  1. Unfortunately, the only way to get a good vintage Sub is to make 1 I know of no pre-assembled reps that do not contain numerous & glaring mistakes (yours is a prime example). Remember, too, that these early Subs had very low-profile (thin) cases & most reps use standard (thicker) Sub cases. You can get a general idea whether it is in the ball park by viewing your watch from the crown side. From this angle, the edges of the crown should extend beyond the top & bottom perimeters of the case (this, however, assumes that your rep was fitted with the correct 6mm crown & not a modern 7mm) (This is a GMT, but the case dimensions relative to the crown are similar to an early Sub) And if you do decide to try to improve the dial, you should also replace both the bezel & bezel insert, as both are wrong for an early Sub. I would also lose the bracelet (if it does not disintegrate in your hands 1st).
  2. Nice toy. How about a pic?
  3. The pusher could be damaged/defective. But, most likely, it just needs to be overhauled (cleaned & lubed). This is a very simple procedure (for a watchmaker), so you might peruse your local phone book for a rep-friendly watchmaker (I would phone & ask if they work on replica watches before making the trip). No.
  4. Started the work week with my usual
  5. You need to be specific as to what is stuck - the watch or the pusher or both? In either case, at the very least, you will need to remove the caseback to see how the pusher components are functioning. Once the caseback is removed, you should be able to localize the problem.

  7. Sunday evening
  8. While constructing/modding IS half of the fun, I am willing to admit that the other half of the fun (for me at least) is being able to wear a watch that walks & talks like a gen even though I had a part in making it myself.
  9. Wearing my usual on this drab & colorless Sunday

  11. Back to my daily beater for Saturday And happy 4th
  12. Sorry, but I was not inferring - explicitly or implicitly - that it looks like a DW.
  13. No, which is why I wrote 'similarly' (as opposed to the same).
  14. This sad wretch looks like the Rosetta Stone of nearly all of the problems that typically plague reps. It is really a crap-shoot out there, guys. And if ever there was a good reason to buy even the simplest of watchmakers' tools (so you can at least remove the caseback), this is it. Though, to be fair, I have seen similarly nasty stuff (though not to this degree) inside a couple of Phong's expensive franken-tonas.
  15. In addition to whatever evidence the Admins/Mods may have gathered here, his posts to TZ & other gen fora suggested as much.
  16. I cannot tell you about Pan upgrades (I no longer own any Pans - pocket watches with straps are not my style), but, in general, while you are correct that the average taxpayer will not know the difference, it is not a good idea to take a rep watch to a gen dealer for repair. Most likely, they will (know the difference).
  17. A Mysterious Saturday night
  18. As far as I can tell, all 3 use the same case. The differences are in the ancillary parts & assembly quality (or lack thereof), which varies considerably (with each leaving alot of room for improvement/correction).
  19. Paranoid? Yes. But even paranoids get followed.
  20. I think what you have done looks very good. You might try Nanuq's trick of putting the watch case (remove the movement 1st) into a can full of coins & give it a good 5-minute shake. The coins should do a good job of aging the case & bracelet. Beyond that, I think the watch has too many irreconcilable issues to make it worth putting much more effort into.
  21. Ditto all of the above. Great work as usual, Ziggy.
