You can get that same thing from Trusty for $168 and it uses an A6497 instead of a 21J.

Oh, just wait. In 6 months we'll be seeing another post from you saying the exact same thing, but you'll be talking about the 47mm PAMs. From that wrist shot, you can pull off 44mm no problem...

Where are babola and BigBadBrad to weigh in on this? I'm no Fiddy guru, but what I've gotten from reading other posts is that DSN's latest dial uses a font that is too dark, but more beige/tan than his previous dials, not grey. Whereas the "other" rep dials use a font that is a bit too light. Pick your poison. I know some people have uninstalled the dials and had them lightly airbrushed to darken the font to be more accurate. I don't know how difficult that is to have done, but it is possible. I know from experience that DSN's domed sapphires have VERY blue AR. I've not seen a gen Fiddy/217, so I can't comment on the accuracy of this. Sounds like a great project! I can't wait to see the final results.

DSN 232 - How is the dial? Picky people wanted! :)
peepshow replied to chad's topic in The Panerai Area
I agree with you and Vic, though, he is hit or miss. It's not for a lack of trying, like c_j pointed out. Back on-topic, though, his 232 is a winner, IMO. -
DSN 232 - How is the dial? Picky people wanted! :)
peepshow replied to chad's topic in The Panerai Area
This DSN dial is one of the most accurate PAM rep dials I've ever seen from any source. I personally think his 232 dial is as good or better than any of the others out there (based on pics), when you add in his lume, cannon pin fix, etc, it's a no-brainer. -
What 029 are you using? I have an Ocean7 G-1 GMT on the way that I'm going to wear for a few months and then transplant the movement into either a 029 or a 063. I think the 063 might be a bit more accurate, but the dial strikes me as too busy. I know DSN sells hands for for 2893s, but the pointer on his GMT hand is too big. I'm going to investigate if there is a possibility of modding the small GMT hand to work...

What, exactly, is subpar about the crown on your watch.

Color on that clip is a bit sketchy on my laptop. Looks like it could be a gold or rose gold Luminor? Perhaps something like the PAM140?

What can you tell me about this Ebay seller?
peepshow replied to old skool's topic in The Panerai Area
I can tell you that it is Homer. I would assume that's the same modified 2836-2 that's in most of the Swiss GMT reps that we see. -
Tootall, HKTan, SMAT, Vintager, I'm sure there are others. Tootall made a 27/22 black calf strap for my gen PAM210, and it's awesome. I bought a Vintager strap for my wife's rep 048 and I was very impressed with Micah's customer service and the quality of the strap. Good luck.

Don't even get me started on that, Kruz! I don't see the need for a PR complication at all, especially on an 8 day movement. Just wind it up every once in a while and you're set. It's not that tough to say to yourself: "Hmmm, I haven't wound my watch in almost a week, I guess it's time..." Is it?

I would LOVE to see a new 112-like base Luminor from Panerai utilising the new 8 Day in-house movement. I could fall in love with the 233 if they moved the PR indicator to the rear of the movement, like the JLC movement in the 190. I can live with the date, the GMT hand and the day/night indicator.

The first rep I ever bought was a 2893 powered PAM063 for $200. I found it on eBay while shopping for IWI Marine Divers, of all things. I sold it for $200 a month or two later. I'm now in the process of recreating that 2893 powered 063 and it's going to cost a LOT more than $200.

vaccum is in south FL. He's pretty busy, but he'll sort you out...

1. To OEM buckles do, but many (almost every) gen Panerai owner changes out thier strap and gets aftermarket buckles to fit, with and without inscription. -- I agree 100%, only one of the straps on my 210 (your black strap, Tootall) retains the OEM buckle. 2. Personal preference. Deployment strap are uncomfortable IMO. The GPF is the classic and the Pre-V is just that Pre-V. -- Agreed. I prefer tang buckled straps 3. These are the lengths. Here is a good description of them: http://www.paneristi.com/straps/howbig.html -- Nothing really to add to that! 4. This one you are going to ghave to do on your own. Search for the weekly wrist shots and posts that have the word 'pics' in the title. -- Yep, the search button is your friend. I don't have any "plain brown" straps. 5. How much you are looking to spend is probably the major factor. Price is always an issue, unless you are living off someone else's money. So get a price range and go from there. -- You know it! And for "bang for the buck" you can't go wrong with straps made by "our" strapmakers, Tootall, Savage, V, fxrAndy, etc. (sorry if I left anyone out, it's not intentional!)

Roll call.. How many RWG members have a genuine Panerai?
peepshow replied to V's topic in The Panerai Area
I'm here, too, Victoria. PAM210 -
I have to agree with Virgil. I think the bubble is going to burst on the Fiddy. I remember guys talking about getting Fiddys at below MSRP shortly after the release. With more and more 47mm PAMs being released, I don't see the 127/217 holding this crazy popularity. Time will tell.

Crap, Andy, how did I know someone was going to ask me that? Let me see if I can dig it up. I believe DSN started it due to all of the undbranded requests he was getting from gen watch sites. Hold one.... EDIT -- I can't find it. I know he has one, though. I guess just send him an email and ask him for the creds for that photobucket album. Seems like it was: James123Chen or something similar...
-
Gianton, it could be a vac watch. He quite often sources parts from Davidsen, from what I understand. It could also be a watch straight from DSN himself, he (DSN) has an entire photobucket album devoted to his "unbranded" pieces.
-
That's a DSN case that old skool took a cape cod cloth to. It looks really nice.

A stitchless black strap from Savage or Tootall. Like this one from Savage, but stitchless:
-
Sandwich dial = H series or newer. This dial is also used in the 177. I can't believe that Davidsen isn't selling his sandwich 111/177 dial anymore. Did you ask him for THAT particular dial? That may be an older version that he doesn't produce anymore....
-
This dial snafu doesn't make this a Canal St. quality rep, at all. Everything else about this watch is absolutely above average. Even gen PAMs have gotten past the factory QC -- I saw one on Paneristi a few months ago that was missing one of the "L"s in "L Swiss L". It was just "Swiss L"! j, did you ask Angus if he could simply send you a replacement dial and you could have it installed? Vic, I got a 111E from Angus in late November and it was flawless. I wouldn't let this one issue dissuade me from buying a watch from him...

Rob, the 164 looks like this: Not sure if he's asking if you if you can make the dots at the 5 minute marks bigger?
