You will never regret buying a gen Rolex GMT. Personally, I like the 16750 a little better than the 1675. It's got a quickset movement (newer and more robust) which is really handy unless you wear the watch every day or keep it on a winder. nothing worse than picking up a non quickset watch and having the date in the date window 25 days away from the present date!! If you find one of the early 16750's, they have the non metal surround dial plots (like the 1675), Matte dial and the dial has "Oyster Pepetual" not "Oyster Pepetual Date" like the later 16750 dials. Most of the 1675 "builds" are easily spotted because you have to use a 6mm crown instead of the gen 5.3mm that is standard on the 1675(0)"s Here is my 16750 It's a later model with the white gold surrounds. It is tritium so it has no glow left!!

GMT IIC Ceramic bezel/insert swap? More photos!
panerai153 replied to panerai153's topic in The Rolex Area
Keep us posted please. this is a pretty popular model, and while genuine bezel inserts are few ansd far between (And expensive!!) there are folks here who really like the watch and would like to make it as gen like as possible. Who knows, a couple of years ago, i looked for months for a gen crystal, they were just not obtainable, now you see then every now and then. -
Man, don't give it a second thought. The customs agents aren't going to be worried about watches on someones wrist, they are much more concerned about someone bringing in contraband food fruit,, stuff like that. I travel through Atlanta on a fairly regular basis, and Ihave carried several watches in my carry-on bag and one on my wrist, never has anyone raised a question. I suppose if you had a dozen brand new Rolex watches in their boxes with papers, etc., in your carryon they would probably take notice especially if you didn't declare them. they might get you for that, but a reasonable number of used watches , no problem. Another thing with the sequester BS starting in the USA, I would bet that you are going to see long lines at customs as well as security checkpoints, the agentsare going to be so pressed to get folks through the lines, they aren't going to shake you down for a watch!! Don't be surprised when you deplane, the customs lines are a mile long and pity the poor guy who has a short connection, because he probably isn't going to make it!!!

thanks for the additional photos. Too bad all those rep builders that tout their 1:1, Just like a genuine watch, copied directly from a genuine watch ,etc, etc. really are just spouting sales pitches for the most part. -

GMT IIC Ceramic bezel/insert swap? More photos!

Back about a year and a half ago, I popped my crystal out of my GMT IIC while trying to get the cyclops off!! I wqas putting some heat on it, just as I was advised, Not only did the crystal pop out, but it turned the numbers on the insert sort of a pinkish color in the area that got a little hot (Surprised the watch survived my assault). It was at this point that I decided that modding was not my forte. I sent the watch to FxAndy, as he offered to see if he could fix it, and install an AR'ed cyclop from Uwe. In the meantime docblackrock told me that he had a case with bezel/insert for sale. Not knowing if my insert was salvagable, I bought the case from him and he sent it to FxAndy. Andy told me that the bezel inserts on the two watches were not compatible, so I believe he used my old case and bezel and cleaned the insert up. Yesterday, I was curious about the other case, so I dug it out, took the insert off (It was barely glued on) and saw that the bezel construction was exactly as Steed12 described, spring wire clip holding the bezel in place. So now my question is how many different bezel setups have there been on the GMTIIC? Another question, looking at the gen like construction of sneed12's case, there are no indentions around the edge of the case opening, so how does the click spring work with that case, as the gen bezel definitely has a click spring like my rep.IS the bezel just a bidirectional friction fit like the old subs and SD, or is there somethingI'm missing ? Here are a couple of photos of the case set with the bezel off. -
Beautiful watch sir, the lighter is a a nice touch. Don't think that Bic's are period correct though!!!

If the 580's won't fit and they will fit gen spring bars, i 'll take them off your hands for what you paid for them.

My feelings are that Rolex is moving in that direction. i''m certain their marketing department is telling the designers to design "what the public wants right now" unfortunately, classic is in style for a long long time, fads are just that, they are all the rage today, tomorrow, they are as cold as ice. i certainly wouldn't want to tell Rolex what they should design, only time will tell if they are right or wrong. Another thing that is in play here, what someone in their 6th decade like me, finds "in style" may not be what a 20-40 year old would wear.

Very easy, put in your donation or membership amount. Say 25 USD when you fil lin the amount for the donation, use a comma as a seperator rather than a period. It will looki like this 25,00 Then put in your user name and password, everything else is the same as regular Paypal. Idf yo uwant to translate, copy the page into google translate open up google as your search engine type in "translate' google translate will be the first option that shows up.

I Asked this in one of the other threads, but will repeat here.Renewed my membership to VIP with Payza, now that we have Paypal how can I upgrade to Platinum?
-
yeah, they probably bring in a pallet full at a time and transit through the airport in Geneva or Zurich. What they meant to say is instead of "Made in Switzerland" it's actually "Made it to Switzerland"

One more vintage PP for the collection...
panerai153 replied to ubiquitous's topic in The Two R's Watch Reviews - Lani & Ubi
Man those are wonderful watches. These are the kind you keep to hand down to your sons and grandsons. Where in the world are you finding that mother lode of PP parts, dials and movements? -
Suppose we up renewed our VIP membership thru Payza , but now that Paypal is an option we want to further upgrade to Platinum?

Right, I doubt that the really big name watchmakers have anything but maybe bracelets, strap buckles, maybe a handful of other parts made outside Switzerland and/or the EU. that's why those guys are lobbying for the 60% of the value of the Watch, not the movement. they know that there are probably a whole lot of low to mid range watch makers that are buying almost everything in China, and possibly shipping the complete watch "kit" back to Switzerland, dropping in a movement and calling it "Swiss Made", or as automatico said, hang a picture of the Alps on the factory wall in China and call it a day!! These companies are riding the coattails of the big boys and the reputation of Swiss watches, all at a fraction of the cost!!

Until you become familiar with the different model numbers of a particular brand, You can always"google" that reference number provided you know the brand. If you are looking at posts in the Rolex forum, the numbers will always be Rolex numbers, same with Panerai, and some others. Omega uses such a long number system, practically everyone refers to each watch by its model name. If you want a good reference for Rolex, there are several pretty good reference books available, I would stay away from the 24.99 USD Iphone/Ipad app "100Years of Rolex" I bought it a couple of years ago, and it worked fine, when I went to the new Iphone 5, the program constantly crashes. Obviously they haven't updated it and done any "bug fixes" It would be difficult to create a list of rolex references, as there are hundreds. While there are probably 25 or so that are very popular, quite frequently an odd bird shows up. Mainly research, use this forum, and your computers search capabilities.

Tudor Watches To Return To US Market In 2013
panerai153 replied to GBOGH's topic in General Discussion
Would be nice to have a presence in the USA.Although, I'm not particularly a fan of the modern Tudors, who knows what will be coming down the pike later. -
I live in the deep south, normal summer humidity here is 70-90%. I have never had any problems with my reps that i wear outside and use when I'm working. I promise yoy when you're working outside here in mid summer, the temperature is in the mid to high 90's and the humidity is 85%, you are sweating like a hog, just walking around, much less doing anything physical. If A rep was going to get moisture inside, it would in those conditions.

bezel came with the case,it's from Ming Quy, the insert is from joeyB. he makes the most outstanding 6542 inserts available, and he's right here on RWG
