  1. I've looked at 50 different 16800 and 16803 dials since tyou started this topic. I even have my gen 16610 sitting in front of me, looking at the dial thru a 8X loupe. I can't see any diference. I'm sure that the fact that the early 16800 dials were matte black and WOW!! i just realized, your dial is matte, every one of the others i have seen are gloss. Am I getting warm? So this one would have to be a very early, early dial, before they switched over to gloss? i bet this came from one of the first runs of 16083's probably built in 83,sold in 84 or therebouts. Why in the world did your friend take the dial/ insert out of the watch? Unless it was totally destroyed, I would bet the watch would be worth a pretty good premium over other 16803's.
  2. I just read another article that said 1983-88. Rolex ??????? "They know, but they never tell"!!!!!
  3. great video!! Considering that quite a few years ago, much younger, I got slightly altitude sick traveling to the Jungfraujoch Railway station (highest in Europe) in Switzerland., I cannot comprehend base camp at 17500 feet!! Amazing that folks are just walking around there like they were at sea level.
  4. Google Rolex 16803 and you will find some info. Since this was a transitional model and was only produced for a very short time, they are pretty rare, certainly not like Paul Newman Daytonas or 6538's but I'm sure not too many were made. AFA the dial, the same dial was used in the 16613 which followed the 16803. So honestly, your dial could be from a 16803 or an early 16613 before the dials changed to superluminova. When you finish, you will have a franken of a rare bird. Do you plan to use a Rolex movement, 3035? What case are you planning to use? Keep us posted.
  5. 16803 Was a transitional model that was produced between 1986-87. Replaced by the 16613. From what I've read they are pretty rare.
  6. did you buy the watch from me ? Or did you buy it from someone else? I did own the watch, and sold it. If you go back and read the sales post, it clearly states that the watch has a Clark crystal. Here is the link to my sales post. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/127021-sold-wm9bk-16610-v3-modded-and-genuine-parts/?hl=%2Bwm9+%2B16610#entry923139 . If you bought it from me, you should have known it had a Clark crystal. If you bought it from someone else after I sold it, The crystal could be a genuine, or maybe not? I believe that you should do your research and look up the old posts before you start accusing anyone of cheating you. I went back and looked through my old messages, it was sold to another member a couple of years ago, so I cannot say what crystal is on the watch now. However, when you use one of my old posts and use the context that you used, "previous owner", I believe that you should have clarified that while I was a previous owner, It was not sold by me to you.
  7. the Ebay Rolex police from the Rolex forum must have sniffed this one out, It's gone!!!
  8. i saw a genuine green ceramic yesterday at a Rolex dealer . I was in a hurry and really didn't get to handle it. Looks pretty nice, but my feeling it's a watch that would not get a lot of wear. One of these is fine for the Rolex owner that has lots of money and several other Rolex watches to wear. personally, It's not for me, but then, very few of the newer models appeal to me
  9. I believe the key to any movement that comes in a rep is to have it serviced. All of them are sublect to being dry and dirty. Have it serviced, and you will have a dependable and accurate movement for years. I have several watches that are up around 1k-1.5k that are running 2824 movements. And there are quite a few companies that produce much more expensive watches that use the ETA movements as a base and add modules, decoration, etc. to make them "their own".
  10. I believe this is and el fakaroonie!! The numbers don't look correct, they are too thick, and the 3 is not correct. the space between Cartier and Superlative Chronometer is too close. I'm sure there are tons of dial variations, but this one is suspect to me. Also I have never seen vintage lume turn lemon yellow?
  11. Z, I would like to see the price of the 1680 case, as well as a Tudor Rose 7924 dial. I had the same problem as concepta several monthsa ago, I can't log into their site, they never send the "lost password" info, and I emailed a couple of times about a Rivet bracelet , never got a response. If the price is good and this is a group buy, I might spring foradial and/or the 1680 case, but I really have a problem with a business that doesn't return emails!
  12. Actually in real life, it looks a lot greyer. I thought the same thing when i looked at the photos, "How did the insert get so blue"? I'll try to get a few more photos later this weekend. I actually have another insert, it's black, it's the other one that was in the aging thread, it got soaked in pure bleach for more than 40 minutes, just the slightest bit of aging. Matt wanted to put it on the watch, but It looked too "new" to me. If this one doesn't work out, i'll start looiking for a more grey version.
