  1. Good advice Mezzanine! I might add that if you do choose to go after genuine bracelets or straps. Occasionally, you can get a good deal on Ebay. I was able to pick up a great deal on a genuine Panerai alligator strap there. Remember to be vigilant of fakes and choose wisely when buying from the Bay.
  2. There are only three crown position on the ETA as well as the Asian 21j (DG-2813) movements. The first is the winding position, the second is the date set, and the third is the hour/minute set. At no time do the gears disengage completely even when the crown is screwed in so, your movement is working exactly as designed. Winding as you screw in the crown is nothing to be concerned about. In fact, many owners regularly manually wind their watches slowly 20 or so revolutions to build up the power reserve. Cleaning and lubricating the threads on the crown and tube is a good idea and should help with the baulking crown tightening. Using a Q-tip is wise as spraying oil directly onto the tube and crown may allow some flow into the movement which could cause more serious problems.
  3. I'm convinced. The finish and engine turning on the movement is not something you would likely find on the ETA clone movement. It looks as if Jay has made a good buy from his manufacturer and is passing along some of the savings to customers. It appears to me that this is a great opportunity for anyone wanting an ETA Steelfish to pick up one at a substantial savings.
  4. The Planet Ocean 45.5mm is a great choice. I'm certain that you will get a good watch this time. There is plenty of information about modding this model so you should be able to get the PO in the final shape that you want without too much difficulty. I love my PO and you are going feel the same about yours.
  5. I have this watch and although it should have the rose gold hands and indices rather than the yellow gold, it is a good rep and is one of my favorites. I had Joshua replace the strap shown with one of his genuine alligator straps with white stitching because the gen watch is illustrated with that strap. I have received many compliments on my "Omega" from associates and there has never been a question regarding it's authenticity. I should note that Joshua's site says that this is an ETA 2892 movement which it is not. When questioned, Joshua will tell you that it is an Asian (Seagull) copy of the 2892. As far as my experience is concerned, the movement is a good and solid performer. If you like the watch, I would suggest that you purchase it. Although it might be considered by some as a bit pricey, it is a beautiful piece that you will be proud to wear and own.
  6. I have ordered several items from him and he has always come through. Although, it takes about a week to receive most orders and his shipping rates are somewhat "off the wall". I did have a situation similar to yours in that my item was shipped to an incorrect address. After several emails all was cleared up and I received the item. Good luck, I'm sure all will work out well.
  7. I had the same problem with my UPO. Ordered the gen parts and found the same situation as CribOrgman. Andreww has the solution. I found that the difference in the case hole and the threaded gen tube to be very slight. I coated the threads of the tube with Gorilla glue and inserted it into the case hole. I then clamped the case and the tube together because Gorilla glue expands as it cures and I wanted it to expand against the case rather than push the tube out. After curing over night, a little cleaning of any excess glue around the case tube with a Dremel wire brush and the job is complete. The gen tube seems to be firmly locked into place and working great.
  8. I suspect that you are right about it being a bad "fake". O.J. is slick enough to stash his genuine watch and hand over a "Canal St." Sub to Goldman.
  9. I have no idea that it would fit the rep but it does appear to come with the pearl in the photo. However, at a cost of $189 US it would probably be wiser to purchase a new UPO.
  10. I just diassembled my UPO and have found that the case tube hole is slightly larger than the Omega 090SST1232 case tube. It is close enough that I have applied some Gorilla Glue to the tube and clamped it to the case. Gorilla Glue expands as it cures and appears to have formed a solid bond. I hope that this will provide a permanent solution but, time will tell. I am sure that a good epoxy glue would work as well.
  11. If it is really "flopping" from side to side, I would think that a new crown would be in order. I think that a slight amount of movement is OK but, if it is wobbling about when pulled to the time setting position, something is wrong with your crown. As to the replacement of the UPO crown and tube with genuine parts, you will either have to glue the smaller gen tube into the case opening or glue or weld a thin sleeve into the case hole and thread it to the size of the gen tube.
  12. That is about right, Bazz. I don't have a cailper to get exact but I would imagine that the hole in the case is closer to 2mm. Simonsev, do you think that your contact at Cousins could get the information about the proper size tap need to thread the case hole?
  13. I also have a 45.5 PO that has the same stripped tube that is being discussed here. I ordered a new tube from Ofrei and as others have pointed out it is a threaded tube. However, unlike others, I have found that the hole in the case is slightly smaller than the threaded case tube. The Omega tube measures about 2mm. If I am able to determine the correct tap to use, it should be simple to drill and tap the case for the gen tube. If anyone knows the correct size tap or can obtain that information, it would be most beneficial if you would pass it along.
  14. I cases such as this, it is often better to take the path of least resistance. There appears to be a bit of doubt as to the source of the damage to the watch which makes this a matter of who do you choose to believe. I would recommend that you pay the $20 and move on. You are likely to generate more problems by fighting this than you will solve.
  15. If you have no intention of making modifications to the watch, I think that you will be well served by Trusty's less expensive version. Consider that 99%+ of the people who see it most likely don't know what it is it the first place. Unless you are into modding and have a desire to spend the dollars necessary to make the MBK/MBW a close second to the gen, keep your money and enjoy the Trusty Sea Dweller.
  16. The best way to resolve the problem is disassemble the watch and bracelet. Strip away all of the paint and find a local powder coater. Powder coating will provide you with a smooth and hard scratch resistant finish that will not irritate your skin. Parkerizing as applied to military weapons might be another alternative.
  17. Have a look at the Tag Aquaracer. It is about as accurate as it gets and is next on my wish list. Photo borrowed from Perfect Clones.....
  18. Good going Cableguy! It's a great feeling to accomplish something like that. Getting the date to line up properly in the dial window can be a trying experience. Be aware that this accomplishment can lead to other such daring acts
  19. Your MBW, I presume. There is nothing to be nervous about. The Zigmeister has earned the reputation that he has for a good reason. You can be assured that the work to your watch will be well done in a timely manner. Just be patient and you will be rewarded
  20. I have a PO with the same problem. My watch has a case number on the inside of the case back. It is 168.1652 but, it may not be legitimate. I also need a case back gasket. Does anyone know if the Offrei case back gasket will work on the rep? He charges $9.50 plus shipping and it would be nice to know if I would be able to use it before ordering.
  21. Well said! PP's avatar is a bit too far off center to be acceptable as well as his screen name. It removes all doubt about his mental condition
  22. I am not a NASCAR fan but, I did learn today that the Army, Navy, and now the NG are all full or part sponsors! Perhaps as Pug suggested, the military units have an advertising budget and the demographics justify the expense. It can cost several million dollars to keep a NASCAR team in operation for a year. I suppose that in the grand scheme of things, that is small potatos in the total military budget.
  23. While reading the morning paper I noticed that Dale Earnhardt Jr. was getting a new number and new sponsors for his race car. I noticed that one of the sponsors was the U.S. Army National Guard. The thought then occurred to me that if the National Guard is sponsoring this car then the U.S. taxpayer is picking up the tab for this! Taxpayers supporting a NASCAR team, can this actually be the case? If so, I think that I'm going to get ticked
  24. Sorry....Florida is full, try Alabama
  25. I have one on order from Joshua. The newest version sells for $230 which seem like a big number for a quartz replica but, this watch is dead on. I play a lot of golf and have been considering buying one of these since they came out but didn't pull the trigger until I read Keyhole's review. It appears that with its light weight and quartz movement, it should be just the ticket for golfers. Now, if I can just resist ordering one of those new Aquaracers.
