  1. Looks great. Hands are not much different than the genuine Tudors I payed 200 USD for a few weeks back.
  2. AFAIK Ocean 7 is using Sellita movements in their genuine watches. i believe this was done to make certain they had a good supply of movements in case ETA decided to cut off everyone except their own brands. My Ocean 7 LM7 Ploprof has the Sellita eqivelent of the ETA 2824-2
  3. Martyd3, I have one and I love mine, with some qualifications. Here are some of my pros/cons 1. It doesn't feel like a book, it took me a while to get into the "feeling" of not actually turning pages. This will go away after a couple of books 2. I would love a backlit screen, like my Iphone. you must have a secondary light source to illuminate the pages 3. Price. While the price of the device has fallen, the price of books are in a state of flux. While Amazon "promised" books for 9.99, quite frequently the early release Best Sellers are now going for 14.99-15.99. This price increase has incensed some hard core Kindle readers, especially in light of the fact that Amazon and Wal-Mart are in a book price war. I just bought a pre-release novel tonight and the Kindle price was 15.99 and the hard cover was 18.99! Of course you have to add a couple of bucks shipping to the hard cover. But you have a book, which leads us to number 4. 4. Cannot share, lend or sell. To me hard cover books have some intrinsic value. You can sell them, trade them or loan them to your friends. Unfortunately, the Kindle version is only for your Kindle or others you own i.e. You and your wife both have a Kindle, you can share the books, if they are both on the same account. 5. Portability, great for trips, because if you are in a place with cell service, you will never run out of books to read (just don't forget the charger!!)I used to take a book bag on every vacation with 4-5 novels ( I can read a novel cover to cover on a transatlantic flight) Now I just pre-load my Kindle with a bunch of books and fly away! 6. Some books are not available. Certain authors/publishers have not signed on, so if your favorite author has not signed a Kindle agreement, you will be forced to buy the hardcover anyway. I would crtainly do some research on Amazon to make sure the folks she likes are available on Kindle. I am an avid reader, and I bought the Kindle, because I felt that it would pay for itself after about 15-16 novels. Here is the math. At the time of purchase,Kindle books were 9.99 say 10 bucks to make it easy. The average Amazon or Barnes and Noble novel (Best seller released in the past 6 months) was around 27.00 with shipping and or taxes. approximately 17.00 difference. So if you divide 17.00 into 250.00 (Price of Kindle) you get 14.70 or 15. So after 15 novels, you would be saving money with the Kindle. Now that quite a few publishers are playing hardball, expect the prices to creep up. Even if they settle at 15-16 dolars you will still be saving money after around 25 Kindle books purchased. Woukld I buy it again, absolutely. My brother has the Barnes and Noble Nook, and he isn't as happy with it as I am with my Kindle. I'm intrigued with the Apple Ipad, but it's three times as expensive, and their book selection is nowhere near as large as Amazon's
  4. Personally, I would never expect this to become a "Forum rule" I believe that the rules governing the sale of your watch should be determined by you the seller. If you don't have any stipulations, that's fine, and your business. I prefer to lay everything out up front so no one has any surprises or is unhappy later. I sell everything with a 3 day money back guarantee. If the watch is not running properly, send it back to me in exactly the same condition it went out to you, and I will cheerfully refund your money. The shipping back is on the buyer. This is the case in almost 100% of every transaction return agreement I have ever seen.If both the buyer and seller understand the rules of the game, there shouldn't be any problems. that is if everyone abides by the agreement.
  5. IS the Rolex clone movement the CHS (Correct hand stack) movement?
  6. WHO DAT -------- How Bout those SAINTS It's been a long long haul for all of us down here who have been die hard Saints Fans, through thick and thin. I went to the first Saints game back over 40 years ago at the old "Sugar Bowl" stadium which was the stadium Tulane University used as well.We have lived through frustrating season after frustrating season. The Saints were the most creative losers in history! They could figure out how to blow a 3 TD lead with 5 minutes left in the game. In fact their famous "prevent Defense" became the Prevent us from winning defense. New Orleans is one of the most interesting and intriguing cities in the USA. After Katrina, it was widely thought that they were finished, but they are clawing their way back and hopefully this victory will be a positive catalyst for better things to come. Here is my Superbowl special.
