  1. Yea I really have a soft spot for the 928 gts as well .. give my left nut for a 94' with a 5 speed ( rare as hell ) .. almost bought a 90' GT with the 5 speed a few years ago but was silly and bought a Skyline : P that was fun for a while but i always went back to my Pcars .. love the idea of the boxter but dont like the car and i hate saying that because it is a fantastic car and one of the most reliable sports cars out there .. i just hate cabrio's !! the 924 isnt even a porsche technically .. it was suposed to be a VW in the beginning and its using a Audi engine ... the 944 though is true porsche top to bottom .. and i love them ! lol a lot of people hate them and see them as poor mans porsche's but i have a soft sport for them as well .. and the fact that mine only has 16k original kilometers on it and was brought in from germany by my grandfather in 82' ( model year before it was released in northamerica) so it has sentimental value : ) .. anyways didnt mean to jack the thread on Porsche talk : P .. but what do you have in store for next year? super curious now .. as for the merc turbos i doubt they made them inhouse .. more than likely KKK makes them or IHI but its odd for a turbo to go boom like that .. how many miles on the car ?
  2. good ole German cars : P .. i feel your pain .. well sort of .. the Merc's unfortunately are plagued with far more problems than the other german car makers .. they are acutally far down on the list of reliable cars in recent years due to a lot of out sourcing electrical components from eastern europe and asia.. but as for electrical issues .. this is a german car thing even the german made electronics seem to love to fail .. and its never anything big always small annoying things and 95% of the time is a soldering issue lol they cant seem to get that right .. my Audis always had the odd electrical issue ( bad solders ) but never mechanical failure .. my Porsches hmm dont think i have had any issues with any of them other than a crank bearing in my all motor 3.1L 944 and well yea bad solder in the older ones : P it was my fault though with the crank bearing .. but my 997.2 carrera C4S has not had one issue since the day i got it and i do drive it like i stole it.. : P .. Sorry to hear about the problems you are having .. who does Merc use for the turbos on the CDI's ?
  3. Hope any of you in the Eastern states being hit are doing well .. Being someone who lives out in the middle of the north Atlantic with 3 different ocean currents colliding around my island we are no strangers to very high winds (100+ several times a year) and flooding is the norm so , us Newfoundlanders have adapted to hard weather but for those unprepared or never seen this type of weather it's bad stuff .. Stay inside and wait it out , that flooding most likely has strong undertow .. It's not worth dying or getting injured trying to go somewhere.
  4. When I try to pm zig it says that he does not accept Pm's from me .. Odd I have never done anything to him before .. Hope he does not have me blocked or something like that
  5. apparently he will not accept messages from me ... anyone else have this problem ?
  6. ahh yes i forgot about him .. too bad i did not think of this a week ago.. I am offshore in and out of nova scotia (Halifax) right now for another week thanks guys!
  7. hey guys, I bought a vintage daytona from a well known member and all is good with him so no blame there .. I recieved the watch and it winds but the seconds do not run nor will the balance wheel move freely .. so me being the tinker i am .. I am good with the 28xx eta movements and 6498 and 97 .. can handle working on them easy. but this 7750 i believe it is I am not to up on. i have started into it and i have hit a wall and dont want to go any further with it .. so far the only parts off are the weight assem and one of the pusher arms is out .. the rest is intact .. looking for someone that will make this work for me again .. it didnt pay a lot for it .. $2XX or something but i love the look of the watch.. not even sure how accurate it is ( i dont know daytonas) i am a sub and pam fella... would love to pay someone to take it and rework it and make it work correctly i know it will cost but i feel i would like to make it work again .. does anyone know of anyone in canada to take it and put it back to working order and service it for me ... need this done fairly quickly .. I am back onshore later this week and i can send it right away .. cheers CP Email or PM me cletjohnpenney (at) Gmail (dot) com
  8. how do i get my hand son one of these .. love the quality in the pictures.. looking for one asap : ) need it before the 11th of july lol..
