  1. Are you sure you have pulled the crown all the way to the time set position? It probably requires more strength than you think. (This doesn't mean you need to use pliers for that). Pull it with your fingernail until you hear another click. Not saying that your watch isn't broken, but there's a (small) possibility that you're not pulling strongly enough.
  2. dluddy's watch looks like the good old MBW 1680 to me. Gen crown obviously. A rep classic, I've owned one too.
  3. I've been wearing pretty much the same watches lately. My GMT (now in double), and the Aquaracer. These will probably see the most wrist time during the weekend as well.
  4. Seriously, not so much... compared to others. I tend to buy reps of the moderately priced gens (steel Rolex, Omega, TAG, Breitling).
  5. What model of Speedmaster Date you're referring to? If it's this one, no rep exists. I recall this was smaller watch, about 38mm if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps that's one reason why rep factories think it wouldn't be that popular.
  6. Thanks guys. I think this could be the correct time to get one of these (if you ever will). It might be too late soon. Precious Time sold 150 or 200 of these to the membership, but said it's impossible to get this model anymore. This just popped up in the sales section and I reacted fast. I'm sure there will be more available through member trades. According to Angus the factories aren't going to concentrate on the 16710 anymore (now that it's out of production). The dealers will probably still have the 16710 reps on sale, but the reps will be just the that conical/wokky sh*te. This same factory made the Noobmariner, that outstading YM (see bklm's review) and Explorer II (the old amazing version). I wish they'd done the new SeaDweller too. PS: If you don't know how to do the mods, get the "Retro" version by Joshua. It's very good out of the box (save the rehaut thickness). The old TW Best versions are good bases as well. But not as good as this (imho).
  7. Outstanding work! That's mighty good looking Submariner. I wish I had 1/10 of your skills.
  8. My first question/post at TRC was "How can I contact Eddie Lee?" Then I sent him lots of stupid newbie questions, which he answered patiently (all of them). Thanks Eddie. Congrats TRC!
  9. Thanks mate. Just for the record: I didn't remove the crown & stem to modify the crown guards. I was going to, but I couldn't find a 1.2mm screwdriver from anywhere (to release the stem). So I bought extremely thin hand file, unscrewed the crown to the time set position and carefully filed the insides, using only the tip of the file. There was enough space to just straighten the inside guards. Here's my tool: Here's the cg's. They're pretty much spot on for a 16710 now. I'm not sure if I'm the first one who modded the cg's this way. Here's how they look unmodified on this rep model (photo by RobbieG). Way too thick and triangular. Also notice the dull bezel with smooth teeth. That is a "must" modification for this rep. It improves the overall look a lot, although you couldn't really "spot" it easily.
  10. Thanks fellas. Now I need to buy the Explorer II again. Or perhaps I should get yet another GMT. All black... to complete the trilogy.

  12. ETA 2836-2. Stephane owns the correct stack version with genuine dial. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=55915 The watch needs mods, but this might be the best base Rolex ever (along with the old version ExpII). The crystal & rehaut thickness look amazing. I'm referring to this area: Replicating this properly has been negleted on most Rolex replicas, and I think it's very important detail. At least for me. PS: I have no idea if this watch is still in production. Precious Time can't source it any longer. I was lucky to find another one.
  13. This extremely rare "Noob" GMT rep was for sale at RWG by Raimondo68. I was amazed that nobody grabbed it, because the price was great. This and Explorer II from the same factory have amazing SELs, correct date mag, exceptionally good rehaut thickness and depth. Best I've ever seen (for the GMT). Sorry for the asolutely crap photo. I didn't have decent lighting. It also has virtually perfect dial (gen on the right). The crown guards are bad for this model, which require some easy mods. I had another replacement bezel with sharp teeth from bklm, replaced the bad insert and I modified the crown guards myself. Now I have two of these beauties, and don't have to exchange the bezels anymore. Couldn't be happier. Next: Genuine crown(s).
  14. Beautiful. I'm far from a vintage Rolex expert, but isn't the date mag a bit oversized for this one? Either way, the Orange hand is awesome.
  15. Thanks vic. I'm not a Rolex expert though. Ubiquitous, Eunomians and Nanuq are experts. I'm just a fan. I know the modern Rolexes (GMT, ExpII, Sub, SD) quite well, but the vintages... not so much.
  16. Nice Coke vic! And so many nice pics. GMT is the finest Rolex ever made. It's actually quite amazing that the 1675's haven't become more collectible than they are. While I understand the attraction of the DRSD and red 1680, they are no match to 1675. GMT is much more fascinating watch (imho). I think buying one now could be a good investment in the long run.
  17. Oyster definitely. Original or not, I don't like the Jubilee on a GMT. My old man had his GMT on a folded Oyster. How about that? It's flimsy as hell though... but SO "Rolex".
  18. The TW model looks good as well, but Angus' version is the best out there. Read this review (it's the same watch). http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=52401
  19. A few that come to mind... SFSO has superior AR. TAG Link has superior bracelet. "Noob" GMT Master II has amazing, 99% perfect dial. See the rep vs. gen comparison HERE.
  20. Another great rep vs. gen comparison Gio! Thanks mate, much appreciated!
  21. I agree with Jet and Pugs. Nice rep, but definitely not a "super rep". There are too many issues with it. Pearl, bezel, crown guards, and bad SELs aside, I can't get over the rehaut profile. It doesn't seem to bother the membership that much, but personally... I simply can't get over it, it looks nothing like the gen. Maybe it's not that bad "in the flesh" though. Here's the King's earlier rep (it was only available with gen movement), which is superior to this released one in every possible way (besides the maxi-dial). I hope they'll release a 2892 version with this case... it's absolutely brilliant. I'm just afraid that the case used in the pictures was genuine. Somebody should ask King.
  22. Magnum (Tom Selleck's) GMT Master... with the only real color combo for the Rolex purists: Pepsi.