  7. I think you are absolutely right. The watches I have sold have been well packed, in fact overpacked. Wrapped in bubble wrap, then packed inside a hard box with soft peanuts(foam, not styrofoam) and sealed with packng tape. I have received multiple watches from members as well as dealers inside a soft envelope, rattling around with a couple of wraps of bubble wrap! I have only had one problem, a genuine Doxa that was sent in perfect working order after a service by The Zigmeister, to a buyer who complained that the watch was not running. I gave him the option of refund or sending it back to The Zigmeister for a look see. It turned out some minor problem was evident that was easily fixed at no charge and the customer got his watch back and was very satisfied. He wanted the watch, and wasn't interested in a refund. In fact he paid for all the shipping to and back from The Zigmeister. If the customer complains, the best thing is to have him send the watch back for a refund. I like your idea of taking the caseback off and taking detailed movement photos. I think sometimes if the buyer sees these and knows you ahve photos there would be less chance of him "tinkering" with the watch. Here is problem one. I know that we have a lot of folks on this forum that are very proficient, and have done enough modding and movement work to be able to fix a movement. Unfortunately, there are a lot of others who THINK they know what to do, but lack the skills, tools and dexterity to work on a movement. These "tinkerers" want to get the watch to COCS specs and in the process, they screw up something. When this happens, it's easy to email the seller and tell him the watch arrived, but it's not running properly. Maybe what we need to say is "if you take the back off, the watch is yours" Honestly, i believe the best thing is to let the buyer know up front that you would prefer the watch returned if he isn't satisfied, and that you have movement photos to check the condition of the movement when it is returned. The second problem is beyond everyone's control, what happens to the watch once it is the clutches of the Postal service. Have you ever sat in an airplane and watched the baggage handlers load your luggage? Well, the Post Office is just the same. packages get tossed around, fall off racks or transport dollies, and even with a very well packaged watch, enough jarring may be enough to screw something up inside. Short of taking lani's approach which is wonderful, provided you have the financial resources to keep all of them, having a firm refund if not satisfied policy is the best way to go. If I had been able to afford to keep them all, i would have a really impressive collection of genuines, since I have been buying and selling watches since the late 1960's. I have had times when I had to sell some to buy more. Just a fact of life for me. I think most of the guys on the genuine forums that are buying and selling a lot have a 3 day return which I think is reasonable. If a watch is going to have a problem that is shipping related, or had the problem before, it will be evident within the 3 day time frame. If it ain't working to your satisfaction, don't try to fix it, send it back.
  8. It took me about 5 seconds on the second scroll through to see the reps. The 10 is not centered between the markers on each side. also the numbers a tad thicker and more defined. I will say the gas escape ring on your rep is centered better than any that I have seen thus far. If you change the insert to the more correct one, you will have a winnah!
  9. I would concur with Red, plus the movement is genuine (you wouldn't go this far with a Porsche and put a VW motor in it) Also bracelet. It's all genuine except the case.
  10. I doubt that someone would be crazy enough to post a rep on a genuine forum, at least not knowingly. How many franken and replica Rolex subs get by the watchful eyes of the Rolex Forum "Watch out" guys? Folks buy these watches, many with pretty good paperwork, firmly convinced that they are buying a genuine Rolex. It woulld be interesting to know just where this watch came from. personally, I would bet someone took a genuine 1680, stuck a fake dial on it and sold it for a bunch of money. If it was a Red Sub to start with , they probably sold the dial seperately as well.If the watch is indeed genuine, the owner can replace the dial and for another 1-1.5k have a real Red Sub!!
  11. I believe that all the old MBW 1665's had the same serial number. Other members who have one might want to weigh in on this, but it seems like thats from threads posted several years back. If all the serial numbers are the same, replacing the case wouldn't help. Possibly a earlier dial would be the solution. If you are going to get a case with a unique serial number, I think you would have to go the route of a yuki, NDtrading, etc. I believe that they will engrave a number of your choice on the case.I never considered this a problem, as the serial # is hidden by the end links, and I'm not going to let someone take my bracelet off to look!
