  1. If you want a really, really good one, get in touch with mymanmatt, he's the master of the Rolex Datejust and Day/dates. He can build you one with a genuine dial, genuine crown and genuine bezel. They will stand up to scrutiny anywhere. Here is one he made for me a while back. As you can see the case is not engraved with any markings. if you fit it with the Rolex President bracelet, which Matt has as well, you cannot see inside the lugs, so no one will ever know it's not a genuine case unless the bracelet is removed.
  2. one for three!! two for three!! Here is a Lume shot you can see I like lume!!!
  3. Wonder if one of the companies that were being "cut off" sent a message?
  4. Actually I believe the shots of the 6542 were either iPhone 5 or and Olympus Stylus. the biggest problem I have with using the iPhone /point and shoots are the size and weight. they are so small and light, it's very difficult to hold them steady. I'm going to get some of the prime lens, I was actually thinking about the 60mm as it is also a Macro, which would be good for watch photos, from the reviews, it looks like a pretty nice lens. I would like the 35mm 1.4 next as you said it's a super low light lens. I wish I could buy the whole kit at one time, but it's right after Christmas and I've also got tax time staring me in the face!! Gloomy day today, might get out some of the lights and tripod and try to get some better shots of the watches.
  5. There are three gens in the box. Can you tell which are gen? Here are a couple of photos of the White GMT 6542 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Dbane, thanks for the critique!! Just learning the camera, this was a quick and dirty with only room light. I've got all the stuff to do good photos, big light tent, Gitzo tripod with a ball head, lights, most of this left over from the days of doing wildlife ( mostly waterfowl) and scenics. I just opened the top of the case and took a couple of photos. Better photos to follow. One of the reasons I got the X Pro1 was the extremely disappointing results I've gotten with my IPhone and various point and shoot cameras. They all take wonderful photos under ideal lighting conditions, but when the light is bad, too much backlighting, too dark, etc. the quality drops off dramatically. Sort of like back in the old days with film cameras, all things being equal, you could get a better photo with a 6x6 like a Hasselblad over a miniature like a Minox. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I got a new camera for Christmas, and I've been shooting a lot of photos trying to figure out all of the myriad settings and combinations. I took a couple of photos of my Rolex watches snuggled up nice and cozy in their case. Just for info purposes, the camera is a Fujifilm X Pro1 with the 18-55 zoom lenses. First really nice camera I have owned in years. I've been shooting with basically upper end point and shoot cameras since my Canon 10D decided to develop a tendency to crash without warning!! The thing I really like about the Fuji, it's small and light, very sophisticated sensor, interchangeable lenses, and is pretty retro looking, sort of like the film versions of the Leicas. Enough about cameras, on to the photo !! Here is the collection
  8. You are asking questions that have been answered a thousand times on the Rolex forum. quit typing and start reading!! Before you start buying stuff, you need a plan. To make a plan, you need to know what you want to accomplish. To know what you want to accomplish, you need to read and do your research, build a knowledge base. that's what every one of us who have built franken Rolex watches has done. If you don't do these simple steps, you are going to spend a ton of money on a sack full of parts that don't work with each other. So you can heed everyone's advice and do your research and make a plan, or you can get on EBay and buy a bunch of parts, spend a bunch of money and hope that they all fit together. And in my experience, Hoping and wishing are not a plan!! And preacher, I really, really like that TT DJ that linen dial is a show stopper!!
  9. Are the frankens you posted lumed? A lume shot would be great!!
  10. Very impressive!!! Your super frankens are all really, really nice.
  11. He checks in here periodically, if he sees the message, he will empty his box. might want to post this over in the Rolex forum as that's where he visits most I believe.
  12. Must be a story behind that splint and Coban elastic wrap!!! You didn't get your hand caught in a Grizzly trap did you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Merry Christmas to all. have a safe and happy Christmas.
