  1. "It's good they are art pieces, he's got zero chance of mass production"
  2. I am in awe at your patience and ability to deal with such detail...!
  3. Was never into this watch before, but now it is starting to grow on me. Who has the best edition 'Swiss movement' Santos w/SS bracelet...?
  4. "It looks very very pornish to me maybe thats way i have a huge hard on right now!!!" That's because it has those 'nipple' hour markers on the dial...!
  5. I prefer the look of the Nautilus...but apparently the head guy at Patek sports the Aquanaut Up to you...
  6. Take it to a local watch repair guy. I'm sure you are not the first with this problem and he would have done others before.
  7. On my way to the local department store now...Thanks!
  8. Wow...nice job on the buffing. Really gave it an added demension. I don't buff my nails so I don't know anything about buffers. But I am assuming there are 4 different grains/grits/different on each side of the nail buffer. Not wanting to cause unnecessary harm to the bracelet...which courseness did you start with...?
  9. Really interested to see a wrist shot of this watch on a Gnomon Heritage Nato strap, if anybody has made that purchase yet...
  10. I like the polished sides (and thickness) to the 'original' bracelet, which would then match the polished sides to the case.
  11. I just received mine as I was leaving town for a week holiday at the beach (took the wife and daughter and it was great). Just got back into town and have been wearing it the whole time. So far I am kind of neutral in my response. I don't hate it, but I'm not knocked out by it either. All in all it is a decent, solid feeling piece. One thing that does bug me though is my orange stop-watch hand does not quite 'zero-in' at '12'. It will be just slightly almost a 2/10th's of a second fast...then I double click the reset button, and it goes back to just under 1/10 of a second (almost 12)...then the next time I look at it, (all by itself) it's back to 2/10's (off 12). So I just reset it and double click again. I'm doing this throughout the day, because it bothers me to see that little imperfection. Keeps perfect time...has average lume...a hundred dollars...what's not to like, already...? JMB, regarding the clasp...what was the clasp like on the original Monte Carlo...?
  12. Did not know that the DSSD, Yachtmaster, and the DJII were 21mm. Thanks for that.
  13. As an American that has been living and working in Asia for nearly 20 years, my observation of Asian (read: primarily Chinese) culture is that details do not matter. They just want to wip something up as fast as they can, which sort of looks similar, or close enough (to fool 90% of the people)...and get the money (as fast as they can). A desire for perfection, skilled craftsmanship, artistry, pride in your work, are not part of the genetic makeup of this part of the world (anymore). The only exception I can see would be Japan. But the rest of Asia is pretty much a 'quick buck' culture. Western companies that come to this part of the world for cheaper manufactoring, really have to be on top of things just to get their specs and tolerances up to their own standards. But it is a battle all the way. If I had a nickle for every time I had to go back and try to get somebody to get it right...I'd be a gazillionaire...
  14. Just saw this pretty good looking version of the Heritage Nato (on aonther site) http://www.gnomonwatches.com/product-detail.asp?pid=866
  15. Watches sold in Europe have to add 17% - 20% VAT on top of the asking price. I find the US to definately be cheaper than Asia, and I'll bet cheaper than a lot of the Euro Zone. This forum is good for new, nearly new, and recent pieces. I think the US has the best 2nd-hand market. http://www.rolexforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9
  16. Tudor Calibre 2892 Chrono specs (55 jewels/rubies):
  17. I think a lot of the content of the AD 'book' I was given is online at the Tudor website, but here are a few shots. But again, this was an expensive little book to put together with very high quality thick matte finish paper...115 pages. Don't know why they scanned so crudely. Interesting to note that they say that the Tudor Heritage has: "a new calibre for chronographs based on the Tudor 2892." They also have an additional three (3) pages detailing ALL movements, whic look to be all ETA, starting with Tudor Calibre 2671, 2824, 2834, 2892, 7753, 7754.
  18. I as well like the grey one. And when comparing to the original (GEN), the 'brownish' overtones of the dial (I think) give it more of a warmer 'three dimensional feel' to it. Where as the GEN looks very two dimensional (in person). When I stopped in at the AD last week, the sales manager made me leave with this very expensive-looking, full-color, 1/2 inch thick book on the Tudor Watch and it's history. It showed at least 3 different earlier models of the Monte Carlo from the 70's.
  19. The builder I quoted is Dan Foch, owner of OWC (Orange Watch Co.) Australia. Also, I didn't know that the DSSD from Rolex is offered with both bracelts. If that is true, well that says a lot.
  20. I know reps are 'reps', but some of us pay pretty dear for some of our newer upscale reps (trimmed CG's, new date wheels, pressed crystals, additional sealants, real new Swiss movements, etc.) Happen to catch the opinion of a builder I follow occasionally, and it got me thinking about why I WOULD NOT want to buy a CERAMIC ROLEX rep. Here are his (cut & paste) quotes. "Mate, I had been testing a R-style Glide Lock. But it broke after 4 months. Other Sino-GlideLock seems to be the same. I think they come from about 2-3 factories, so they will all be the same. So be wared Sino-glide Lock will not last the distance. Current release will get the proven Flip Lock bracelet with extension." "It is a difficult question and an equally difficult solution. Yes the Glide Lock is an amazing piece of engineering. Yes the Sino-Glide Lock is not up to par. Any bracelet in the “affordable” price range that pretends to be a Glide Lock will have problems. I have also heard from owners of the Real Deal, the Glide Lock is fabulous – like a Ferrari and as expensive to maintain. So this is why Rolex Glide Lock costs and why it offers the standard bracelet and the Glide Lock on the Sea Dweller. My goal is a robust affordable bracelet."
  21. I agree, at that price point it must be either a Seagul or another Shanghai movement.
  22. Yesterday I was coming back from a business lunch at a large hotel in town, and upon departing, happen to see a Rolex AD. I thought I would duck in for a minute, as it had been several years since I had been in one. As I had just last Saturday ordered the Heritage (in Grey) from WatchEden, thought I'd see if they had a Gen...yep, both colors! It is such a great looking watch. One thing I am noticing with the pictures on this post, is that on the GREY dial version, the darker outside perimeter ring with the orange numbers 5-10-15-20...is very BLACK, as black as the bezel. On the photo above is appears lighter in color than the bezel (could be the lighting). The watch retailed for (after 10% discount, and 7% VAT reimbursement for tourists) approximately US$3,813, which I thought was a pretty good price for here in Bangkok. The Rolexes however were much more expensive. Manager told me that they do not display 'sport' model Rolexes because as dealers they have to purchase 7 'datejusts' or 'daydates' before they are allowed to buy a 'sport' model. They had one (1) 'SS Sub C' they kept in a vault, and it was US$9000, no discount. Hoping my WatchEden Heritage makes it through Thai Customs (who can charge anywhere from 100 to 350% on luxury goods...a bottle of wine IS 350%...and this being a developing country, there is no consistancy to the wims of Customs...everyday is different...but the girls here are just soooo gorgeous...!) For what it's worth...
  23. Just to confirm that I am reading this correctly...this 'highly praised' watch is available via WATCH EDEN...(?).
