@ Akira & LHOOQ:
The man is my best friend, we've been through thick and thin together, I've known him for nigh on 40 years, he was best man at my wedding, we holiday together, I am godfather to his children and I agree. He is the enemy. He must, and will be crushed, minced and fed to the fishes. OK the hunt is on. V72 here we come. Now, I have two small and am told quite cute children, one aged four the other nearly two, anybody care to make offers for them? I will accept paypal (buyer pays fees) but no returns if goods are not to your satisfaction, buyer beware.

No brainer. Keep the 1680.

WTF!

Fantastic stuff automatico. It's amazing what can be achieved with knowledge such as yours. If only I had a small slice of it.

LHOOQ, I know I am slightly obsessing about these dials but if I might explain a mate of mine from way back when is constantly ribbing me about my 7750 'coz he has got a V72 (which I had built and sold to him- he knows nothing about reps). Now, I have beaten him with my watchNY bezel (his is DW) and my crown is NOS tall coronet 703 (his is service replacement), I've got a gen 78350 bracelet (his is gen 7835 but has been cobbled together) so I really would like to be able to trump him with a decent (albeit 7750) dial but it seems like this is an impossibility. Please, please throw me a bone here, he's my oldest dearest friend and if I can't grind his nose in the dirt what the hell am I supposed to do!?! After all, what are friends for?

Well, DW new production is way better than the one Akira showed us. Better stay away from sunburst finishes and silver dials : it can never match the gens... Too many variations possible with silver tone, and too hard to recreate the soft texture of the rolex sunburt finishes. Somes have done it before, but it is seldom to see a really convincing example. So black is the way !!! 6238 type dials, and of course PNs. I am having David working on a new design now... The production will be ready in two weeks or so.
I look forward to that. How will we get to see photos of these new dials?

@ Akira. Fair point. And I agree it is decent. So phong makes 7750 dials? I bet they are good but I don't like his prices. I still find it frustrating that rep makers go to all the trouble of replicating, for example, a dial then mis-align batons or minute markers or whatever. Seems so silly.

@ Akira
I appreciate the photo and input but lets face it, that's not a great dial is it.

The GMT master is the first gen rolex I ever saw. Some rich kid at school wore one when he was 14 years old! Very nice, like the step by step photos. Enjoy.

@ japanic - now that's a cracker. Gen dial and case for lees than a grand, is this possible? Where would you source the parts ebay? I've got a 2836 in my parts box, tempting...
-
Andy, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about but I'm not sure the gen insert passes the VFM test!?!
-
I would like to ask the experts to nominate their combinations of parts or additions to complete watches that end up creating a highly convincing good quality value for money Rolex rep. I'm not talking about having to scour the 'bay and VRF for impossibly hard to find gen parts then sending the bits of to half way round the world on numerous occasions to get a bespoke piece created, oh no I'm talking readily available bits that can be purchased easily at reasonable cost and when assembled with little or no modding produce a credible result.
So, come on chaps, get your thinking caps on and make suggestions......

Why don't you think about sending him your watch! He really did magic on nanuq's Tudor, it will look like it should after years of wear and many trips to get polished.. Of course your 6263 is not as old so a more subtle approach would work well.
I've only just got it back. Can't bear to part with it so soon but may do in the future. Who do you mean by "him"?
-
"Polishing wheel"? Care to eleborate?
-
I was wondering if there was a way to smooth out the harsh machined edges of a new DW6263 case (or any other case for that matter)? I am pleased with the one I have but would like to concentrate on the finer details and all those sharp edges are just unacceptable.
-
Some time ago I posed the question - does anybody make a decent rep 6263 non-exotic A7750 dial? The answer - No. Has this changed? (I don't think so).

My tall coronet 703 is fitted to the case with a gen 703 tube and was tested to 5 atm pressure.

Stop what you're doing right now and go onto the Vacheron and Constantin website and design your own watch. It's brilliant. Enjoy.
