Interesting. Very well made.

I'm cursed. I've taken my latest build apart 50 times tweeking one thing or another. I finally got everything perfect and I realize the end-links just suck. Now I have to buy some gen end-links. It's always bloody something

Nope, the date change is perfect. There is obviously no DWO or anything like that so the date wheel sits perfectly below the dial with no spacer without rubbing. I actually tried it with a dial spacer and it left too big a gap between the date disk and dial. Never got to the part of trying to insert the crown and stem with the dial spacer so not sure if the dial spacer would of affected the height of the movement enough to prevent the stem from inserting. Not sure if H3 or H4 is closer to gen. I went H4 because TC offers them already installed. $125 and about three days and you're ready to go. With that said, I think it looks perfect.

Oh I assure you it's real. Very very real! :-)

A couple photos of the 2824-2 H4 with gen dial and no dial spacer.

Yes, H3 is shorter than H4. I think H4 looks exactly like gen IMO but others will have a better idea if H3 is better.

I used TC's movement with the H4 CP already installed. Worked perfectly and came out fantastic.

The extra space required for the DWO also adds to the need for the H4 height. I sourced two TC movements for the two projects I was working on rather than deal with the part swap. They worked perfectly.

Started with a V5 I bought M2M, no idea what movement but it wasn't a 2824. I installed a Sunnydale Xtal and gen crown and tube upon arrival along with the paper clip fix to the clasp which really made the clasp work perfectly. However the movement randomly stopped so it went on the shelf. I bought a gen dial, gen hands, Swiss ETA 2824, and gen bezel. Realized the Swiss 2824 had too short a canon pinion so sourced a TC 2824-2. Swapped out the date wheel and all parts associated with the date advance from the Swiss to the TC. Note TC's movement showed up with a white date wheel. Scratched the date wheel during installation so had to source a new one. Ofrei sent me the wrong part thee times then finally got the right one last night. Finally assembled. Gen Bez; gen dial, gen hands, gen crown and tube, TC 2824-2 with ETA date wheel and date advance parts, Sunnydale Xtal; fixed/modded clasp. Probably the nicest overall watch I have including some very expensive gens. Really happy with the outcome. Couple comments about the build. The ETA date wheel really didn't work well stock with the TC movement. I dremelled the teeth on the DW to shorten them ever so slightly and worked great. Using the ETA date parts also helped but likely not necessary once I realized the dremel fix. The dial feet where not long enough to lock in so needed a couple dial dots just to lock it down. The minute hand took a lot of force to press on but in the end worked perfectly. The stem had to be cut down quite a but to get the gen crown to engage once the whole thing was assembled. The results were awesome!!

This PO's journey was long and difficult but I breathed life into it at about 9 pm last night. The quality of the gen parts is just unmatched. I'm also incredibly pleased with TC's 2824 which I used for the heart. Smoothest winding watch I own. Can't even tell it's winding. My first real Franken. Now of course I want to Franken every watch I have. I believe this is called stage 2.

God bless summer Sunday's

That watch sucks...you get off work and it's time for bed. It totally skips happy hr.

Lol...great catch. It's so screwed up the screw ups help mask the other screw ups.

The 5 instead of 7 is awesome!!

Busted another keyless myself last night. Brand new watch, never even worn. So frustrating. I will attempt to fix this one. There are some great threads with step by step instructions in this forum. What i want to know is who is the idiot engineer that designed a release system that is so finicky. Drives me crazy. Every time i even touch that little button to release the stem i start sweating.

Just wondered? Was definitely not sure. Just looked weird. Buyer said he's sure it's gen and rolex confirmed. Seems legit.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=1018520 Guys is this gen? From the pics it looks like the canon pinion is too short and the hands are bent to clear the dial markers. Pearl looked suspect also. Thought?

How to clean a dial and crystal during mod.
imajedi replied to imajedi's topic in General Discussion
Ok so I tried Rodico. I used it on a dial, hands, crystal and date wheel. I was careful not to push to hard or over use it. It seemed to work ok on the glossy dial but lifted the paint off my matt dial and took the numbers right off my ETA 2824 date wheel. It also left smudges on the hands and crystal. Not really what you'd call impressed with this stuff. These no lint q-tips seem to be a better option and tissue paper on the crystals. Anyone got anything else for cleaning these delicate parts that just really need to be spotless IMO. -
So trying to put together a 42mm PO. Sourced a Gen ETA 2824-2 only to realize movements come with different canon pinion heights and mine wasn't high enough. So I bought two of TC's 2824 with the H4 CP. The only problem is those came with the white date wheel and I need the black. No problem, I thought, I'll just switch over the one from the ETA movement. Surprise Surprise, it didn't fit. Well, technically it fit it just didn't work. The date wheel would assemble but when you tried to change the date all the way around, portions of the date would not advance and bind and eventually the date wheel would try and lift off the movement enough to prevent advance at all. So I went out and had a couple beers and came back with a new idea. I changed the swapped the two date disk plates and the date advancement spring from the ETA to the TC movment. The parts were interchangeable and this was definitely a step in the right direction. The operatoin of the date wheel was much better but still not perfect. It wouldn't bind so much it quit rotating but some portions would bind enough that the spring could not do its job of pushing the date to the next day (the click you hear). I could tell the disk teeth were binding on the movement so I took the disk off and took a stone dremel to the tips of the teeth. I went around very lightly, really just a smoothing, and reassembled. Everyhting worked perfectly. The only problem in all this is with all the monkying around, I scratch up my date disk. It was on and off about 30 times and the first 5 I had no idea what I was doing. New date disk on its way and hopefully a happy ending. Hope this helps someone. PS - In hindsight, I could of probably asked TC to send me movements with the black date disk already installed. BOING!!!

Who cares about that? The quality of the gen crystal is soooo much better. IMO as important an upgrade as the insert. Gen insert and crystal and the watch is gorgeous.