  12. I very seldom visit AD's as I live in a rural area and most AD's here are for Casio and Timex! A Seiko is a high end watch around here. When I do go into one, I'm usually following my wife around who never met a jewelry store she didn't like! I probably would drop my rep in my pocket if I were going to ask to try on a genuine, otherwise, i would just leave it on and not flash it around. In my experiences over the years, most of the sales people, especially in stores that are selling watchs and jewelry, crystal, etc., are not at all up to speed on what they are selling. You probably know far more about the GMTIIC in the display case than the sales person does. And should you possibly encounter that rare bird who is something of a watch expert, even if he suspects you are wearing a rep he can't be really sure, especially if it a well modded one.He knows that calling you out will destroy his chances of ever selling you a watch. Good sales people are always going to put the potential sale first. If you came in with a Big Ben alarm clock strapped to your wrist with a piece of twine, the good salesman is going to say "Very nice clock sir, could I possibly sell you a proper strap for it"! So, my feelings are if you are self conscious about your rep, or you know from experience the folks in a particular store are really watch experts, slip it off and put it in your pocket. One place that I would NEVER wear a rep would be into one of the real specialty watch shops, especially those that buy and sell high end vintage watches. Several of those in every major city. Those folks are real experts, and I would bet that anyone who makes a living buying and selling vintage Rolex for instance can tell a replica DRSD or 1680 when you walk in the door. The sales person that can look at your DRSD dial and tell you its a MKIV, and the year it was manufactured, isn't going to be fooled by even the best rep.The nice thing about these shops is they are as passionate about watches as you are. If you go in and show some knowledge and are interested, most of these folks are a gold mine of information, plus you will see watches you only dreamed about, up close and personal.
  13. I'm not taking up for TTK in any way shape or form, but what he was doing with the MBW's was no different I'm sure, than anyone else who could source them at the time. In 2005-06 it was almost impossible to get an MBW unless you were a trusted member at the old RWG or TRC and had lots of posts, or you knew someone who could act as your intermmediary between you and some of the MBW sellers like Maria ,George and watchmaster. If they didn't know you, they wouldn't even respond to your emails ( provided you even had access to their Emails) Then along came Luckky (spelling may be incorrect, but older members will recognize who he is) He was selling MBW's on the forums for a while, delivering on time, good service, and then BAM, he left a bunch of folks high and dry took the money and disappeared. Back then the only payment method accepted was WU, so the folks who were scammed lost their money, no recourse. Neil was able to source MBW's and he supplied a need. I never bought one from him, as I was fortunate enough to have enough "Creds" on the forums to buy from George and watchmaster, but I 'm sure for quite a few members he was their source for an MBW. Back then, the supply of MBW's ,which were so far superior to anything else it wasn't even close, was almost non-existent. You could put a used MBW on the sales forums, at a reasonable price, and it wouldn't last an hour!I would bet over the years there were 100+ threads on the old RWC, "How can I get a MBW?" For anyone who was into Rolex Subs or SD's the MBW was a "Grail". It was for all practical purposes the only thing around that you could use as the basic watch for a really good modding project. Neil, like all the other sellers knew that and they charged what they thought the market would bear. No one was holding a gun to the head of the buyers, most everyone who bought one was happy to have a source of MBW's.
  14. Great tutorial. That is a beautiful band, much nicer than the Black/Grey that everyone was using before.
  15. I was under the impression that the "new" upgraded V5 would be out around the 3rd week in January and be ready to ship in February. Obviously they are still having problems with the incorrect dial, Gas lock ring, etc. I believe that there are quite a few members who ordered at the tail end of the Ultimate DSSD, who are still waiting on this model, as well as folks who returned their Ultimate and will get this one as a replacement. Updates would be appreciated. Thanks
  16. WOW, That is one great watch. I really like what you have done to yours over the V3. The V3 is a very nice watch, but they have done the usual Rep thing 1 step forward, and if not two steps back, at least a couple sideways. You solved the 2 steps sideways and advanced several steps! Beautiful. Boy would this one make them nervous over on TRF!!
  17. J, That is a great looking watch. IMHO, I prefer the Tudor to the Daytona, for two reasons, first of all it's not an "Icon" among Rolex WIS, so they probably would never notice any small variations from the genuine, the second is it has a date function which I find essential. Beautiful project, and wonderful cooperation which makes this forum so great.
  18. Thanks very much for the comprehensive review. From what i could see the WM9 is pretty darn good right out the box, and will probably be fine for 98-99% of the folks who buy the watch. for the other 1 to 2%, adding a genuine insert and possibly a genuine bracelet would be put this one into the Super franken catagory. I don't have one of these, I'm one of the many patiently awaiting the WM9 SD, but if I were looking for a modern sub, this would be the one. Another thing that I believe is going to make this one a rare bird down the line, is the plain rehault. my impression is all the Subs to come will have the rehault engraving, including the ones sold directly by WM9. Adding the engraving is another source of problems, as the rep factories have never gotten it right thus far. Another "Tell" and one that fixing is probably extremly difficult to impossible. Great watch, great review.
