Maxi 14060 dials to make a blank (and for the markers): I then printed out some decals and sprayed a light coat of satin sealer on 'em: The decal was then applied to the blank: After it dries really good I'll spray on another coat of clear and glue the markers back on. This is probably about all I'll get accomplished on it this weekend. I will eventually try to machine a fine coin-edged bezel and attempt a crown.
  7. In support of Hike's hike...
  8. Yeah, probably the ones not listed can be guessed close enough...
  9. I'm in for wearin' the Explorer, too! Lemme fish it out... F, thank you for doing a little "living" for all of us - wish I had the stones to try something like that!!! Have fun and stay safe.
  10. I could probably do it a bit cheaper than that. I will need measurements, though...
  11. The ones in the top picture look flat, though.
  12. I used to have a source but the last one I got for somebody they said it was crap so I guess your best bet would be to try to buy a dead seconds at 6 Daytona for cheap...
  13. Hes, F, you be careful and come back to us more or less intact! Have fun!!! Today...
  14. The blue one has a gen movement and this one has the Asian Valjoux copy. Both have gen crowns and tubes as well...
  15. Don't vintagize it by tossing it out in the driveway and driving over it... Don't trust water proof claims unless properly tested Make sure all of the bracelet screws are tight
  16. Yup, then if PM rotate the hands around until you pass 12:00 once then set time...
  17. Happy B-Day, Red! It is also my youngest's birthday...
  18. Looks nice, I have not really paid much attention to the Roles DD reps but the black dial is really classy. It looks like you have a bracelet screw about to fall out in pics 3 and 4, I'd hate for you to loose it...
  19. I would think a gen should be perfect! But, since the LEC is virtually invisible on a gen crystal the magnifier would be my top priority.
  20. On reps nothing is ever a constant! I have ordered a couple SEL bracelets from my parts guy and he told me that he couldn't guarantee that a bracelet from "Factory A" would line up with a case from "Factory B". I rather believe him on that fact as I have a couple newer sty;e DJ bracelets that I have no cases they will fit up to...
  21. R, that 'Dweller is bitchin' for sure...
