  1. I personally don't like the looks of the Emergency.... it always reminds me of the hunchback of Notre-Dame... (...the unshapely sender unit, that is...)
  2. I own a few gen Breitlings, among them a B1. Originally on a blue dial, it went for service one year ago and on the occasion, I changed the dial to black. It is one of my favourite watches. A true tool watch and even though it's a quartz movement and that generally is a downer in the eyes of watch afficionados, I just love it. Two time zones, countdown timer, day, date, stopwatch, laptime, waterproof etc... On the other hand, Breitling is a brand that does not do so well in terms of being collectible. You will hardly find a Breitling that sells for more than it's original sticker price (like a Daytona) or that becomes a sought after classic with ridiculous prices (like a DRSD). Having said that: if you look for a watch that will increase in value, I would not recommend a B1. If you look for just a great gen watch and like the looks of it... go for it. my baby...
  3. I think lovepanerai put it best: it depends on your preference between shiny polished steel and brushed titanium.... other than that (xcept the weight), both watches are very similar. ...but when you start collecting anything - especially watches - you can never go wrong with a classic...
  4. Thank God this is limited.... that crown alone is so sharp, it's bound to kill someone someday...
  5. ....well, here's someone's chance to show real personal greatness in any case, judging from the views and responses, you've adressed an issue of great interest for this community which means, you qualify for my "virtual" POM
  6. The only thing I don't like about this threat is that with over 6.400 views, Puggy is heading for yet another POM.... At the risk of repeating what has been said by others before - Here on the forum dealers should be honest about what's in their watches (and what not). It doesn't neccesarily mean they would sell less here. While I appreciate the looks of a decorated swiss 6497, I also don't mind the butt-ugly J21 in my Noobmariner.... because, it is reliable, keeps excellent time and helps to make the watch dirt-cheap. Unless you belong to the group of reppies who open and work on their watches, you might never get to see the "engine" of your B&S, Ralex or OMG. The issue is: as long as you know what you're getting, it's your descision... There is another side to this however - here on the forum (and on the others) the dealers are facing a large crowd of educated customers and a bunch of noobs, all with tons of research information on their hands and the forums provide us with a tool to share our positive and negative experience... I would rate it dangerous to screw this crowd because news travels fast and you risk being publicly denounced. People who buy from outside these forums, by way of b2c sites on the net - that's a different story. I would think it is unrealistic to expect sellers who deal in illegal counterfeit goods to show a level of honesty describing their goods which is sometimes not even used in legitimate advertising. I'm not defending this but I'm afraid it's a reality...
  7. ....the PAMSTER's back in town..... (Thin Lizzy playin' in the background....)
  8. I'm 100% sure this is how it happened.... very cool little video EA!
  9. I've been wearing this for some time now... It is a band and case from a fellow member's project watch, which I bought last year. The ETA movement that came with it had a problem with the keyless works and so I fittet a cheapo J21 with dial from an old retired GMT II rep. The J21 is ugly as hell, the hands are not correct, I've seen much better dialprint but it keeps great time, better than many of my ETA's. I meanwhile fixed the keyless on the 2836-2 ETA (tks to rbj69 and Bazz for their great tutorials & pix) and that movement plus the very good dial that came with it will go into another nice case I have...
  10. My biggest rip-off was indeed a pretty big one.... It all happed some 22 years ago when I was living in New York. That year, I bought a number of watches from various sources.... a gen 1680 red letter for a meager 400 $ in a Chinatown pawn-shop (It was serviced by Rolex three years later and got their stamp of approval... and unfortunately was traded for another watch ten years ago ) ... and I bought a used 18k Baume Mercier from a jeweler on 5th avenue. The watch was beautiful... gold bracelet, gold case, white dial with black roman numerals, date.... it was stunning - at least I thought so at the time.... I received a written appraisal from the jewelers.... and paid 3.000$ for the watch. About two years later, I decided to send it in to Baume Mercier for service. I took it to Wempe ... a famous German AD. They took the watch and sent it to BM for service. A couple of weeks later, I receive a package from Baume Mercier with my watch and a letter.... "Dear Mr. Chubbchubb, the only reason why we are returning this fake watch to you is the fact that both case and bracelet are genuine 18k gold. The case, the bracelet, the movement and dial are fake. None of these parts have been manufactured by Baume Mercier." With best regards" Oooops..... Update... I still have the appraisal and the letter from BM....the watch - together with a few others - was stolen from my house some 10 years ago...
  11. if I remember right, Sql_pl used to have one of these and sold it on TRC a while back... shoot him a pm
  12. I agree... it is a whole different story when you fly in from the rep capitals of this world...
  13. I recently traveled from Europe to the US and back...and I always carry at least four to five watches in my carry-on luggage when I travel... I guess when you don't worry...don't look worried....don't act worried... when it's just the most normal thing in the world... then most likely, nothing will happen. On the other hand, I saw a nice display with confiscated fake watches and an accompanying customs text at the Munich airport some moths ago.... got me thinking....for a minute….
  14. @crystalcranium.... let me help you out here - Me too I'm a 3 with 2 potential. I just changed my watch 30 minutes ago (I have a replacement watch in a bag with me in the office).... Too many watches .... too little time.... not enough wrists....
  15. I have a couple of quartz clocks around the house that sync with real time.... so I always set my watches (rep or gen) prior to wearing them... I used to be pretty anal about the prescision of my watches.... I guess I'm getting older and wiser....
  16. what an amazing story..... It just proves (again) .... never judge a book by it's cover... cool dude
  17. @rolli.... I would take at least one pair....maybe more, depending on the price
  18. This has not left my wrist since the weekend (when I finally fitted my Palp crown). This is the first PAM rep I ever bought (on IOFF...) many moons ago... still love it
  19. The PVD Chrono with orange is there already http://www.trustytime.com/index.php?main_p...roducts_id=1092 I think this watch looks awesome.... thank god I have a rather large wrist at 7.8" ... I just don't understand why they put this little silver circle around the date window.... it's not on the gen and on the rep dial they had to do it on purpose....what purpose? By the way.... go to the Bell&Ross website and look under "Goodies" - they have what I feel is the coolest watch screensaver... the orange PVD Chrono is running on my machine since three weeks...
  20. That's a very nice watch.... I love sports watches: scuba, chrono et al - I also like Seiko. They build a large variety of great watches, sometimes even innovative (like the Kinetic system) but 95% for a fairly affordable price. Pug - say bonjour to your blue cousin....this is my Seiko Blue Monster.... a Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Pipin Ferreras Kinetic Titanium 200m diver (SBDW015) with a GMT movement (whow...that's a loooooooooooooooong name).
