PAM236 Review - Rep236K (a7753 version) vs. Gen236i
PeteM replied to bollobandit's topic in The Panerai Area
The key thing on all these PAM reps with Asian 7753s as you get them is to get them serviced straight away, its worth the extra wait!! I say that more so than I would with the other rep movements although its always advisable -
And I am more flabbergasted you maintained your attention long enough to post that
-
As far as I am aware the only exception to that would be the JF case set ? What about WMs 1:1 project? Is there not an option there?
-
Despite its flaws it is a nice watch in its own right I have mine away being ARd and lumed correctly!! As for the colours fortunately given the scarcity of them I think its unlikely to be noticed by many fortunately !! I think just like the current gen it is an homage to the real Mare Nostrum !! PS Welcome 3chibis, always good to get gen knowledge on the forum
-
I dont think you should take that route in MHO mate I suggest you source a new crystal (sapphire or mineral) remove the AR though if you get one of Rexs they can be pretty close to gen. Replace that then if dont want it sell it and get yourself into the vintages. If your in a budget then go to DSN or Hike, if you want to spend double that then to NW etc mate. Though if your set on that route contact DSN and Jacksontse as well I think but defo DSN.

The problem is the positioning of the lug holes on certain cases, that is the cause of the fitment variations. The maker of the new style PAM bracelet produces them in the main for the 196 Lite version. As an aside apparently Polo can get them too. Though I got mine elsewhere. Just saw Robert does them for $50
-
It always amazes me with DSN how, considering his sources and buying power, that his new models seem to get worse in the main. We all know, he knows what needs doing yet its always one step forward and two steps back!! I reckon he is on a back hander from OP
-
+1 but try Hirsch as well you can get good deals if you shop about and they are the makers of the gen PAM straps so they are as close as you will get Also agree on that deployant it looks more gen than my gen ones!!!
-
Now that is what I call PVD porn !! Sweet watches mate, congrats. I think you will of devalued it with that inscription on the caseback !!!
-
Put the rep croc out of your head mate, total waste of time!!!! Get the bracelet or rubber, personally I would order the 236 and an extra rubber with deployant. If you want the OEM alligator then get OEM nothing else matches it IMHO. Pick them up used on Risti or here etc. If you go Panatime etc remember these arent real just printed so they are no comparison to reall Alli like the gen. If you want the next best option to gen then go to Hirsch they actually make the gen straps for Panerai so thier branded ones are pretty close and slightly cheaper!!

I think the only time I would consider a credit loan for a watch would be if the watch was at such a price or so rare that it was worth taking out the credit. But I would make sure I could repay it without penalty as soon as possible. The credit available from any store whether interest free or other is as Doc says marked up to offest any potential loss under the credit arrangement by the seller. I genuinely wish you luck in getting a PAM, theres nothing like a gen on your wrist!! except maybe 2!! And I hope it doesnt lose you money however you choose to procure it But I know how much excitement can be created at the thought of a new watch especially a gen just dont let your heart rule your head in your decision, take your time step back give it some thought and research other options.... they might be out there and be more favourable. I know in the UK there are a lot of dealers like WatchfinderUK who will offer credit to buyers or trade watches (as long as you except they will value yours at trade and trade theirs a Market value) I have also seen plenty in Europe who do the same and there is a big chain in the US that do it too, I keep seeing them talked about on BreitlingSource.com. They will send watches wherever you are it can all be done with confidence over the long distance options.

Ordered a rep: Watch in UK Conventry. Any Chance to get it?
PeteM replied to BuyersRemorse's topic in General Discussion
Calm down mate Will go to exchange next then out to depot then out for delivery. Can take a couple of weeks though thats rare worst I had was 6 days awaiting customs charging -
Thanks Mark I shall try that
-
I think Trustytime offers to send his watches via UK now so watch is sent to italy within the EU...... Extra charge but more piece of mind

But if you buy using finance from a dealer you will pay full dealer mark up you come to sell that you will lose at least 20% probably more if your impatient. By impatient I mean only waiting a few months. Its the equivilent of buying a brand new car once you drive it off the forecourt you have lost money. You walk out with that watch it will be worth lessimmediately then you try to sell reasonably quickly it will be worth even less than that. Depending on the watch on average I reckon a 5 grand outay will get you 3 grand to spend maybe 3.5 but no more mate.... I can only assume that if you cant get credit from a dealer that does sell PAMs then you shouldnt be using credit. Any dealer can sell a PAM what you mean is your dealer wont make the effort to source one for you.... I guess because he cant get one with enough of a margin to make a good profit like he does on the brands he sells you. If your insistent on taking this route then perhaps looking for a dealer that will do a trade deal with you might lose you less money.... than just selling it and buying again
-
I am not really sure what your expecting guys here to say? If you want to lose money on a watch intentionally thats your call. The fact you cant get a line of credit elsewhere (if thats the payment method you prefer) would suggest you should keep hold of money and save for it. If your determined to take that route then its up to you mate. If the only source of credit you have doesnt or wont get in a used or new PAM, as you must know the store doesnt need to be an official OP dealer to do so. Then just stick to what you seem to have been doing already with the models you can pick from and hopefully wont intentionally lose money on. Though I must admit even with 0% interest in the first year I cannot see how you cannot lose a fair bit of money given the mark up'ed price you must have to pay for your watches and how that can work out for you under any length of the term?

How much worth are Gens and Reps if you removed all Trademarks
PeteM replied to BuyersRemorse's topic in General Discussion
As well as the trademark you need to factor in or out depending which way your looking at it... Marketing Research and development Overheads and profit Distribution After sales, customer services, warranty etc Its not just the brand name, even the materials arent comparable in the main eg Rolex use 904L steel not 316 etc etc Neither is the labour comparable in a lot of its production Looks like I was typing as you submitted Freddy !! -
I find running the CG in a single direction about a dozen times on a couple of fine grit papers gives me the grain which I then finish off with Scotch brite. But as directed before Houndoggie does a nice tutorial on RG and WC I just customised that to suit what I thought looked more gen like.

Hi guys Not being much of a knowledgeable guy when it comes to movements I need some advice on an escapement issue I am having on the new asian 7753. Basically the movement stopped so after the usual playing about I opened the CB and found the Pallet spoon had slipped over. Overbanking I think its called. Any way I took out the balance spring and replaced it back again with the PSs correctly placed. It has done it twice now in the space of a few hours and I am not sure what to try next. It keeps slipping. As far as I can see everything is replaced as it should be. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks
