  1. I would keep 1, 3, 5, 7 & whichever other 2 you feel the most attached to.
  2. Silix. Why?
  3. I still feel that the only real give-away is the rep's narrower index markers. And, even that, without seeing it next to a gen, is a tough call, at best. Yes, the cyclops is not ARd & there are other subtle differences (you cannot have an exact copy of a several grand gen for a few hundred dollars), but only that small, knowledgeable group of WISs will get that (most gen owners know NOTHING). When viewed from the distance of an arm's length away (my benchmark for success), the chs GMTIIC is a legend in its own time & for good reason. Thanks for the post.
  4. No one sells a perfectly accurate rep of any watch. Every rep contains a number of mistakes/inaccuracies or whatever you want to call deviations from the original design. At the same time, every owner has a different set of sensitivities that make the rep that is best for Joe the worst for Frank. Your best bet is to research the gen model you want & then search the offerings from each collector to find the 1 whose errors offend you the least. If you have specific questions, then post them here. But it is impossible for anyone here to tell you what the best of anything is for you.
  5. Something 'new' today
  6. Ladles & Gentlemen, all ships at sea, allow me to present.......... The (nearly complete) Rolex GMT-Master Model 6542
  7. As always, home & family 1st. Other than that, back at you, CBR. I hope the ripples still themselves & the boat steers you back here someday soon. Til then, good luck with everything.
  8. I like that..........may have to visit an AD.
  9. I got a nice 130-page Patek catalog by walking into an AD & asking for 1.
  10. Ending the workweek wearing this today And probably this tonight
  11. Well done, guys. I have a feeling this 1 will be getting alot of wrist time.
  12. Real men do it by hand.
  13. Some of the watch parts houses offer Asian GMT movements, but I have never used these, so you would need to check with them to be sure. You might do some research to see what is available & post the results here, because alot of people have been asking the same question. Depending on how much work you are willing to do, I think you could probably fit either movement in there. The 1575 GMT is the largest of the 3 (28.2mm x 6.3mm). Between the 2893-2 (25.6mm x 4.1mm) & 2836-2 (25.6mm x 5.05mm), the 36 is the larger of the 2, so, other than possibly having to reorient the movement within the case to account for the height/stem alignment differences, I think that would work as well. But you also have to factor in a set of replacement hands for the 1575 if you go that route since the ETA hands (which should fit either ETA) will not fit the Rolex movement.
  14. The crown not screwing down properly is a common problem, which is most likely due to a worn crown tube (possibly worn threads within the crown, but much less likely). A simple fix for any watchmaker with a replacement tube (we usually rethread the case with a tap & then fit a Swiss-made aftermarket or genuine Rolex tube, both of which can be gotten from ebay or most watch parts suppliers) Ordinarily, it is a good idea to have the movement fully serviced when you receive a new rep (since most of the movements in reps are used/unserviced when you receive them). But the movements in the GMTIIC are so finicky that The Master here (Ziggy) has all but refused to work on them at all due to their fragile nature. And I think alot of others here would follow his lead (I know I do). If you can locate a better replacement movement & handset, that would be a good option.
  15. The GMT Master I just received (at hypersonic speed - in 4 days) from Josh contains a gen ETA 2836-2. Admittedly, some of the screw heads were pretty beat-up & the movement was in definite need of an overhaul (no surprises there), but I did get what I paid for. Now, to put this in context, I have to say that this is only the 3rd rep watch I have purchased in over a year (the other 2 were the Swiss chs GMTIIC & Silix rols176 Cartier vintage Sub that is marketed as having an Asian 21J movement), so I am in no position to make pronouncements regarding how my finding translates into what may or may not be installed in the majority of rep watches leaving the factories recently. But I think it does put to rest the claim that all ETAs in new rep watches are Asian-made ETA copies. Also, I think it bears mentioning that the (slow beat) Asian 'POS' movement that powered the Silix Sub was quite an eye-opener as well. This movement was built quite well & although I have not disassembled the entire calibre, the fit & finish of the external parts I am able to inspect is quite good. I might even say on par with a gen ETA, but I will reserve that comment until I have time to disassemble/reassemble & test it on the WeiShi.
  16. Is there a reason you did not detail the nature of the problem you want fixed?
  17. Wearing the usual today But closing in on this
  18. I would wait 1 week & then ask 1 of the Mods to see if this member has been logging into RWG during that time. If not, then he is likely dealing with more important issues & I would give him another week. If he has been logging in, then I would email him once more & politely ask if there is a problem with the watch you purchased on (insert date of purchase here)? Give him 48 hours to respond (check with the Mod again to see if he logged in during this time) & then post a public notice/complaint/warning. If you receive nothing in a week, register a complaint with Paypal and/or (if you used a credit card) ask your bank to cancel payment.
  19. I need a tassle.
  20. You are right about the dial. Mk1 indeed. My apologies. A beautiful watch.
  21. Even though I prefer older vintage, it works for me. Another Tribalized Classic.
  22. What is nicer than a 1675 on a jubilee? Easy. Carolina, in the mornin'............or a 6542 (unfinished) with a jubilee waiting in the wings, of course All kidding aside, a real beauty, Nanuq.
  23. This is a gen - compare to yours Yours You could probably find something better, but I just did a quick scan of Josh's site & found this. I am not a big fan of this tinted lume, but the crown & fonts are more accurate Here is the link I do not mean to pick on you, but I think that dial is marring an otherwise outstanding franken.
  24. All of your hard work definitely shows in the final result. But, at this level of sophistication, that dial just does not cut it.
  25. Do I get a fez?
