No doubt, there is a wind of change blowing through the forums lately... let's see what "White Lies No.3" kicks off (sorry Edge... no meant to degrade your bold post in any way!)
The biggest problem for me so far was the lack of contribution by the dealers (in question) on these threads. It was not like they were really defending their positions or giving truthful explanations of what's happening.
I agree with Andreww on that one... Rolexman's picture is not straight compared to his reference line. I did the same thing and rotated the picture about 1.5
to the best of my knowledge, the gen Malte "Grande Classique" looks a bit different (second @ 6, dial, bezel). Check the Vacheron website. The rep is still a very nice watch and the chances of running into a Vacheron WIS are much, much less than with the usual rep suspects (Rolx, Omg, Pan)
I remember a couple of years ago, my wife totalled our Ford Explorer in a crash. She was preagnant then... I didn't think one second about the car... not when she told me... not weeks after...
Monty... that's a very nice watch and.... a great way to loose your "virginity"... welcome to the club...
This Lange is a very classy watch and the chances of bumping into anyone who knows the real deal are zilch as Lange is definitely not for the masses...
Sorry to burst your bubble...but this is not really a very good rep... that movement is a very cheap chinese one, commonly found in lower-end reps. To buy a similar new movement will cost you appr. 12 $ with a stem. http://cousinsuk.com/default.aspx?disp=pro...roductid=462411 - Ofrei in the US also carries something like this.
Having said that - to get a tube, crown and stem for this - apparently "cheap" rep, and then have all that installed by a pro (which you say you're not) is not really worth the effort, since this level reps are available for 60 to 90$ new. Have a look at the "links" section, check out what the dealers here on the board are offering - get a new one.
Mine is in the great looking paperweight league..... Unless you can loose 300$ without feeling pain, there's a lot of beautiful reps with much less issues around...
Holy macceroni... anybody watch this (aside from our friend from the pole)? I have driven and am driving fast cars and bikes but that is a whole different universe (wanted to say "league" but felt it does not fit...)
Nanuq - thanks for sharing...
YEP.... sweet!
How would you rate the bracelet (from memory)? I have a gen tt 1462 Navitimer and I have thought about switching from leather to a metal band ( ). The gen Breitling tt is ridiculously expensive .... I think they ask almost 1K € for the bracelet. So I thought about getting a rep one...
I suggest starting with By-tor's excellent reference post on the GMTII...

search function is a useful tool too...
Sharkskin itself should be... (what a revalation ) the rest probably depends on the way the strap is made. Sometimes the sharkskin is combined with leather on the inside sometimes the strap is sharkskin inside and outside. It also depends what is used to "pad" the strap, because water can enter through the holes of the stitching...
I personally have a couple of sharkskin straps and would never deliberately take them for a dive. For that purpose, I use rubber or SS bracelets/straps. They are of course less affected by occasional water (washing hands / car etc)
