  1. There's a 6538 dial and insert for sale, asking price $20,000
  2. Eeeeeeeeek!! Weren't you terrified?!
  3. Ah it was no big deal. He's about a 3-year bull (see the antlers starting to grow back in) and he was on my trail eating willow tips. I talked to him for awhile and moved closer and he wasn't real agitated, so I kept moving closer until he put his head down and ears back. I snapped a quick photo then just backed away from him down the trail. No biggie. He had lots of room to escape sideways so he didn't feel real threatened. If there were thicker trees on that trail I couldn't have got so close.
  4. Sure thing, M! But remember along with the Bullwinkles we also get the Smokies....
  5. Well maybe the loonies don't live long, but it's exciting!
  6. Oh yeah they can kick the crap out of you. See the ears are back? Baaaaad sign. Take the pic and back off!
  7. Cc33 is correct. The originals were all "white copper" alloy with silver tone plating. Very soft, very prone to bending and wear / loss.
  8. Welcome! Kick your feet up, and enjoy the place.
  9. Aloha Mai, Hambone. We are home now, and counting the days until we go back. I have an opportunity to move there this fall as a job swap. This is a very very hard decision!
  10. Hike, that would be too easy for a dirtbag like him, it's too quick. I'm thinking honey, hot sun and an ant hill.
  11. Hambone, I'm sorry to hear this. That was tough to put in words. I'm sorry. Stick around here, you'll find a LOT of support and encouragement. One day at a time mate. Live in the moment.
  12. Freddy's right, but it's tough to recreate the look of 50+ years of use without making it look fakey. I'm on the way with my Big Dazza but still a long way from where it needs to be. Especially around the caseback. Some comparisons: And now the Big Dazza. You can see its not "right" there.
  13. Natalie used to have them for $350 ish without the insert.
  14. You mean I shouldn't be wearing mine while I split wood, play hockey and ride the mtn bike?
  15. Hey B! Got any new vintages burning a hole in your overly full pockets?
  16. Show me a pic of the inside of your crown, at the same angle where Freddy shows his trio. See how the threads on the 700 go clear to the base on the inside? That's unique to the 700.
  17. Ohhhhhh reeeaaaaaally! So a 2846 can replace a 1575! That means, like Freddy said, anything is possible!
  18. My only concern is squeezing a non-1030 movement in that case and getting the stem height right. The rest? Cakewalk.
  19. I'll give Natalie a whistle. Thanks gents! Cc33 you and I might have an appointment with destiny.
  20. Gents, I'm considering going gonzo and building a Big Crown from a Minh case. Problem is, if I use a 1030 movement then I'll never USE the thing the way I want to. I'll baby it and that's not my cup of tea. So I'm considering sacrilege: A Minh case, top notch dial and hands, and an ETA movement. I know, I know.... it's a cardinal sin. Tough. My question, can it be done? Is there a low beat ETA movement and ring with approximately the same dimensions as a genuine 1030 movement? Thanks gents!
