  1. AJ it's good to know your lovely daughters are safe.
  2. I bet you have a lot more influence with him than you realize. This is a great opportunity for you to try different ways to get him to step up. Usually when you make the right moves people around you will too, maybe you can turn his path a little more toward responsible behavior by being a little more responsible yourself? Small changes are the ones that last, so start today and see what small change you can bring about. You might surprise both yourself and him! Good luck.
  3. Thanks for your candor, it's great to just be open and "yourself" so we can get to know the real you. I know I'm not you, but if I had a roommate that slacked and lost his job I wouldn't be as kind as you, letting him not chip in toward the bills because he's .... waiting for a tonsils appointment? Did I hear that right? Point him and a lawnmower toward the neighbor houses and tell him to go earn his rent while he waits. But that's just me....
  4. What a shame. That's terrible. Every parent's worst fear. Friends from the UK will you kindly check in to let us know you're alright?
  5. Welcome aboard, Anthony. I think you'll find a great number of similar enthusiasts here.
  6. Regardless, I LOVE the hours and minutes hands on your MilSub!!
  7. Con los diamantes esto no es un Submariner! Datejust??
  8. And here I had my collection thinned down to 15 pieces. Arrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh
  9. Unfortunately there are many different Submariners and they use different methods. All are described here in detail. Can you post up photos of the watch and some details to get people going on the right path?
  10. Not bad, not bad. I'm a connoisseur of cheap drink, so with no small amount of humility I offer a dozen of my favorite inexpensive wines: 12. Chateau Traileur Parc 11. White Trashfindel 10. Big Red Gulp 9. Grape Expectations 8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays" 7. NASCARbernet 6. Chef Boyardeaux 5. Peanut Noir 4. Chateau des Moines 3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar! 2. World Championship Riesling 1. Nasti Spumante You can thank me later
  11. Beautiful! That's a collection to be proud of. Dangling participles notwithstanding.
  12. And there you go. Ssteel will take great care of you.
  13. Magnificent. You should post some comparison photos of that vs. a gen. The FF is remarkably good.
  14. There's a bunch of parts in there called the keyless works and if you ask me they're ridiculously fragile. I don't know how many times I've pooched my own watches this way. The movements they ship in reps (even straight from the factory) are nearly always in need of a cleaning and lube. If you sent it off to one of the guys here that do movement servicing it would be back and working perfectly before you know it, with another lease on life.
  15. What a great conversation. This is EXACTLY why we're here, to share information about watches. Whether it's a noob and a first purchase or it's warning people off from a bogus site, or it's staking canon pinions and broaching hands... we are all somewhere on a learning curve and the guys that stick around awhile are here to learn even more, and to share what they've learned the hard way. I really appreciate the writeup Sogeha did, that's a couple years of experience for someone doing it the hard way. He saved a lot of people a lot of time and money with that simple post. So to noobs far and wide, be courageous! Have confidence. Ask questions but don't be an ass about it. Show gratitude and gain knowledge. Post photos and writeups of what you're doing and before long you'll be an old timer that can't stay away from this place we call 127.0.0.1
  16. Looks nice... I developed a taste for Bulleit myself. Probably pretty pedestrian compared to that top shelf stuff!
  17. That's the rare "mini radial" dial that only appeared 1973-4 which is 10 years after she was born, and the curved hands, matching the early 70s date of the dial. So yes they must have been replaced during a service. Fortunately, or unfortunately, my local AD watchmaker called me one glorious day and said to bring it down pronto, he had a gilt tropical dial for me. But he needed a dial to send in, if he wasn't sending the tropical gilt. I was forced to decide between the Radial and the tropical gilt. I went gilt, and that beautiful Radial dial went back to Rolex. What a shame, I wish I'd had a garden variety matte to send in instead.
  18. Well said. And sadly this week we've had a perfect example that money doesn't make your troubles go away. R.I.P. Chris Cornell
  19. Here's a reference point. This is from 1963 and it isn't beat, and it isn't fresh. It's just been worn a lot. All the detail is being worn away so it's just "smoother" everywhere. Hands and dial are slightly yellowed, not much.
  20. I love the dark lume on the hands in that 2nd pic!
  21. SoundGarden - Chris Cornell
  22. Got a few of them lying around here...........