  13. Here are a few more photos taken this morning in the sunshine.
  14. Freddy, I agree. He sent me a photo of the hands and to me they were perfect, unfortunately, I was outside for a few hours and I didn't see the photos, by the time i saw them, he had domne then a little more, and were probably a tad overdone. It's now on a 9315 witha Tudor Clasp, 380 end links, so the bracelet part is OK.Not sure Rolex was using a Tudor clasp back then, but I don't have a good 9315 Rolex clasp to use. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.It's hard to tell from photos, but the hands don't appear as dark in the flesh. maybe this weekend can get a few shots outside in the sunlight ( If it ever comes back out here!!) I'm pretty sure the folded link is genuine, I have never seen a rep bracelet with this much stretch!!!
  15. Well guys i got the package from Matt this afternoon, couldn't wait to get home to open it up. So here we go. I'm pretty darn happy with the way this one turned out. Matt did a super job of getting everything together. Here are some photos taken tonight . I tookl the wristie photo and one other with the bond strap, but i decided to change it over to an old stretched 9315 witha Tudor clasp. i believe that the whole thing is genuine, at least the clasp is!! Here are the pichers, hope you like em!!
  16. There aren't any pictures!!! Can't tell if he is selling a watch a pin or a strap.
  17. ??????????? Obviously someone with little command of English. i suppose Ebay doesn't have a Ebay Brazil in Portuguese
  18. The way it's set up that's the only way to view it. If you want to see all the post in a particular topic, click on "View all" in the first post. i believe that this is a pretty cheap site, in that iImean it probably isn't nearly as expensive as some of the other watch sites like WUS and here at RWG. Since it's basically a private site, owned by Richard Carver, no membership fees and no advertising, he probably tries to get by as cheaply as possible. It's a site with a wealth of information, and certainly lots of great photos. I know its a PITA to navigate, and photos tend to disappear from posts pretty fast, but all in all I find it a lot better site than The Rolex Forum" although The Rolex Forum is a slicker site.
  19. For sure if all I wanted was bracelet, That's what I would do, not split up the watch. If you wanted a genuine bracelet for a rep, there are always plenty for sale on the VRF and Ebay, but genuine good ones aren't cheap!!
  20. Here is an update on the project as usual with modded reps, there is always going to be a glich or two in the process. At any rate Matt (mymanmatt) built the 18038 for me, using a gen spec case he sources, a Swiss ETA 2836 movement, genuine dial, genuine crystal 10K bezel and crown. He sent me a photo of the finished watch, and it looks really nice. Well he test ran the watch for a couple of days and everything semed fine. He got up Wednesday morning and the Day wheel had only turned over half way to Wednesday. Took everything apart, couldn't find anything wrong, so he's holding on to it now and running it to see if it does it agan, or was this just a one time deal. He's built a bunch of these as well as Dj's so he's very familiar with the watch. As usual my luck with builds!! Hopefully he will get everything sorterd out in a few days, and my Day Date will join this nice buckle/ strap on my wrist. Incidently my 2500th Post !!! Took me almost 7 years to get here, but it's sure been fun.
  21. That's pretty close, Ziggy charges that for his lume jobs 115.00 USD for dial, 35.00 USD for hands, so that's pretty standard. He is not accepting any new customers or new work, so you would need to find someone else. Here in the USA, Vac and pbdad are both recogniozed for their work, andI'm sure there are more around as well.
  22. My question is unless you were "cannabalizing" and older DJ for the movement, why would you part out a usable popular model? in my opinion, the whole is worth more than the sum of it's parts. If you have a genuine 16610, and you want or need a new insert, you can take it to a local Rolex AD and they will replace your old one (They are probably going to keep the old one), same with bracelets, crowns/tubes, etc. If you want it serviced , any Rolex trained watchmaker will work on it, and replace parts with genuine Rolex parts. Once you break it up, from Rolex SA's point of view, it's no longer a Rolex.Dealers won't replace parts, work on it, and don't think about having a RSC look at it!!
