  1. Thanks Freddy that's good advice. But I know for a fact it's thoroughly (cough) dried out now. It doesn't use any kind of standard bezel/ring connection to the case and the bezel refuses to come off. I can pick the crystal out with my fingernail so I need to get something on its lip to glue it down to the case. I don't plan to get it any wetter than a bike ride in the rain so resistance is plenty... I don't need "proof"ness.
  2. Nope... this crystal is just pushed in the front, and friction holds it in the bezel/insert. No bueno. I wonder if a dollop of UV glue around the base would hold it, seal it, and not be too visible?
  3. JoeyB, our bears like the wahine just fine, you'll notice the kane got away uneaten. That fog came from one simple mtn bike ride. Well, 12 miles of rooty singletrack in a heavy rain. Sheesh, you'd think the thing could stand a little dampness.
  4. Maybe I need to revisit the situation...
  5. Maybe it's my brain suffering from too much fun yesterday (cough) but aren't the subdials spaced closer on the gen PO than 7750 spacing?
  6. They don't ship to the USA, but if anyone needs digital calipers in the UK.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/LUJII150mm-ELECTRONIC-DIGITAL-CALIPERS-VERNIER/dp/B007K7F04C
  7. It's similar to, but not quite the same as Occam's Razor ... this is Occam's Flow-bee.
  8. The S.H.I.T. and BR.O.K.E theorems are preceded in familiarity only by John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory. This is what keeps our intrepid band of Moderators on their toes.
  9. Quality over quantity? That's the Simplified Horological Internet Theorem (S.H.I.T.) Adding in the Beer Coefficient "ß" we can rewrite this more accurately as... QL(1/ß) ÷ QN(1/ß) which is widely known as the BeeR Overload Kinetic Expenditure (B.R.O.K.E.) theorem. Note the reciprocals of the Beer Coefficients ... there's where we run into trouble. Suck down a few beers and your appreciation for Quality (QL) goes out the window, while at the same time your desire for Quantity (QN) approaches infinity. Then the next day when your Beer Coefficient has (hopefully) returned to zero, your appreciation for Quality likewise returns.
  10. Okay I've done my part... let's go!
  11. The flare from the burning swamp gas caused a reaction and bent the sun's rays so they went in through the cyclops and ricocheted all under the bezel and turned everything a whiter shade of pale.
  12. It's the attack of the Milgausses! Seriously, these are handsome pieces.
  13. It looks tropical, correct bezel, correct crown, narrow lugs.... C'mon where'd you get the gen 6541?!
  14. Holy crap, Woof! Whaaaaaaat??!!??? You can't just drop that without explanation. More photos!!
  15. It's mostly a mystery. It has a very accurate dial and hands, although the font for SUBMARINER is not non-proportional, it has short "E"s and squashed "S". Curious. The coronet is narrow as it should be with a flattened opening. The caseback is correctly shaped and nicely engraved, and the CGs are very good, as is the bezel. The crown is not gen and there are what appear to be fixed bars in the lugs but they don't protrude to the outside of the lugs. It boasts an "A.A. movement that looks a little like ETA but isn't. A tropic 21 crystal fits perfectly although the one on it now is a mystery too. It's a great starting point for a beater!
  16. Just getting started on the aging [emoji41]
  17. Dammit, Bobby was so proud of his catch he left it on my keyboard again. You have no idea the size hairballs I'll have to deal with tonight.
