  1. Haven't had any problem yet. Only ordered one rep from Davidsen so far. Shipping was a little slow, but not unreasonable. I have received about 22 reps using EMS. No problems yet.
  2. "See, honey, you won't miss those balls at all!"
  3. here's a goody from Japan.
  4. Had the same problem with the coronet falling off on a Datejust. I took it to a jeweler friend of mine to figure out how to fix it. Welding was out of the question, so we tried a little epoxy. I don't know what brand he used but he uses it to set stones in jewelery. It seems to be OK so far, but also opening the clasp from the side helps too. It seems like the thing is a press fit. There appears to be a post on the coronet with a metal 'shield'? wrapped around it. I figure that the shield part wasn't thick enough to mate correctly with the hole in the bracelet. It's a tricky proposition, since you're always going to apply pressure to the coronet to open the bracelet. I have a feeling that the epoxy will fail eventually in the long run. But replacement rep bracelets aren't that expensive. Maybe they'll fix this flaw after they fix the two VII's instead of one VII and one VIII on the Datejust dial.
  5. PVD looks great. I like the greyness of the color, nice matte finish, too. Can't wait for the next run of B&R.
  6. Hats off to Davidsen for making the effort.
  7. Great review. Unfortunately, now I find that I need yet another watch. Perhaps it will inspire me to dust off the old 928 and put that thing on the road.
  8. It seems a pair of enterprising elderly New Yorkers came up with an interesting scam. One of their roommates had just died with an uncashed Social Security check in the mailbox. Not wanting the money to be unclaimed, and possibly living on a fixed income, one of the gents tried to cash the deceased's check at the local check cashing parlor. Unfortunately, the proprietor wouldn't cash the check without seeing the person to whom it was issued. Not a problem. They put the dead guy in an office chair, and wheeled him back down the street to cash the check, apparantly hoping that the proprietor wouldn't notice that THE GUY WAS DEAD. One of New York's Finest, enjoying a meal in a restaurant, noticed this unusual behavior and called his buddies at the local precinct, and the alleged scam artists were arrested. It just goes to show you what some folks will do to get their hands on a couple bucks. I wonder what they were charged with.
  9. Swiss, blue dial. 894788
  10. So I've been playing my rep Les Paul for awhile, and have started to figure it out. First thing was it wouldn't stay in tune. I found that the G string tuner had quite a bit of "slop" in it. I could turn it about 1/2 turn with nothing happening. So I replaced the rep Grover tuners with genuine Grover locking tuners. Bought new strings (gibsons), but haven't strung it up yet. As long as I had the strings off, I decided to have a look around inside. As might be expected with a replica anything, the details are where the problems lie. The pickups are, well, not Gibsons. They don't look like much when you take 'em out, but they do work. Some of the screws holding the pickup covers could have been placed in a better location (so that they actually go into the wood a little) but they're close. I haven't checked the pots yet to see if they are of the correct impedence, I don't want to spend a lot of time on this thing, it plays real easy and sounds great thru my effects unit. Soon as I get it strung, I'll report. Here's some pix of the tuners.
  11. Cool. Modded rep guitars. I'm waiting to see what this LP sounds like, If it ain't too bad I may leave it alone. The finish is pretty good, there's a small piece of lint or something in the clear coat, but other than that, it's really OK. The hardware is a little rough, I may have some of it polished and re-plated. I can always replace the pickups with original Gibsons, but I'm waitin' to see what it really sounds like. At least the parts are bigger that watch parts, so I at least have a chance of modding a guitar. Can't see those little wheels and stuff inside watches.
  12. So here it is. One rep Gibson Les Paul Supreme. Packaged real good. Got a case too. Front Back Details solid mahogany body Don't know what it sounds like yet, broken amp. Initial impression is that this is a pretty nice fake guitar. I'm not expecting it to be a real Les Paul, because I'm not a real guitar player. It's just fine with me. Plays real easy. Comments from guitar player friend #1:"Beautiful guitar. You got a good deal." I need to have one more guy have a look at it and we'll have more review. Maybe with sound. Oooooh. By the way, bought on DHgate.com. Seller was Bestguitar. $365. with case delivered to USA. thanks to all who contributed to my quest. I think my basic problem is that I just LOVE fake stuff.
  13. Here's a pic from the website, I'm not expecting to receive the guitar for about another week, I guess. This is my first venture into the rep guitar trade, lots of unknowns, and of course, the possibility of not receiving anything at all, but what the heck, life itself is a crapshoot.
  14. Hey guys, thanks for all the info. Hope I didn't start a guitar plague here. I see we've got lots of musicians on the board, maybe we could start an online band. Just kidding. Anyway, I ordered a Gibson Les Paul Supreme from DHgate yesterday, will post review after I get it. I'm not that good a guitar player to be able to tell what's up with a rep guitar, but I have two or three buddies who are awesome guitarists, and I will have them give the real review. I figure in a worst case scenario, it'll look pretty good next to my only other guitar, a 1964 Fender Jazzmaster (one owner, refinished to natural wood, re-fretted, re-chromed, new pickguard). Pic below.
  15. Great review. Thanks. Is it just me, or does the day wheel of the rep say that it's "FREDAY"?
  16. I dunno. If one is good, then shouldn't two be better?
  17. Saw on the news the other day about some guy getting busted somewhere in N.Y.C. for selling counterfeit Gibson guitars. Wondering if anybody had any info on these.
  18. Congrats Jiro. And great how to Photoshop tutorial. The feature I like the best about CS2 is the "shadow/highlight" adjustment. Don't know if your version has this, but might be worth an upgrade. By the way, thanks for getting the award. I was slightly befuddled by what I was going to put in my 100th post (this one) because most of the time I don't have too much to say or contribute (I'm still learning loads of stuff), but I figured this was the perfect opportunity. Remember, we're all noobs at something.
  19. I use a SkyScan atomic clock.
  20. I have two of Ken's Armani suits, and they are very high quality. Fooled my tailor. I'll probably buy more this fall. I don't think you could go wrong.
  21. Panerai, like a lot of folks. Now I've got three. Will probably buy more. There's something about them....
  22. Great info Navigater. Another reason to love RWG.
  23. I still maintain that Elsie's Sub Shop in Red Bank, N.J. has the best sub. I can never decide between the "Deluxe" or the "Whopper" though. You gotta get the hot peppers no matter what.
  24. I love this place so much I think I'll write a song about it. Might take a while, stay tuned......
  25. Bad news. Hope it's not TOO serious, but ICU, geez. Get well soon, Ken, we miss ya.
