  1. There is a lot to choose from. Rolex DJ, Explorer, Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Tudor Ranger, Prince Date, Prince Oysterdate, Oyster Prince Date-Day, etc...
  2. Is this the case that the "budget" vintages come in now?
  3. I can send you one back with, well, you know what...
  4. I use a single-edged razor blade with no problems...
  5. Is that what vintage QGs are actually supposed to look like before being polished to death for 60 years? Looks good...
  6. Sure hope Hike gets to the top, soon, so I can start wearin' something else!
  7. I may have some parts to build one if you can't find one ready-made...
  8. Glad y'all like it and it's also kinda fun to wear!
  9. Man, I love that watch! Back in spirit with Hike...
  10. It seems to me that it would make more sense to ask Trevor!
  11. I believe this experiment has reached it's conclusion. Although it's by no means accurate I think I've captured the "essence" of the original. Someday when there are more "in the wild" pictures floating around I may attempt to brew up something a bit more accurate if it hadn't been repped by then. It would be a shame for this not to be repped as 90% of it would likely be stock "off the shelf" parts. I took a run-of-the-mill sapphire Submariner case and ground off the CGs and then filed and polished the crown size to shape. I then added the red insert to a "paperclip spring bezel" from some vintage case and it snapped right onto the mid-case, this gives me an bi-directional bezel. I sacrificed a Maxi 14060 dial, applied a modified 7928 gilt decal, and then reattached the hour markers. The Tudor font is not correct for the Heritage but is a throwback to the vintage model, a future decal may contain the correct fonts. I then modified a set of ETA snowflake hands and mounted the dial and hands to a DG2813 movement. These hands are a bit short for this dial so if anybody that has complained about getting hands that were too long for their gen dial could tell me where they got them from I'll get me dome! I chucked up the tube in the lathe and machined the area smooth where the big O-ring sits and then turned a thin red plastic ring to slip over this area. I then chucked up the crown and thinned it by about 50% so now when the crown is fully screwed down you see the portion of the tube with the red spacer. This red is not dark enough so the search will continue for a better material to make this red spacer from. The build is topped off with an Oyster bracelet with a Tudor signed Flip-Lock style clasp. I have not seen any pictures of what the clasp on the gen looks like so I don't know if this is even close. Here's some pics of the outcome of this experiment: Thanks for looking...
  12. I reluctantly take a break from my pledged Explorer exclusivity to wear my latest toy...
  13. I have no idea about the size of the gen, I was pretty much locked into 28.1 mm since this is the size of my no-date dials and also the size the case needed. I suppose it will be fairly easy to figure out stuff like this when more pics are available of it.
  14. I actually need a tad longer hands. These were perfect for a 26mm dial...
  15. OK, I guess I can consider Rev. 1 of the Black Bay "Homage" finished. I put a rep tube in the lathc and modified it and put a red plastic ring around where the large O-ring would have went and I seriously thinned the crown and turned off the coronet. Someday I will try to build a holding fixture for the crown and attempt to engrave it. The red is not the correct shade but will have to do until something a bit darker comes along. Here's a wristie of the finished Rev 1.
  16. Hanging in there in spirit with Hike... I will wear this 'til he gets to the top!
  17. Maybe a little red plastic spacer/sleeve might also work. I'll just have to give it some thought... This particular dial is a hair over 28mm. 26mm would have been perfect for the hands as these are a bit on the short side for this dial...
