  1. Now this will be a worthy machining challenge for JMB's mad skills, making a Tudor Channel in a flat back. I'm sure it would be trivial, but for the "teeth" you'll have to machine into the channel.
  2. You mean... *gasp* there's nothing genuine about this beauty? Do you have comparison photos for the less informed?
  3. Okay gents, cast your steely gaze upon this Snowflake: http://cgi.ebay.com/TUDOR-SUBMARINER-REF-9411-snowflake-/260822973066 And tell me if you think it's gen, and why. With all the Tudor Sub interest lately, let's educate ourselves!
  4. The dome shape difference between the gen t-17 and gen t-16 was remarkable too. I reeeaaaaally wanted that t-17 on my Sub but it just wouldn't fit. That's good to know that Clark's has a nice dome on their t-19. I'm looking for a better dome than my gen service replacement t-19 for the Snowflake.
  5. You know what, this presents an incredible opportunity. Most rep cases are too large for the smaller vintage dials so we get the huge wokky look to fill the gap. It seems it would be trivial to use the software and size up the decal 1 or 2mm so it fits a non-wokky case.
  6. Oh I love this hobby! Working on reps is a great way to try techniques like this. You'd NEVER want to do something horrible like using a disc grinder on a genuine 9315 to remove engraved initials. Right?
  7. Mmmmmmm Sophia Loren's got nothing on that beauty.
  8. No worries, like I said I paid waaaaay too much for it but they're very rare and I knew I could trust the source. I'm pretty sure I'll still have it, but won't you need a t19 for that 5512?
  9. Hey I'll buy a pearl.... got a Paypal account?
  10. There's no easy way. Try rubbing and pressing and squeezing SofScrub into all the links with your thumbs, it's an abrasive liquid cleanser. Then twist and flex and work the heck out of it, you'll see black pasty residue slowly appearing as the metal erodes, and you'll feel it loosening up some. I just did that with a 93150 rep and it's waaaaay better. It should take AT LEAST an hour.
  11. Alright, take the biggest number you know, add $100 and that's your down payment. No, seriously I paid $295 for it, from Philip on VRF about 9 years ago. I'd sell it at a loss, no sense charging someone else for my youthful transgression ("stupidity"). How about $225 and I'll pay the shipping?
  12. Very very sad. My friends are in Sandefjord now, I hope they stay safe. Be careful, all Nordmenn.
  13. That's a very good eye. The hours and minutes hands are gold, and the seconds hand is silver. This is how they were delivered, when a lacquered gilt dial was installed. In most cases the seconds hand is actually white (gag) but Rolex seems to be all over the board with this. But the gold/silver(white) combo is correct, especially for the two toned silver/gold lettering on a gilt dial. There is some confusion about "big" vs "little" for the lollipop circle on the seconds hand, but I believe the small circle is correct for the 6536/1. For the 6538 you want the big circle... the famous "big lollipop". In the 17-jewel version of the 6536 you get even more confusion. As this is the 25-jewel "/1" model the gold/silver is okay.
  14. Couldn't have said it better, Pizz. Cheers! *klink*
  15. Hey Ubi, I'm forever in your debt for your help. It was one of the key steps toward putting it back to "all original" again. Couldn't have done it without you!
  16. Oh Lordy! You're just messing with me, right? C'mon say it isn't so. Or I'll HAVE to try it myself!! How long do the studs have to be to "float" my Red Rover? Oh man, I'm gonna lose some sleep over this one.
  17. Oh Gawd, are you kidding me?? I already put a new 80-grit belt on my belt sander!
  18. Video? Live feed of The Opening? Where's Geraldo?!
  19. Hey Diesel we love you anyway. I personally think your Rovers are an evil plot to drive poor mechanics insane.
  20. Crack that sucker open! All these years it's been cramped in there waiting for the rumored day when The Master comes. The legend says "Lo there will be a great shaking, and a great crashing sound. And He shall peer from on High upon the Chosen One, which shall be giddy with anticipation. And it shall come to pass that great scissors, the Holy Shears of Ubidom, shall release the Chosen One from its constraints and Lo, it shall be free. And there shall be great rejoicing in the land." How can you NOT open it now??
  21. Mmmmmmm BRG. Very nice. Hey Freddy I can safely say that a Spitfire will NOT float. Nope. Not even a little bit.
  22. No it just came home, barely taped shut, with a huge orange sticker and a scowl from my postman. Funny thing, the next time I sent it north it sailed right through. Those fun loving Canucks!
  23. I'm not so sure he isn't, instead, looking up from below. He was quite the character. Boy the stories I could tell about good old Earl.
  24. Man, can you imagine how perfect you could get with a COMEX dial? The overlay of "COMEX" onto white onto black might actually look right.
  25. Hey Val, thanks. A question: do you have a warm roof over your head? A wife that puts up with you? Kids that love you? A couple of true friends? Are you REALLY lucky and you've got a Boy Scouts troop? If so, then you've already won the lottery... that's the stuff that really matters in life.
