I am wondering if someone can help me, but I have read a lot about the vintage watches 1680 and 1665's. I understand the 1665 single red and double red are very rare watches and I thought they cost over $100k or something like that... I recently acquired a MBK 1680 red sub and quite like it, so went on the bay to see if there were any 2nd hand gens for sale. Well, I am no expert but there seems to be some available for sale around the $10k mark? That seems pretty cheap for a vintage... no? Or are those frankens? What do they normally go for? I have my eye on a gen speedmaster pro with solid caseback (same one as leitztozeiss) for sale locally here... will see what they want for it.

no washer or spring as well under the bezel of my MBK1680...

Just took the bezel off and there was nothing under the bezel, just the case... maybe thats why the bezel turns freely...

Will give it a go! Thanks for the tip. Yes... the crown is stamped quite well... although probably for a vintage the stamp shouldn't be so well done. I was actually surprised my MBK came with hollow mid link bracelet and not the usual solid mid link bracelet that come with most MBW?MBK's.

It really is growing on me... but... I am still unsure... I have been wearing it since I got it, and I really like it, despite still having the sharp edges.

Will there be a rush of ppl to order at this CHEAP price? lol...

Just managed to open the caseback with some rubber gloves and took a pic of the movement. Can't seem to keep one hand still taking photos...

Ok... I have one question: Can I use cape cod cloth to polish my steel shaft on my golf clubs? I just took them out of the garage for Spring/Summer and found that rust has formed on the steel shafts! Another question is where to buy them? I am in NZ so availability might be a problem, do they sell them in Aussie? I am wondering maybe they might have them in Bunning's Warehouse here...

Thanks Nanuq! I am contemplating the mods... But rest assured I am definitely not brave enough to nanuq-ize my watch... I still get nightmares about that poor watch (may it rest in peace)... lol!

I am not sure I am brave enough even for that mod! lol.... I am glad I got myself some tools recently though, used my new springbar tool for the first time to take off the bracelet and saw the engraving between the lugs "Original Polex Design 5513"

Got it from MBK BKK. Oh really? Boy I had no idea at all... thanks for the info! I probably look like a fool for asking that now... lol! If I do keep it, I would like to install a gen tropic crystal and gen bezel/crown/tube... will do my budget later and decide. By the way this was a present from my girl!

This is my first ever rep Submariner, second Rolex rep. First was the daytona... anyway, here are some pics: wristshot: To be absolutely honest, I can't tell the difference with all these vintage 1680/1665 watches... All I notice about the watch is, high plexi glass, hollow mid links... and thats about it... The edges of the case and bracelet are a bit sharp when worn on the wrist and probably needs sanding... The bezel rotates quite easily both ways and does not click... I have seen some members post about this and it might just need some adjustment. I am trying to decide whether I should keep it and do some mods to it... so far I quite like it, but I am worried I will scratch the plexi glass with everyday use.

crown is wobbly... you are right! if i pull crown out all the way it sets time ok... tried pulling slightly on the crown in 1st position and winding... and it does! quite a mission though... thanks rob... i guess there is no easy fix i can DIY?