  9. Very nice piece ! I love it ... I have an older DSN 195 se and it has the same moats ... I was thinking of a relume that would flow into the moats to solve the issue. But I'm insure if te indices and numerals will be too chunky after the relume.. I'm replacing the dial anyways so I may see if I can get zig to relume my dial and see how It turns out. Anyone know his contact info ? I'm in his neck of the woods for some training starting next Sunday and if he isn't too busy I'd like to get some work done while I'm there .. Either way your watch is seriously beautiful .. It seems like the older less accurate reps of the Panerai's are more appealing to me these days.. I love that blue dial on the Ti case .... Cheers ! CP Let me know if you ever want to sell it ;p
  10. Just stumbled across this thread I post a while back ... Thanks for for the input guys .. I know it does not compare to the current 1:1 or would even be able to come close to 1:1 .. But I love it and want to keep it .. It was bought 7 years ago and cost a lot at the time .. The movement is gen eta 2836-2 .. The rotor weight I added not long ago and that's about all that has been done with it .. So you say 2002 it could match up to with the looks of it .. I have a gen insert for it and a gen crystal if this one can't be recessed a little .. Is the dial that bad ? If so what should I look for ? Did this era have super lume an was it blue ? I have a gen 704 crown and 24-703 tube that just went in the other day ... I want to reshape the CG's but unsure of where they need work ... I'm quite capable of doing it myself ( very confident with working with metals , worked with all sorts of metals and shaping custom intricate parts for my cars with pretty crude tools ;p i think i have a bit of a gift for working with metals and being and engineer helps with the whole what works with why and how) just unsure where they need work to fit this era .. Plus I have to remove the 18k stamp and the other stamp .. How about the hands ? They seem thin to me ? Thanks again guys ! Cleat.
  11. Where are you located ? I know I have had things stuck in customs coming into Canada for upwards of three weeks ... I just had one there for a week ... Almost two , it wasn't held for screening just not processed ... For some reasons some entry points of the canadian customs are very very busy. My item was accepted at customs on the 6th of this month and only cleared on the 19th . If your tracking states it is being reviewed by customs then it may still just be in processing .. If it were an issue it would have another mesg. I've been there and lost a few items over the years .. Hang In there I'm sure it will clear .. The dealers useually wrap the watch head well and customs will not open that .. They are only aloud to open suspicious items ( ie: weapons , possible illegal drugs ....) useualy with watches if they open the packages they will look quickly and that's it .. If its wrapped well they won't go any further than opening the box becUse they are not aloud to remove any protective covering without permission or suspicion .. I only know this because a good friend of mine works with customs and I like to know as much of the ins and outs as possible .. Long post yes but I hope this helps a little ... This goes for items going into the united states as well .. US customs used to put their customs agents in the same condo bld. I have a place in Trinidad and I've had conversations with a few of those guys on occasion as well. Cheers CP
  12. This is the funniest thread i have seen here yet : P .. first DSN is a very great guy to deal with ... i have bought a lot of parts and watches from him and only once had a problem ... i did not post it ... i emailed him and he sent me a replacment and extras to make up for it ... you cannot ask for a better person to deal with... as for your incabloc woes ... incabloc a type of spring in the spring system designed many many years ago... the setup you have is a newer type of spring but still an "incabloc" shock system..DSN did not lie when he said it was an incabloc shock system .. because it is !!! it is just a newer Novodiac spring (better spring) so you ended up with a newer better spring system and your sooking about it ... if the look of the old incabloc spring is so important ... buy an asian copy because they all look like the old incabloc... and if its because you think it is a better more accurate system or if you can actually tell the difference when the case back is on .. then my friend you are more of a seasoned watch enthusiast than most of us here so what in the hell are you doing buying reps lol .... your lucky you bought from a dealer like DSN that actually sends you a swiss movement when they say they are and not an asian clone ...... sorry guys i know i do not have many posts here ... i mostly read and buy parts and watches from you guys ... lol but i had to chime in here ... it was just too silly not to comment... cheers !
  13. thanks ! i have a pearl .. i know this one is bad... im going to resess the insert and work on the crystal height. so i need a dial badly...
  14. i could put lug holes in it if need be ... just wondering what era it would fit best ? and what parts are wrong or any idea of the maker as i bought this long before i was into rep forums. i bought 7 years ago and it was supposed to be the best rep at the time .. i just dont know what it needs to fit what ever sub its supposed to replicate.. i know it is in the last 25 years but what is it missing ? is it a decent rep or a total flop ... its a great watch either way with regards to time keeping and build quality .. i just want to start to refresh it and turn it into what it is supposed to look like .. i have looked at many dials and hands and cases and i cannot figure out what parts are wrong .. because i see one post with a dial that looks almost exact to this one but apparently it is way off .. then i see a GEN and the dial is so close. I know the CG area needs work and i have to remove the 18k on the case.. but what would this be a good base for ? a lot of the newer reps i can tell for the most part the changes it needs ... but this is very old when it comes to the most modern reps .. like i said it was bought 7 years ago. thanks CP
  15. I bought this watch about 7 or so years ago, i dont know how accurate or what era to place it in, or mods to make it more correct. it has an ETA 2836-2 movement with rolex markings. the fit and finish of the watch is amazing for what i paid .. it keeps time as well now as it did 7 years ago. its within 2 or 3+/- sec / day. if there are spots that need work please point them out. i love this watch, its been my daily since i bought it ...aside from the last two years of panerai's ( it gets addicting ). I feel like i need to give the watch the parts it needs to be as close to perfect as it can because it has served me well. It has been a work horse .. it fell into the prop shaft tunnel on a coast guard ship, into the bilge and survived : ) , it has been soaked in hydraulic fluid and every chemical/grease or crud you can get into in my field of work almost every day for since i have owned it. still running and how its supposed to. its never been opened by anyone but me and has never been serviced or regulated and still spot on. my only true complaint is that it has [censored] poor lume and the CG needs work. please give me feedback on it. I want to give this watch the little extras it needs as it has serviced me well and probably will until it finally fails. thanks in advance ! CP
  16. Etaswiss.com has nothing on the site other than a few lower end Swiss movement watches ... Ie : invicta .. Did I miss something ? Thanks
  17. Hey guys , Looking to pull the trigger on a 390 because I can't get the pictures out of my head. They look amazing ! Is there only one maker currently ? I know the dealers have different straps available ... What I am getting at is .. Who has this "the one" 390 rigt now that I see pics of and hear the raves about how well it's made and how close to gen it is .. Who ? I useually buy from josh .. But I hear his straps for the 390 are not good . I want the good quality strap and best 390 out now .. And pick up a gen strap in a few months when fla. I know long post .. Sorry .. Just realy want a 390 and want the right one .. Cheers CP
  18. very nice ! how would one get his hands on this movement and case ?
