  1. Looks yummy, even if it is green! Insert fit is excellent!
  2. That explains the bashed in corners on some of the boxes I've received! They must be unionized government employees... :-\
  3. I bought a 20 watch box for $60 something/shipped off fleabay. Top (under glass lid): Drawer:
  4. A lot of t he issues y'all raise can be fixed/prevented with some PM and QC. I only wear Rollie and Tudor so I probably don't have a lot of the wierd screw issues that some do but the solutions/safeguards are the same. Bracelet screws are always trying to escape, it seems, so on daily wear watches I remove and apply a dab of Loc-Tite "blue" to every screw. After doing this I've never lost a bracelet screw. I think this procedure could also be applied to some of the other "strange" watches that have bezel screws, screw-down backs, etc. Just remove the screw with a well fitting screwdriver, apply a touch of thread-locker, then screw it back in.
  5. Since you have a lot of issues with screws falling out that could be remedied as simply as r&r screws with Loc-Tite.
  6. The Princess Oysterdate my wife has uses the same...
  7. I guess several of the "SSD" that people have sent me to drill were not actually SSD as they had a fake HeV. Perhaps there were several "factories" making them...
  8. If I can come up with a tool that will machine Plexiglas without leaving the surface something akin to the texture of an LP then turning out crystals might not be such a distasteful proposition.
  9. I do believe the old SSD had fake He valve as well. I would think a phoney valve would be a blessing on a beater as it's one less feature to leak and most folks epoxy closed functional ones anyway!
  10. OK, got both hands back so I decided to do something about finishing this thing up. There are several other things that could be done to it but I'm happy with it the way it stands right now. Being one handed gave me the excuse to learn a few new CNC commands and I decided to crunch out a new crystal since I cracked the DW crystal the same day I built it. The ID and OD of the crystal are a perfect fit for the DW case so no modding of case or bezel was required. The main thing I didn't like about the DW crystal was it's pronounced "dome" shape. I made this crystal more along the lines of a T19 with the internal and external surface faces having about a 5.5" radius, straight sides, and a 45 degree bevel on the top. I made it just a bit taller than the DW crystal. Anybody who has followed my builds over the years knows I try to get the most "bang for the buck" but in this case I'm not really sure the effort required to turn out a crystal was really worth it when gens are available for less than $200. On the other hand, my cheap gene overrode common sense and prevented me from buying a gen crystal. After polishing the new crystal I epoxied on an ofrei cyclops and called it good. It really needs some more polishing on the inside but the roughness is not really apparent on the wrist other than giving the impression of age. I used the typical rep 455b end links and after a bit of bending and re-shaping don't seem to me to fit any worse than some of the more expensive ones I've seen used. I left the DW crown in place as it's profile really isn't too bad and I'll reserve my gen crowns to replace the fat-a$$ crowns we are unually stuck with on subs. Here's a few pics of the finished project and thanks for taking a look:
  11. Kerbus - Was yours a 2836? The case tube height mut be correct for the 2836, then, as a standard movement spacer/ring only takes up the gap between movement OD and case ID. You can also build in some "shim" to add more space between the dial and movement (lowering the effective stem height).
  12. Oh, I gotcha! If you get the a21j version then the hands should swap onto a low beat from , say, Borel. If you start with the ETA version then you'll need different hands as well. That's really not a bad idea since the high-beat a21j movments aren't as easy to come by "in the wild" as the low-beat version. Or, swap it into a low-beat a21j rep that should be high-beat...
  13. Jules Borel MG25 295 for crystal. It would be interesting to see if this "new and improved" version has the same crystal size as the old SSD which I think was 29.5 x 3.0...
  14. You can order the 5512 (and probably the 1680) with a21j already.
  15. It need to be sufficiently "shimmed" or I think you can use a 2836 date disc.
  16. Yummy watch, R! "Not" blue...
  17. That should look nice, I'm looking forward to you finishing it!
