  1. If the sticky ball or duct tape fails, try on some gardening or dish washing gloves. Hold the watch, face down, with both hands, index fingers on the dial side, thumbs on the back, right hand thumb on the top of the back, left hand thumb on the bottom of the back. Now in a synchronized way, push the top thumb to your left, and the lower thumb to your right. If they slip, apply some more pressure against the index fingers. If it is still slippery you have the wrong type of gloves. They should feel rubbery. If the correct gloves fail because you feel like you will skin your thumb to the bone, try doing the "sticky ball" trick with the inside part of both hands. No scratches or dings to your lovely back..no extra tools to purchase. Maybe your better half will complain if you ruin a pair of gloves, but nothing comes free in this life BTW: The only watch I have failed to open this way is a pam111 that a local "watchsmith" had repeatedly messed with...
  2. Camera: canon 400D Lens: The normal shots are with a sigma 30f1.4. Macros are with a sigma 150f2.8. Post production: Adobe lightroom to develop the raw files. The macro 150f2.8 can do even closer macros, and these are downsized (not croped) versions that contain more detail in the full version. A great lens that I can't do it justice. I've seen some insect macros that are out of this world. Here is an extreme close up of the side of the ceramic bezel. This is a crop from a pic posted earlier. A light tent and better tripod would have helped, but these were sot with web-sized resolution in mind. KR G
  3. Welcome back V PS: Kalws orises file K kai me to kalo to mwro sou.. DaddyV
  4. RESPECT We are lucky to have members like you within our community.
  5. The watch belongs to the president of Panerai USA(Phillipe Bonay) and it was on a loan for the movie. hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&th=527145&mid=1487859&rid=0&rev=&reveal= Shame that the scans have been removed..
  6. You should visit timezone from time to time.. Or better not
  7. You sound like ready for some adventure. Your best bet is not to pop the crystal out but instead work from the inside.. Open the back, remove the stem, remove the movement, clean the crystal, and then reverse the process. Be very careful not to damage anything or leave more marks (prints&dust) than what you came in for.. You will not be able to remove the crystal by removing the bezel. Good luck, and post some pics. If you need any extra help, just ask PS: You might be better off leaving this to someone who has opened a watch before.. Like a local watchsmith. Or try this on a cheaper rep.
  8. Just finished checking and regulating the 3717. It is a 21.6vph version. Funny thing is that it has the elaborate speed setting scale a'la swiss 7750. I have had good experiences with the a7750, regardless of its vph. I have a pam196 that has been beating with no prob for more than 2 years now Maybe a bit more..Time flies. Crossing fingers since this is a gift
  9. sql_pl: They might look nicer because they are wider than the 28k but they are less accurate to the originals. (check the "MON" of the official site photos.. it is closer to your version.) I have to say this is a VERY nice watch and it goes well with a kevlar or croc strap too.
  10. Thank you pubus. I am not that fluent with polish, but I did understand and agree that we should set up a warsaw GTG soon
  11. I got mine from Silix. I didn't get a chance to regulate it and count the vph. Will do so tonight and get back to you with that.
  12. silvio: I got it from Andrew. I had it made to order with the CF dial (prefer it to the standard flat black) and black date wheel. It took a couple of days more to deliver, but it was worth it for me. Jon Fort: Thank you for the tip. I will do it One of the first things I did upon receiving it was tighten / check all screws. Some were loose. Nothing two 1mm screwdrivers can't fix in 2 minutes. tech & all: thank you for your kind words. The HBB is big, sharp, and in layers (!!). It feels flatter and wider than , lets say, an omega PO. Still it is lighter because of its design and the materials used.
  13. M. Here is a macro of the date windows on mine.
  14. Thank you for your compliments M. I got mine from silix. I did set the date to "MON 24" to compare to your. We have different date fonts. The middle part of the letter "M" of the Monday is touching the base.(makes sense or should I take a pic of it? ) And the 24 is filling a wider part of the date window.
  15. Great watch M. Wear it well. Same story. I received one 3717 that I intent to give as a gift to my brother. I think I might order one more for me Here are 3 pics (hope you don't mind )
  16. Thank you to everybody for your wishes and your kind comments on my pics.. I haven't posted any pictures in the past even though photography is one of my hobbies. I am not that good in product photography I had seen some macro photos of the HBB RG PCB in the gen site so I thought I would give them a run for their money
  17. I was thinking of getting the lite version too.. but I was in love with the RG+polished ceramic bezel. Once I saw a (gen) polished bezel, I couldn't resist it. Hey, can't blame a guy in love right? I was browsing timez0ne for classifieds to no avail.. Thank God My HBB RG PC is exactly as I wished (it was custom ordered with CF dial and black date wheel). My precious.
  18. I think you should take your sister to some authorized dealers and try the real thing on.. Make a list of the watches that have already been recommended and stick to trying these on. Don't let her fall in love with a gen that there is not a good rep of. IWC: Have a look at the iwc ingenieur (technical) and 3717(archetype of a chrono). The slevin aquatimer is not released et, and the CD is a bit bigger/sportier. RLX: Air kings, DD, DJ, submariners, daytonas.. no matter what, even if they are original or so darn close to one, she will have to face the occasional stupid/embarrassing question "is it a fake watch?". BRTLNGS: read the guides, there are some very cgood ones. Omega: same as above. The PO is nice, but bigger than the 45.5mm imply. PANERAI: look at all the suggestions. Go for a new moded 111 and get a Good strap. Trust me. Try on as many as she can. Make a short list and come back for the next round
  19. Andrew. First deal with him. All went smooth and it was a refreshing experience after the "one vague email per day" communication I have been facing in a couple of other deals.
  20. Some addtional photos:
  21. The IWC CD 2006 has been dominating my wrist for the past months. This just in.. HBB RG PC, or 301.PB.131.RX Will try to do it justice in a post after work. Off to some meetings now
  22. You can strap it as tight as you wish. You might have to get a shorter strap or punch a few extra holes to your existing one. I'd say, get a good strap, it will make it more comfortable to wear and bring it closer to a gen. Looking at your current collection: after getting used to the 44mm of the PAM, a lot of your watches will fall from "full size" to mid size.. Anything below 40mm will feel small and will get less wrist time. Enjoy your new watch.
  23. 111 is The initiation piece. The polished case/CG/bezel makes it easier to combine with more dress styles. +You will appreciate the 127/217 size & curves better later.
  24. What The Zigmeister said.. No damage is done, a rep friendly watchmaker will have it ready in a few minutes with out any spares needed. You could do it yourself, only if blessed with steady hands and equipped with patience and tools. (I 've done it. It is not that hard) Good luck.
  25. If you have "inherited" the watch shop from your dad, you have less chances to be a WIS than if you started a new watch shop. Funny thing is that I know exactly the same scheme in the other side of the globe compared to Austarlia, in EU. Instead of the Porn stars that you refer to, I would refer to wine tasters and chefs. Most of them are still in love with their area of expertise, but indifferent to low quality products. This is where I would place our dealers. Now, if you talk about the wholesalers/brokers, then yes, for most of them a beautiful Panerai is no different than a cheap music box.