  19. ahh i see and thank you for directing me to this reply... yea i found out after a little research my dial is actually an old DSN dial with crystaly lume applied .. it looks kind of cool but i truly love your FGD dial .. well your whole watch !!!! I have been doing a lot of research and only now starting to build my own pam's .. i really appreciate your PM directing me to this as it is very useful knowledge ! Like i said I have some old school case sets that i have reshaped to Pre-V .. kind of rough as a first try but its all by hand ; P ... I used a H factory CG and used the lever from an old (6 years old) rep and installed it into the H-fac CG and reshaped the contour flair on the top to a more rounded shape like the pre-v's... it turned out quite well.. either way i can see myself spending a lot of time on the panerai section here looking for help and pointers ( not that i ahve not been here a lot, just will ne making more of a presence) ... once i assemble the 201A i have in the works now im going to post .. i know there are flaws ( dial and hands ) but ill be looking for feedback on the case work.. Im in the process of ordering a 201a and a 202a case set from david sen right now and just bought two unitas 6497's for the projects ... ill have to put up like you said a WTB for the dials ... is there any way to get my hands on FGD stuff direct ? does he stock any stuff or only limited production runs ? Ohh and if i forgot to mention .... i absolutely love how your time piece turned out.. cheers! Clet
  20. very nice work !!! I am currently building my own 201/A but i have an older FGD dial. it does not look like a well manicured dial, the indices are kind of crystaly lume and jagged like the Gen 201a but it isnt the correct color for the lume "reaction" that occured in the early 201's .My case is an old old old rep case completely reshaped with the low bezel like the gen unlike the newer 40deg chamfer on ther current reps that are correct for all of the post 97' watches.. the Pre-V hands i have are kind of off white more on the yellowish side.. when i see your watch lol im thinking i may have took the wrong approach to my project. I have to say you have built an amazing watch here !!! how do i get my hands on the FGD stuff ? I have a lot of it but i bought from others..... is there a website ? i know hes a member but i need some parts : ) ... also needing a non roller CG to reshape for the pre-v contour. cheers ! and congrats on the amazing build !
  21. I picked up joshes 5512 a few weeks ago and was half [censored] when I saw the POLEX on the end and 5513 not 5512 ... Other than that rs a great watch ! .. I think the CG needs work but I'm afraid I'll ruin it for the '65+ look I'm going for "a la McQueen" not a fad person just been a McQueen fan since I was a child .. Anyways the point of my post .. I always go on tangents lol sorry anyways , so the 5513 case and POLEX signifies a good case ?
  22. I love the Porsche Design stuff.... i have 3 Porsche design watches and wear them all the time .. love the flat 6 but it does not fit right on my wrist .. i wear the "limited 911" as a daily wear... god knows how many other random Porsche Design items around the house ..... my mouse for one lol : P hmmm a lot of stuff except clothing .. think thats a little over the top .. i do have a martini racing subtle looking polo but no crest on it .. and an adidias PD jacket .. also very subtle no crest ... im a huge Porsche lover so pretty much everything i have has to do with porsches in some way or another.. when i visit my parents a few times a year i pop by the Porsche Design store in the mall in Aventura,FL and Champion in Pompano Beach : ) drool... before the question comes ... yes ! i do own ... and drive ....since i started driving ive had em...I am a 3rd generation Porsche enthusiast ... so its kind of in my blood : P ...
  23. how much for this service on a sinn u1 ? tks CJP
  24. sorry to but in but what would be an example of a good case here for mods ? the $218 version of the 1680 red sub on perfect clones ?
