  1. I think you need a more correct handset, but that is a killer GMT. Well done. Makes me wish I had worn my '42 today, but I am messing around with soldering irons, small tools & my ipod's innards & do not want to risk scratching a rare crystal. So I am wearing my Swatch for a bit of color -
  2. The non- works, but the standard cleaner is better. CRC makes both. The green can's non-chlorinated, but the red can is the good stuff - Brakleen red
  3. Wearing the Sub this weekendd -
  4. Combine this with the coming replacement of physical currency with DUSDs (digital US dollars) & 1984's Big Brother is no longer just your big brother, he is your parent, controlling what you can/cannot buy, do & say. At some point, I fear the people may be forced to remind mommy who the boss is & she will not be willing to give up power peacefully.
  5. Acetone leaves a residue, which is why I would not use it on watch parts. I often use brake cleaner, which available from every auto parts store, when I run out of the appropriate watch cleaning solution. On non painted steel, it works great, leaves the part squeaky clean & leaves no residue.
  6. A couple of thoughts - As long as the text between the lugs & inside the caseback are engraved/stamped (as opposed to laser etched or similar), I would not be able to conclusively say a case or caseback is gen. It has been 30+ years since the last time I saw a NOS gen case or dial for sale. Do the math.
  7. Best way to find out is to email each of the TDs & ask. To avoid misunderstandings, I would either include a good, clear pic of the model you want &/or ask them to send you a good, clear pic of the model they have for sale. Happy hunting.
  8. I have always loved those dials & came close to purchasing 1 on TZ in the late 1990s. But, unfortunately, Rolex generally fit them to yellow gold cases, which do not look good on me, so I never pulled the trigger. If you can wear yellow gold you should definitely fit that dial into a case, preferably (but not mandatorily) gen-powered. After decades of collecting, there are very few DJs that still turn my head, but those with malachite dials are 1 of them.
  9. I think you are right. As for the watch, they are truly rare as I have only ever seen 1 other "Mystery" DJ in the wild --
  10. No, it was definitely Rolex and they were loudly criticized at the time.
  11. Hi Flex The time period I'm referring to preceded the Tiananmen Square protests. Probably 1970s or, possibly, early 1980s.
  12. I would call it a franken. Many of the old-timers here produced similar watches back in the day. But these were mostly done because a specific model had either not yet been repped or was not widely available. Nice GMT by the way.
  13. In honor of the new year, I dragged out this old thing --
  14. Gentlemen, there is some very heavy metal on this page. Wearing Pingo, my current beater --
  15. I cannot guarantee they are "the best", but I have purchased multiple NATO straps from Nato-International, all of which have held up well for the past few years, including my current beater. Though I generally try to stay well above the waterline.
  16. Great story & even greater clock & watch. I still remember when they were for sale new. You might appreciate this -- https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/bulova-clock-pan-am-airline-public-1859408540
