  1. Great to see it finally arrived! Enjoyed the review and assessment. :-)
  2. Looking forward to that review :-) Could you do me a favour and measure the height of the bridge on the cg - distance from underside of the bridge to the case face below the crown/tube? Many thanks.
  3. You need to take into account that the F and G series watches have a different dial - the L-SM-L position is different. For me the dial is more important that lug differences- who knows about lugs anyhow - unless you really careto do the excellent analysis that you have undertaken. See the G series pics above in this thread and the F serial gen pics below.
  4. Yep - looks like an issue they resolved on the F series of 500 watches ?
  5. OP very nice, gonna get one soon. Cant believe Andy has not got his yet, its been so long coming :-)
  6. Superb review P, many thanks. Is that grey strap the rep leather it was supplied with? Also looks really nice.
  7. So the million dollar question remains - what is the dial? Very fine looking piece.
  8. Yep, the case on this is all Ti, like the Gen
  9. @N We get 6 inches of snow here in the UK and the whole country shuts down Enjoy your break and take plenty of sun screen........................
  10. E do you have a link to the best Clark insert for a modern Sub? (BK TW model)? Thanks anyone.....
  11. Now you're just showing off........................with all that wet and cold stuff!
  12. Awesome stuff Freddy - read all the links across several threads. Seems quite strange reading your threads from in those early formative years and Avitts' input and others - we all start somewhere with these builds. You guys made it soooo easy for us all
  13. Thanks Freddy / Nanuq - great inspiration there! now off to find a tutorial on the helium valve upgrade..............................if anyone has a link, please chime in.
  14. Is the Sean case what BK offers in his BK TW sub - or is that different again? Super build fidhle007 - what a build spec
  15. Why do you need to track anything anyhow - never quite understood the need????? Its shipped, its on its way, its in the hand of the Postal Gods, it lands when it lands! If it don't arrive its nicked or lost or ???? It's just a great marketing ploy to treble the price - it ships in the same bag, in the same plane etc........ Signature on arrival is worth paying for - tracking = nope!
  16. Freddy, the gen pic I posted was to depict the helium valve! The mbw version is a real tell. Yours looks stunning, I will have to get to work on mine again. The case can certainly take more wear and tear. Just a faded insert would also add character. :-)
  17. Waited more than 5 weeks for a Canada express shipment to the UK last year. That was the expedited, tracked service. Status only changed when it landed in the UK port - I understand it travels by ship and not plane???? Had regular Canada post shipments in 7-10 days.
  18. This is the pair of watches that I have used - 1979 Gen Snowy and Rep 1978 Rep 1665...
  19. Thanks freddy, much appreciated :-) I still feel the watch is a little too new looking and unworn? I expect I will gently age and soften it more, to match the crown vintage. The service insert has no age obviously. I am not sure when this insert was first available. If they are some years old as original equipment, I could add some patina perhaps? Alternatively, I can leave it all as is? Allsuggestions and guidance most welcome :-)
  20. My Franken MBW 1665 GWSD has been a long time favourite of mine and gets a lot of wrist time for both business and pleasure. A couple of months back I installed a used vintage wrapped 703 to replace the Gen modern 704 monoblock crown. The watch has always had a 'watch queen' look - intended as a serviced, minty piece, from 1978. Fitted with rare, late service Luminova T dial, modern service insert and 704 crown. As I own two Gen Rolex pieces from the late 1970's, I thought that I best start to get the case shape and condition better reflecting a piece of this age. I have collected many pictures and used my '79 Sub as a benchmark for 'softness' and finish. I am delighted with the progress, as this really matches the look and feel of my 1979 'Snowflake' Submariner (essentially a 1680 Oyster case set). I have reworked the case, chamfering the lugs, then softening back and polishing. The lug holes have been modded and the CGs reworked. The whole feel is just that more credible now. Still more to do...................but here she is for now in a few quick BB Curve shots.
  21. Nice progress - worthy of a gen crown me thinks?
