I doubt any of the various "blade" techniques would have worked with a cross-threaded screw. When this happens you either twist it off or drill it out...
Funny that the other two "major" boards were giving RWG a "virtual tar and feathering" for not immediately banning the perp but went totally silent after judgement was rendered. In my opinion there are a few folks who owe appologies for their attitudes and insinuations during this process...
The last few things I've received through this entry point never even showed it went through Customs, just sat in "limbo" for about a week and it showed up in my mailbox...
I'm glad there was not a rush to judgment and that the team went through a proper discovery process/period.
Kudos to the admin team. Being the admin of a motorcycle related forum I know first-hand that it is a thankless job and they have performed it admirably.
I've never had much luck to speak of when re-pressing a mineral glass crystal into the little ring gasket, all it takes is an itty-bitty nick and it won't seal anymore. Nowdays I just toss it and bed the crystal in with clear epoxy...
I just remembered I have a no-date 2801-2 left over from the TZ Level 1 school and I looked at this part and it's very different than just grinding off a bump. instead of a missing bump it has a "notch" for each position and sort of a triangluar shaped bump between the two. This gets rid of the date position and still keeps a positive detent for winding AND time set position. I've ordered one from Borel to see if this is actually what I get, or not...
I guess I misspoke, filing the bump didn't make the time-setting "fiddley" but required some inward pressure on the crown while hand-winding or the stem might slip out to the date-set "area" which will cause it to "free-wheel". The "spring" contains the detents that keep the mechanism latched into whatever mode you want.
I think I'll order one of these parts...
I'm trying to figure out just exactly what part inside a 2824 costs $180!!! I think you need to find another watchsmith.
Zig - I have had several Asian 2824/2836 with "mal-formed", or buggered, gear teeth on assorted wheels. Luckily "real" ETA parts have dropped right in with no problems...
Only gen is the Prince Oysterdate but I do have a Franken of it. The Ranger and Prince Date are 100% rep parts, I gues the Air-King might be considered an "Uber Franken", while the DJ, OP, and Date-Day are "Franken Lites" with just gen dials.
You just asked for suggestions, you didn't specify they all had to look drastically different!
