  1. I am sure there were some who felt that, but the principle reason so many 62xx Daytonas sat in dealers' cases gathering dust was the fact that they were manual-wind (& an expensive manual-wind) watch at a time when other (7750-powered) chronos were hitting the market for 1/4 the price of the Daytona & they were automatic with an optional date feature, to boot. For the past 4-5 years, just about every men's fashion magazine has been recommending classicly-sized watches. This example from Gentleman's Quarterly magazine (GQ) 2.5 years ago, but you will get the same recommendations from Esquire & Ralph Lauren, etc
  2. So far, so good & the red date looks cool, but I would nix the roulette date wheel since the gen watch's dates are all black.
  3. If the Deepsea is too small for you, I think you are out of luck as far as Rolex goes. p.s. The era of the big watch ended some time ago. I believe the current (fashion) trend is towards small, thin 3-hand watches. (Of course, classic Rolexes, in the 34-38mm range, are always in style.)
  4. In most cases, a gen 5.3mm will fit. However, due to the lack of QC, there is no guarantees when it comes to reps. The bottom line is that the only way to know for sure is to try it.
  5. Yuki has apparently updated (or replaced) his bezel, because the 1 I reviewed had no space between 'UNITSPER', which, for me, completely disqualified it While the current bezel looks correct (the printing quality looks better in the pic, but I would have to see 1 in person to make a final judgement) Overall, the bezel that is currently shown on Yuki's site appears to be a significant improvement over his old bezel & most of the other aftermarket components I have seen (including DW's). I plan to order at least 1 for my '41 & will review it against the previous Yuki offering once I receive it. Now, if the factory would only flatten the top of the 4.
  6. Actually, I think I may have just found a rep 7835/257 here. It seems to contain some of the same issues that ID rep 7206s from their gen counterparts. Any Daytona mavens care to comment?
  7. I am sure there are 19mm folded link & rivet rep bracelets floating around, but none, that I am aware of, have made it to our favorite sellers listings yet. But, seeing how popular the rep 20mm rivets are, I am sure it is only a matter of time. Yuki sells a solid link 19mm 78350/557 for a very reasonable price that I think will fit a 62xx Daytona (I only use gen 7835/357s on mine, so I cannot guarantee the fit) Alternatively, here is a decent gen 7835/357 for a good price from a reliable seller.
  8. If you have the tools & are comfortable removing the caseback, check to see if the pusher is contacting the start/stop chrono lever. Sometimes, the pusher's internals can come unscrewed, which leaves it unable to depress the lever. Other than that, it sounds like you may need to return the watch to your watchmaker (or Ziggy) for repair.
  9. Yes, on both accounts. In fact, the only obvious issue with Yuki's (& most aftermarkets) are the pointed 4s. The 4s on the (non-service) gens had flat-tops
  10. Yup. All gen except for the mid-case (old MBW), superdome (Clarks) & dial
  11. Looks great. 1 thing you might consider upgrading is the bezel/insert, which contains an incorrectly-spaced 1-1-0. Yuki sells a much better replacement
  12. Not sure how to rate it? It looks like a rep. If you really want to attempt to wear it, I would replace the dial & handset with gens &, as you said, swap the bracelet for a good quality strap with a Rolex clasp. Although I cannot see it very well, based on what I can see, you should probably replace the crown/tube with gens as well.
  13. Hands are aftermarket, but the rest looks good. Keep dreaming & good luck.
  14. The 5513 is powered by either the 1520 (19.8kbph) or 1530 (18.0kbph), neither of which hacks (a feature that causes the second hand to stop when the stem is pulled out into the time-setting position) or has a quick-set date function (which allows you to change the date separately from time-setting). There are minor variations between gen dials & no aftermarket dial is an exact match with any of them. So you need to research the gen options & choose whichever aftermarket parts contain the least objectionable sins (to you) (1964 vintage gen with gilt/gloss dial) Bracelet/end links - 7206/80 6636/80 9315/280 or 380 93150/580 7mm crowns - 24-700 24-701 24-702 24-703 Plexiglas crystal - Tropic 19
  15. Ending the work week wearing my Daytona beater
  16. The 5517 uses a Tropic 19, but I am not familiar with the case so others will need to provide those answers. In most cases, however, a gen tube/crown can be retrofit with little or no problem.
  17. Ditto Nanuq. I would add that while a plexi xtal can scratch, most scratches can easily be buffed out. Also, sapphire is a fingerprint/grease magnet while you will rarely see any muck on plexi.
  18. Yes & yes.
  19. Still wearing the '41 today
  20. Good point, but not an issue with the Acetimers, which are also silent as well.
  21. Wore my 'Graph today But just switched to my '41 on the way out to dinner
  22. No. I filter sinks & showers. Ideally, all incoming water should flow through a central reverse osmosis/UV filtration system, but since the problem, as I see it, is not severe, I am not sure that is cost-effective. But if you can rationalize the costs, a centralized system certainly would not hurt.
