That's a great photo cc33. Thanks! I'll aim for that. The crown I got has what looks like a typical Triplock crown o-ring inside, tight around the center column.

Now that the Big Crown frenzy has plateaued, and our crown o-rings have had a chance to take some abuse, has anyone found a source for the correct flat gaskets that should be inside these crowns, rather than the supplied o-rings? I'm thinking of a thin flat bicycle inner tube and two leather punches to make donut shaped cutouts. Any other ideas?

Simple, you just gotta make sure that sucker is REALLY pressed in there right. Here's how I do it:

That's another good place to check. But if it was watertight before and now it isn't, I'm thinking gaskets. Is the caseback gasket the correct thickness, IE, does it fill the gap between the case and back? How many gaskets did your tube and crown have? Did you use Loctite on the tube threads? Again, build yourself a Nalgene bottle pressure tester, remove the movement, and try it in water. You'll the see problem in 2 seconds.

Do I keep the beater and (ab)use it, or build a beauty like yours, then fear getting it wet? PS: I know what you mean about the lume. That's exactly how my 6536/1 acts.

Yep, its the GIDT at work. This is why I only sell (or give) watches to people I've known awhile. There are givers and there are takers. I like to "give" to the givers.

I had a Sea Dweller that fogged up when I went mountain biking and NOTHING would fix it. Very frustrating. I'm thinking your leak is somewhere where your skin meets metal, so your cast off moisture gets in. This means crown gasket, tube-to-case gasket, or caseback gasket. Those are also all the new pieces.<br /><br />I have a Big Crown with proper gaskets and it worked fine underwater for a day in Hawaii, then leaked the next day. The thickness of the crown o-ring prevents the crown being screwed all the way down, and I had to learn to tighten the crown just enough to squeeze the o-ring but not grossly deform it. Now it's watertight again.<br /><br />Like he said, your best move is to remove the movement and do a water immersion pressure test. There's going to be an impressive leak somewhere.<br />

Very nice! What case is that? I've got a Big Dazza 6538 and its crystal is a dead ringer for a flatter "service" dome. I'm thinking about swapping to a higher dome like yours.
