  1. yuck ... looks like some failed genetic experiment.
  2. If I remember correctly they have a very good A7751, so if that's the movement in this watch, the MP could indeed be working. Cheers, Tim
  3. Yeah, he's on ebay and will print vintage dials, I forgot the name though ... I'll check my bookmarks
  4. Sounds like you might need a service. @Pitter: If your watch has a gen 7750 and doesn't autowind, then it's broken. You could have a 7760 (I think Sinn used those quite a bit)' which is a manual wind movement.
  5. Jesus guys, the deap sea dweller is for sissies and girls ... Now the DSS, that's what a real man would wear on a fishing trip: They even had one of them fancy two-tone versions, for the underwater pimp!
  6. it's lumed. that's why it's so difficult to make the rep accurate. the zigmeister does very good work though ...
  7. unfortunately there is no decent rep of this you could try watcheden for a cheapo, sometimes they're quite nice.
  8. I think the "sharp edges" are a common problem with HBBs. You could try sanding them a bit! Cheers, Tim
  9. When sou say 'go public', do you mean an unbranded version that could be used in low-end gens?
  10. trak-trace.com I'd reckon. The site's not going to make a difference, it depends on what te courier submits to the internet. They all get the same information. Be sure to track country of origin and destination for best results.
  11. Nah, they're reps alright. The gen part stuff is made up by the dealers to sell more of them. Essentially they were made to be sold as gens on the grey market, but they figured they wouldn't hold up, so they sold them to us. This happens once in a while (18k Franck Mullers f.e.), but generally, if they're good enough, why sell them as a rep? (From their point of view) They are extremely nice though and of very high quality, I used to own one the 1500$ Santos.
  12. Now don't get me wrong fellows, I agree 100% that reps (or what we commonly call reps are made in Asia) But, everything is possible and I'm quite certain that replications are also made in Europe. It's even a fact, look at those high grade vintage Panerai reps that are sold for thousamds of Dollars. Whenever there is money to be made, there will surely be someone trying to exploit the market. Vintage watches are so overpriced, it would be stupid (for the criminal mind) not to want a piece of the cake. Take a vintage PP for example, they go for hundreds of thousands im auctions. All you need is a corrupt dial maker (refinisher) and a case maker and your return in investment is 100 - 1000% If I were in that business, I'd want the people that do it around me, even if I'd have to spend 1000$ more. It simply doesn't matter. In that sense, there is definately a counterfeiting market in Europe and also Switzerland. (Just think about Art forgery, they don't have their stuff made in Guangzhou by some fetus sent of to work the minute it was conceived ...) The market is there, we just don't know anything about it and maybe that's for the better! On the other hand the guy with the bet is a [censored] and doesn't have the faintst idea what he's talking about. (Or he is a criminal mastermind trying to reel in investors )
  13. i read about a special solution once, that you could submerge the whole movement in and have the equivalent of a light service. (it would clean the movement i suppose) It was not recommended by specialists if I recall, but it could be cheap and sufficiant for what you need. Unfortunately I don't know any more about it, nor can I remember where I read about it. Cheers, Tim
  14. wow. just wow. mind telling us where you sourced the dial?
  15. you're probably better of with the mark xvi nowadays although i'd prefer a nice xii as well ...
  16. as an idea, maybe the yellow Seawolf? might have a few minute tells, but it had that incredible gen feel to it!
  17. BK WM9 YM? certainly one of the most convincing ... but maybe the bk aspect disqualifies it as oob
  18. I actually think it's really cool! Always had a soft spot for cali dials ...
  19. great pick up! still waiting for me to stumble upon something like that any hallmarks visible?
  20. Thanks for the support! That's the idea about a wiki, anyone can contribute. Maybe I'm being a bit optimistic here, but if everyone just jotted down something he knew (which really isn't much effort), or corrected something wrong, we'd have a nice, up to date compendium. Why don't you give it a try?
  21. The other day I posted a thread about opening a wiki for the rep community. I think it's one of the things the community's really lacking and it'll make life a lot easier for Noobs and Veterans alike. (It could mean an end to hours of searching and hundreds of frustrating dead links.) I did not get a lot of response, but I took the initiative anyway and started this little experiment: www.repwiki.info I have made a few entries already and will continue doing so for a while. I'd be glad if some of you took the time to share a bit of knowledge and write a little article. The more, the merrier. Also, if someone thinks this is a genuinely good idea and would like to volunteer as a Moderator, please shoot me a PM. A member was concerned about revealing too much information to the public and while I absolutely disagree with keeping information from anyone, in some cases I admit it makes sense (trusted dealers list, etc.). Therefore I have chosen Mindtouch as a platform, meaning certain pages can be hidden from the public and made available only to forum users. Please let me hear some feedback. Cheers, Tim
  22. Well, certain Wiki scripts have the ability to password protect certain articles. Possibly one could allow "trusted" information to be seen only by registered users, who have agreed to these rules. One could take it even further and make the registration link only visible from within the forums, meaning everyone can see information, but trusted details can only be seen by those who have visited the forums before. Public information should be the list of scam dealers for example.
  23. Well, should it really proove itself problematic (which I still don't think), one could always password protect it and hand out the details to registered forum members!
  24. I agree, maintenance is important, but I think it should be worth another try. The community has changed (I suppose) from a few years back and I believe a lot of people here would be willing to contribute a little, to keep it going!