  19. Great looking mods your friend has done. not my cup of tea, as I'm a purist at heart, but open minded as well. I certainly don't want to be misconstrued as taking the side of the RSC's and their policies. I agree that Rolex as well as all the other "luxury goods" manufacturers are selllig a whole lot of sizzle with a little steak! Rolex probably has around 500-1K max in a 16610 Sub which sells for 5k. That's a pretty darn big markup, but folks buy the heck out of them. And what they/you are buying is a very good quality mass produced watch. Rolex produces over 200,000 watches per year. I doubt that they have thousands of watchmakers turning out totally hand built watches in those numbers. As far as the RSC's not servicing vintage, that is a partial truth. Some folks are still getting their vintage Rolexes serviced at RSC's, it depends on the service center, and the watch. Essentially what Rolex said several years ago, was that they were rapidly running out of parts for the vintage watches. Another thing that led to this decision, was the nature of vintages. Rolex doesn't want to send out a watch that they aren't positively certain about it's watertightness. That's hard to do with older more brittle plactic crystals, old seals and gaskets, etc. Also every watch coming in has a does and don't list that is a mile long. If by chance an employee doesn't see the instructions, and replaces the dial or hands, or polishes the case, against the customers wishes, Rolex catches lots of Hell from the client It's a lot easier to just say, "We don't service that particular model.
  20. All the dealers on this forum are trusted dealers. Go to their watches for sale section and look at what they have on offer. most have links to their websites with many more watches available. Also read the reviews. Use the search function to see what others have to say about what you are looking for.
  21. Not sure about that, I'm a paid up customer (Sea Dweller)and I don't have a magic code to get access. I believe that a lot of folks on this forum, including some who posted here that also have a "skin in this game" as well. I think that if you have some of the old page links saved, you can access them, but if not, they are inaccessible. If George is letting out info on updates, I'm definitely not in the loop! That's the reason for this thread. I knew going in that WM9 was having problems with parts and suppliers on other projects, so I invested in the SD knowing it would be a while. Unfortunately, George stated some release dates that came and went. I'm not too concerned, I've waited on watches before,i just wanted to know if someone on the forum had more updated info.
  22. Keep looking! No mention of model # which is strange. Dial has been redone and not very well. Repainting the submariner Red does nothing, but decrease the value of the watch. Many more, better watches with better provenence on the genuine forums (vintage Rolex market has 2-3 Tudor subs almost all the time. Nice watches from trusted dealers. Don't know what your getting on Ebay.
  23. Incredible!! Interestingly, there are some real nice and helpful folks on that forum, unfortunately none of them contributed to that 20 page diatribe!!What is incredible is their basic lack of knowledge about the one thing they are all talking about, Rolex watches. Sort of reminds me of a saying we have around here about some folks who aren't what they seem. "Big hat, no cattle" Most of those folks are amazingly ignorant (maybe to be politically correct, Uninformed) about Rolex watches. Why should they be afraid? All the idiots have to do to substantiate the authenticity of the watch is take the caseback off. Even with a Rolex clone, the difference is apparent. Of course if you are an AD, and you don't even have a caseback opener, then what do you expect. Essentially, what has happened is these guys have been existing in a vacuum , totally oblivious to the world around them. Pretty obvious from some of the responses. "Do they make fakes of other watches (Other than the DSSD)", "It's a good thing they aren't faking older vintage models" DUH!! As By-tor said, most of these pathetic wannabees are Wa nkers They are brand snobs of the worst kind. I encountered the same types when I frequented the genuine Panerai forums years ago. Most of those A-holes were so pathetic it was almost laughable. They work in some menial job, living at home, eating their mom's cooking, she cleans their room, does their laundry, so her little "Precious" can save his money to buy that Rolex he always dreamed about. Little Precious truly believes that when he gets his DSSD, he will become and instant success, immediate promotion from stock clerk to supervisor, and then to Vice President, girls will find him irresistible (Most run and hide when he heads their way now), but that Rolex will change his life.Sad ,sad, sad. What these guys don't realize is the replicas that were pictured on that thread, were for the most part a couple of generations back. The newest ones would really blow them away. I would love to sneak a photo of Lani's AR 'ed Rolex GMT11C into that thread. They would all have a heart attack. One guy said, they will never get the AR right. Wake up guys, we have. The bottom line to this whole discussion, and the entire genuine forum rant about reps boils down to this. They are terrified that if reps are perfect, the market for genuine watches will collapse. Why buy a genuine for 8k when you can get a rep that is absolutely indestinguishable for 500 dollars? All of those guys are banking on the Rolex market staying strong and their watch appreciating, not depreciating.
  24. X, Are you getting this info from George, from some secret backdoor to the website, or is this speculation based on the visible progress at the time of the website going down? Thanks
  25. Lani, This sounds like a noob question, but when you send the crystal in to Chief, you don't send the cyclops, correct? Just the crystal.
