  1. Another successful fishing trip to the bay.... got this yesterday - spent a little time cleanin'&greasin' and it looks and performs like new...
  2. I think we've had a couple of very good ideas presented here and my feeling is - were getting closer to solutions: Newbies should get limited-time full acces to most of the board - except PM and the trading areas (Dealer / Member), maybe - and after the expiration of the trial-period (time based or login-based) they either need to pay or leave. A popup could do the trick "PAY <-> PAW" Access to trading areas requires payment of a basic fee - which will give you limited time access. For full time access, it'll be a little more. While I believe in the free flow of information on the net I also pay for services that I really need and use (webspace, ebay, paypal). The trick however is - as long as you get if for free, you will not think about paying for it.
  3. Thanks for the great post By-tor and congratulations on a truly beautiful watch. On a sidenote - I think the Tudors are widely underrated - they are very good watches sharing a lot of the Rolex design & technology (Oystercase, Triplock Crown....) but they have a much better value4money ratio. The way Rolex is planing to position Tudor in the future, some of that might change...but that is a different story. I have a gen Tudor Chrono (Ref 79280) with oyster wristband in my collection and it is a great watch. Comfy to wear, keeps excellent time, waterproof, rugged and beautiful.
  4. Chapeau, Bill! ... I love your watchcase...very classy display... (PS: don't forget to take your pills... )
  5. this is a phantastic post.... all these beautiful straps... guys, I'm nowhere near in both PAMS and straps but if this doesn't wet people's appetite on PAMS, nothing will... I change the straps on all my watches on a regular basis and I find it amazing how a watch completely changes in style when you change the strap
  6. Sql - that's a cool post. It does what I admire the most about the net... gives you a peek at how people in other parts of the world live.......and - I can assure you, your Daytona won't be riding any slower in the future...
  7. I heard it here in Europe on the radio on my way home from the office. They said it's on CNN. The Thai head honcho wanted to finish his speach at the UN and then head home pronto... there goes my Thai vacation...
  8. Ever since the beginning of this year, I took quite some time both on TRC and RWG to read and search for my particular areas of interest in the rep game. I've read great posts, informative, revealing, funny and interesting...but you have to be willing to spend some time ... which is the one thing that seems to become a rare commodity... I think it is a general problem that people throw a question out in the open without investing a little time to see if it has been answered before. This does not only apply to this forum but to basically all others on the net as well. The bottom line: if you're an expert in any area, you have to be prepared to answer the same questions over and over again.... sad, but o.. so true
  9. Yo gioarmani....could you please repeat the watch part... I wasn't focused.... Lucky fella... and by the way, the watch is very nice.
  10. I bought my Philips Plasma two years ago and went through the same growing pains... In essence, there is no one-size-fits-all solution and at the end the only important factor is you, your budget and your personal taste. Everybody will recomend the stuff they bought - which might or might not be good for you. My recomendation is to trust your own eyes... check your budget and compare plasmas and lcds at your local superstore with your own eyes. YOU have to both like the looks and the picture of your new big-size tv. Once you've found the one you want - check the net to find the best price or (if that's what you prefer) buy it where you get the best service. If you watch a lot of TV, look at how the quality of the tuner signal looks on the TV of your choice. While most quality tvs (Plasma & LCD) look good with a DVD signal, some of them look shitty when it comes to an antenna signal (which most people watch 80% of the time). At least in Europe, when it comes to similar picture quality, LCDs still tend to be more expensive than plasmas. Life expectancy is not an issue because plasmas will last longer than you keep your average TV (>17 years of standard viewing). At the moment, HD capaility is more of a marketing issue. Whether it will be essential for you in 18 months, is again, a question of personal taste which only you can answer. If you decide to sell it in a couple of years, it might be a relevant feature - but who knows...
  11. In professional sports there is definitely no room for nice guys and fair play is a great concept - in theory... to compete and win on that level - you have to be prepared to take any advantage you can get - don't get me wrong - I'm not advocating this... but it is a reality - like it, or not. So, at the end of the day, there might be very few athletes who are allowed to enjoy your hospitality... Concerning Schumacher... without being a certified Schumi Fan - this guy has won seven World Championship titles, two more than Juan Manuel Fangio, the next best in the total history of his sport, has broken almost every other record in F1, has helped to turn a chaotic Italian F1 team into a four time world champion.... if that earns him anything, it's my respect.
  12. That looks very nice. Congratulations. The markers dont look like they've been repainted by hand (which I think is important ;-) A couple of days ago I bought two bottles of nightcolor to do just the same thing... your post is motivating... Bye the way... the shop where I bought the nightcolor had to go through about ten bottles until he found two that weren't dry. Apparently this stuff dries out easily and once it has, it is rock-solid and there is no way to undo that. So check it regularily and add a little water (it is thinned with water!) if necessary.
  13. Chris... you're right. Can't be replaced. That's the only downside for me. The two big screws (where the wristband starts) are 4 decoration only. You can detach the wristband at the first small screw.
  14. ... there you go... it's not the nicest shot, that's why I didn't post it first...
  15. Hi Chief... I promised pictures and here they are: I also did a small side-by-side with my 111h for size comparison. The wristband can be easily shortened - the screws are funtional. I said it before and I'll say it again - this watch is solid and massive. I am wearing a DRSD with a rivetted band today and the wristband of the Abyss weighs more than the whole Rolex. Heavy Metal... but I love it...
  16. - Done - and I told ajoesmith already on TRC that his Avatar is distracting me from work.... My preferences so far were with tall blond women... maybe it's time to rethink...
  17. Well, I have one and I love it. You have to actually touch it to get a feel for this watch. Photos don’t do the trick. @chieftang – if you say it looks like a rep – you need to see it in reality. It's big, it's heavy and it is very well crafted. I own a lot of watches, mostly gens, including several Breitling, Tudor and Longines so I have the possibility to compare. The Abyss is really classy. The case is engraved on the side. The back is see-through. The movement is an ETA. The bezel is very solid. The wristband is certainly different from most other watches – I like it but to me it is also the only downside of the watch, as you can’t change it to leather. This big, heavy divers watch (1000 ft), has a very macho aura and it is the only one I can switch to from any of my PAM without getting a funny feeling (...hey.. I think I forgot my watch... feels so light.) I'm at work right now, but tonight, if I find the time, maybe I could post a couple of pix... It is definitely a watch that polarizes... you either like it or not. That works for me. Who really needs one-size-fits-all average crap?
  18. There are always people who give without asking for something in return and there are others who will even criticize a freebee. I thank God for people like Admin (and for that matter all the other heavy contributors here on RWG and TRC) who give to the community... Most people who buy a rep with knowledge taken from RWG / TRC spend more money on (let's just spell this out) "fake watches" in a few weeks than even a one-year subscription would cost them...and let's not speak about the money they save because they're not being ripped off on Canal Street. So, after some time on TRC and my first couple of nice watches from members and dealers I’ve met there, here's my little token of appreciation... Danke, Admin I’m looking forward to the next year…
