When you find your new crown don't necessarily believe it when they tell you it works perfectly. I paid a pretty penny for a 6mm Brevet crown for my Submariner, and discovered the threaded tube inside the crown turns in its cage as I try to wind the movement. YARGH! I can set the time, but that's all.

No, see what happened is ... he was looking at his watch in the dark with a lighter thinking HOW MUCH LONGER ARE THESE BLOODY LIGHTS GOING TO BE OUT??!!! and this is the result. Oops. Seriously, that's a nice result!

Boy I'd give Ken's left nut for one of those T19s if they've got the big domed vintage profile. The, um, CRYSTAL not Ken's nut that is...

That's a great build! If you decide to fix the insert later, you can get aftermarket bezels and inserts that fit together, and then member JMB can do magic making them snap onto the watch.

There's been a ton of them on eBay lately, but may not work with your last link configuration where it penetrates into the endlink opening. Got pictures?

"Coordinating"? "Fine details"? Dude, if you can't do it with a hammer & chisel, an acetylene torch or an axe, it don't need done. Build that sucker! People the world over are glued to their computer screens frantically hitting "refresh".

Ah, I apologize my friend, I'm sure you read something into my words that was not there. But my life and work is extremely precise and concrete; in the work I do there is zero room for "squishiness" and I happened to post that from work so... mea culpa. I will have to disagree about the correlation for hours worked vs. success. Of everyone I know, without exception, some work HARD and they do well. This includes general contractors, plumbers, septic field designers, architects, carpenters, airframe mechanics, loadmasters, guides, car mechanics, barristas, house cleaners, and on and on. I also know some people that work the bare minimum hours to fill their 40-hour obligation, and they're just stuck in a rut going nowhere. There is no sense of pride in their work and no motivation. I've also noticed that these people do not volunteer or "give back" very often, but the successful ones constantly volunteer and mentor. Does that come from their socio-economic strata? Or Is it the other way around? Perhaps their lack of diligence and going the extra mile leaves them where they're at in life? Perhaps they absorbed or learned this work ethic from their parent, who for the same reasons was also "stuck" in life? I've seen boys that come from wealth in my troop that just don't care. Others are hyper motivated, perhaps TOO motivated. And some from poorer families expect life to be handed to them and others know they have to work hard to succeed. I haven't seen a correlation between status and work ethic. But I have seen a strong positive correlation between hard work and Eagle Scouts. What was the key, IMHO? A strong group of peers and mentors that encourage them toward greatness. That got the fire burning and kept it burning. Then those boys took off like rockets, regardless of their circumstances in life.

Thanks Woof! I was out building a gate last night in a driving rain and crazy winds (cue: Ride of the Valkyries) and looked down and realized I was wearing the old girl. She's been through a lot with me over the years. Now with a new lease on life, she'll go through a lot with my kids too.

This will be a nice project, gilt and gold look GREAT together. Heck, keep the seconds hand silver for a real retro look. Try Kirk Rich for a gilt dial. And don't use sparkly new gold hands. Try painting them with a q-tip and foamy espresso crema once mounted on the watch. Great effect!

Look at that aging!! I'm in the presence of a Master. Not worthy... not worthy...

You want to take it easy with the "edge softening" too, I really pooched the chamfers on this one. And once the chamfers are shot, well you just lose the overall "gently aged" effect.

Wow!!! Time to sell some odds and ends and make a move!!

I cannot verify if the cartel tube will work, but the way a 703 crown seal fits "into" the end of its tube, instead of "flat" across the end of the tube... I wouldn't chance it leaking. I think I saw a gen 703 tube on Ebay last night for $20. Chances are the case threads will already be correct, but you might need to relieve the case tube opening a little to let it countersink flush to the case. Easy squeasy, a drill bit and a cordless drill, 30 seconds.

DRAT!!! I know I'll find it if I keep looking...

Hey Ubi, you'll like this... when my daughter was young she had a teacher that took her under her wing and they started running and spending quality time. One afternoon the teacher asked her over to make some stained glass, and I was there with my camera. Stained Glass
