Possibility 1 - The movement in the GMT may need more turns/day than the Sub. Did you manually wind it 40 turns before putting it on the winder? If not, do so. Possibility 2 - The GMT may need service.

Expanding on Alligoat's recommendation, my 1st choice would be an all-steel, silver dialed Datejust with fluted bezel & plain bar markers - the classic Rolex Or a basic black-dialed Explorer A plain-Jane Rolex gets the point across without screaming it (which makes it less likely that your rep will be ID'd).

Interesting & I have no specific knowledge of damage such movement will cause, but I think the more gentle circular calisthenics that standard winders put your watch through may be better for it over the long run.

I could have sworn that I commented on this when it was originally posted, but it is a truly outstanding piece of work.

Even though I have been down the same road once or twice, watching someone else build 1 of these is always alot of fun. I cannot wait until you post part 2.

Boy, do I need to get a better camera/lens. Those are some extraordinary pics, Zig. I see what you mean about the hairspring & overall condition. The watch I had here was in slightly worse condition, but at least the balance & cock were functionally correct. Pretty sad considering what Phong charges for his watches......all of them. And you may recall that my real worry was that he was selling modded V72 Asian clones (new movements made in China). Clearly, that is not the case. At least, not here. Like the saying goes, if you want it done right....... And I see that Avitt is viewing the thread, so I would love to get his take on this.

Auto - Any chance you have a service (as opposed to parts) manual covering the 1030 series (including the 1036-GMT)? Or, at least, an oiling chart for same?

There may be a few members who have an unused Watchmeister overlay (these were produced a year or so ago), but I have never seen a silver overlay with flat-top 3s. Try posting a WTB (want to buy) message in the Sale forum.

All the usual spammer warnings aside, anyone considering doing business with Idolreplicas (or any of there numerous other alias sites, which are too numerous to name) should read this 1st.

Ziggy - I have only personally worked on (as opposed to looked at) 1 of Phong's Daytona frankens, so I am certainly not an authority on them. I do not recall seeing any unusual solder in or around the balance, but the overall condition of the movement & inner case, when it arrived, was similar to the watch you reported on (very dirty). The movement was signed '727' below its Microstella balance & ran at the correct 21.6bph (the previous Rolex-modified V72B & 722 ran at 18bph). The watch I had here was definitely not the pristine (new?) looking model that I have seen displayed online. In addition to having a different pillar plate, there are also 15-20 other components that differ between the previous 722 & later 727 movements. I have a parts list here if you need it.

I would guess it is gen, but if you want a more reliable appraisal you will need to post some good, clear macro (close-up) pics of the movement & engravings between both sets of lugs.

This 1 is a few years old & was purchased from a seller who is no longer in business, but, other than the date window being slightly smaller, it is quite an accurate copy of the gen Grande Arkade

It is useful if you do not want to wind & reset a stopped watch. In answer to your next question - a good watch winder will not damage your watch.

Lani - I agree that people have become much more course in recent years (since about the mid-1960s). But the online world, I believe, is simply a reflection of what we, as a society, have become in the real world. On the other hand, Political Correctness has run amok, turning a bad joke into 'hate speech'. Tolerance, on both sides, as well as a simple adherence to the old Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them done unto you), would go a long way to righting alot of today's wrongs.