  14. I tried to find the earlier discussion, and i couldn't find it, I'll keep looking.
  15. PM Mike on a bike, he can get you all the info you need. Welcome back!!
  16. Looking for a nice condition V4.1 or v5 AP diver. Shoot me a PM
  17. Pretty hard to drum up any sympathy for Bill Koch. He's another in a long line of super rich arrogant people who get conned by someone who is a better con artist than they are!! Why would anyone want or need wine that is that costly. It's never going to be opened and drunk, and in fact most of it is so far past it's prime that it is undrinkable. Might make a pretty good vinaigrette, but maybe not even good for that. you could open the bottles, throw out the wine and refill them with any good 50 buck wine, and those idiots would never be the wiser, if it were resealed to look like it was done 100+ years ago. Counterfeit wine like counterfeit everything is becoming more of a problem, as the crooks get smarter and it gets easier to reproduce something that looks like it's 100 years old, not 100 days. Amazingly, it's not just the super rare wine, but also some of the recent top flight wines, those that command a price of several hundred dollars a bottle. I read somewhere lately that a big lot of counterfeit French Bordeaux was confiscated and destroyed. It was being sold as some of the Grand Cru wines from a really good year, instead it was just run of the mill recent vintage Bordeaux. I'm sure buying wine is just like buying anything of value, you have to buy the seller first, know what you are buying, and if you don't know, you better find someone you can trust that can tell the difference. AFA wine, you can't test it, because opening the bottle means that the wine has to be drunk within a few hours. No one is going to let a prospective buyer open a bottle of 25K wine to test it.
  18. There was a thread here a few days back, maybe on the Rolex forum about that swap, and both of the things you encountered were discussed there. I looked for the thread, but couldn't find it. I do remember there was some discussion about which one of the Sellita movements would "drop in" to replace a 2836 or a 2824. I did find something on the Watch U Seek forum and they are saying the Sellita dial feet will fit an ETA movement. You just have to make sure you are replacing the correct model Sellita movement. It is supposed to be a drop in replacement for the ETA movement. the biggest problem we have with reps is the lack of uniformity in relation to parts. Some parts will interchange with no problem, others that look like they should fit fine won't. When you deal with genuine watches, dials, movements, you can expect that replacement parts that are supposed to fit, will fit, not so with reps.
  19. It is a very nice watch. I have worn it and the two Ploprof homages diving all over the Caribbean and they are all very nice. The main thing with watches like this, you know from the onset that they are water resistant, because they are all checked before they leave the factory. they all have Swiss movements, the older one's have brand new Swiss ETA movements, the titanium Ploprof has a Sellita movement. The GMT has a Swiss ETA 2893-2 movement, which is the standard for GMT's in this price range.
  20. I suppose it's all about what you are comfortable with. I agree that there are some really nice genuine watches out there for less than 1K. that might sound like a lot, but honestly, guys, how many of us buy a 400-500 USD rep and then spend that amount or more modding the watch? Add a gen crystal, maybe a gen crown/tube, relume and movement service, and you are looking at a 1K rep!! Don't get me wrong, you aren't going to get a genuine of most of your reps for 1K!! I have been wearing a really nice AP FC V3 diver for the past few weeks, cost me a little over 500 USD, but this is a 20K + watch in the genuine model. Same as my vintage Rolex models. most of the genuine models are 5-30 K. So there is something to be said for reps that are less than say 1K representing a 20-30K watch. On the other hand, a lot can be said in defense of a less expensive genuine watch. as a poster above said, there is a great "peace of mind" that comes from buying a watch that has a warranty, was assembled in a "real" watch factory, with "real" quality control, well adjusted, clean and oiled movements. And most of all a company that will address issues and problems post sale. I have a mix of genuine and rep watches, 12 reps and 14 genuine. This is really and insane number, because in actuality, you would be hard pressed to have more than say a 5-6 watch rotation. My problem is I find it very hard to get rid of watches, unless they just don't resonate with me at all from the get go. I digress from the original topic though, here are a few really nice genuine watches that probably a lot of folks have not heard of, small companies but really nice watches. First off is MKII Owned by Bill Yao, building some really ,really nice homages to vintage Rolex and a couple of others. MKII owns the names and all the rights to Tornac Rayville, and is planning a reintroduction of that watch in the future. Two versions of the MKII Kingston MKII Stingray Next the offerings from a little watch company based in Florida, Ocean7 LM7's their homage to the Omega Ploprof Professional 1 Stainless steel version Professional 2 All Titanium, very light and a great dive watch!! Ocean7 GMT (watch came with Sword hands originally, I had the hands replaced with Mercedes hands) So here we have 6 watches from 2 small manufacturers that were all priced under 1K when new
  21. A little change from the AP that I've worn for the past few weeks!!
