  1. Update on our A7753. Defective gear I noted during testing that turning the hands backwards resulted in skipping of the crown, the movement was disassembled to find the problem. Here's what I found, the intermediate gear was broken in two pieces, this gear connects the sliding pinion of the keyless works, to the minute gear and cannon pin. The gear was removed, and a new one installed. Problem fixed. This is the first time I have seen this gear break in two, is it a defect with the A7753? No, this gear is used in all Asian 7750's, so it's an isoloated defect, nothing more... How about that lume?? My initial impressions were wrong...sorry... I work under an extremely bright and powerful colour corrected flourscent lamp, and it can be a bit deceiving, especially when you check out lume. Initially the dial lume looked really good, but I soon realized that it's not that good, in fact it's about the same as on all reps...crappy... I lumed the dial and hands with Genuine Super Luminova C3 A+, which is the brightest and longest lasting lume available (700 minute glow time). Here you can compare the stock vs Super Lume... I have only lumed half of the dial, including half of the subdial at 6. Let me clear up some misinformation, it's been said on the forum a number of times "...no one can lume these subdials, they are too small...", while that may apply to others, it certainly doesn't apply to me. I have been luming these small subdials on the 187's for years...this subdial is no different, don't believe what you read All pics 0.5 second exposure, no trickery or long exposures. Half the dial lumed, and the subdial at 6 "2", "3", and "6" lumed More views:
  2. It looks like you have your answer...you don't move around enough...
  3. She is the one who inspects every watch before it leaves my shop...very picky and doesn't miss anything...
  4. Good stuff, thought that was the problem...
  5. Very nice and excellent pics, well done, great project. Thanks for documenting it for us.
  6. Hmmmmm... The 12 hour hand shouldn't be off, it could be the pusher not pressing in far enough to re-set it fully to the center detent. Maybe try the pusher again or run it until it's past the 6 and see where it resets. I check and double check everything and so does inspector #13...
  7. The increase you felt was the bridle end of the mainspring slipping on the inside of the mainspring barrel wall, it's supposed to do this, and you are correct, you can't overwind any watch... Looking forward to how long it runs...
  8. You have to remember above everything else, an Automatic movement only winds as much as you move your wrist, and a 7750 only winds in one direction, and it's harder for the rotor to move in that direction than the non-winding direction. If you don't move around when wearing the watch, it's not going to wind. Here's the test, do this and report back: 1. Wind the watch slowly and carefully with the crown, at least 35-40 full turns on the crown. 2. Put the watch down, write down the date and time on a piece of paper, then check the watch every morning when you get up. 3. When it stops, note how long it's run, if it's been 30+ hours, your watch is fine, if it's much less time that this, something is wrong. You already proved the autowinder works, so if it runs down when your wearing it, your probably not moving around enough, sitting at a desk, typing on a keyboard will never wind a watch... Hope this helps...
  9. The original review was posted in the General section so that it would be available to the most members. Then the same review was posted in my subforum under the Movement Review section for reference. And the 7 day update was posted so you knew how it was working after a week...it's still running fine today... I don't know how you missed the original one also, it has 1300+ views and something like 60+ comments, maybe your getting to much rest while on vacation...
  10. Glad you found something. If the 160 is the amplitude degress, that is way too low and something is wrong, may be best to see if the train wheels are all free and have the correct end shake, it appears as if there is friction somewhere or a loss of power...
  11. Ok, great feedback. On no 3, that should not be happening, also have a good look with 10X loup at balance pivots for damage etc. Let me know how the rest of it goes...
  12. It only has a 36 hour reserve, sounds like it's working fine...
  13. I can easily save you 50% of the costs you will be out of pocket...how you say? Easy, don't buy the watch, send me the 50% it would cost you -IF you bought the watch - and you get to keep the other 50% you would have spent, so see, it's a win win for both of us.
  14. Not sure what you have done so far, so this is what I would do based on your comments. 1. Remove the rotor 2. Check the timing again and note how it reacts 3. Test it Dial Up, Dial Dn, and Crown Down, what are the readings over say 30 seconds time 4. Make sure the gain on the vibrograph is fully maxed out or as high as possible without it skipping, you want the mic to pick up the pallet giving the impulse to the impulse jewel, not the escape locking on the pallet stone 5. Demagnitise the watch, but the hairspring is non-magnetic so it shouldn't really make a difference. 6. Check the hairspring for centering, coils concentric and flat and not touching. 7. Check the regulator pins, watch with a 10X loupe as the hairspring winds and unwinds, is it always touching the pins or does it touch and float free That should be enough to keep you busy for a few minutes...curious as to the findings... And if that doesn't help, obviously you have to De-Gauss the Flux Capacitor, that's always a problem on these models.
  15. I totally forgot about this post...thanks for the kind words. Glad to see that it hasn't gone out of style. I still have the watch, along with a few others I have done simliar to this one...this one will be put up for sale, it simply doesn't get enough wrist time from me, and shouldn't be sitting in my watchbox any longer.
  16. It's been 7 days since the Asian 7753 was serviced and reviewed, the dial and hands were re-installed, and the watch was cased up. The initial report was good, but how has the watch performed over the past week?? 1. The movement has been keeping good time 2. The automatic date changeover has been working perfectly 3. The quick dateset has been tested and re-tested numerous times, it's working perfectly 4. The chrono has been used over a dozen times and allowed to run for varying amounts of time, all the chrono subdials work perfectly and all the hands reset to the correct position 5. The as-delivered defect with the sticking reversing wheel that was causing the rotor to spin during manual winding has been fixed, and the problem hasn't returned 6. The crown was too far out from the case, causing too much pressure on the stem and the keyless works, as well as bending the crown when the CG lever was closed. The stem was inspected and is the correct length, I found the crown o'ring to be too thick, it was replaced with one 1/2 the thickness, problem solved. There is no reason that this movement won't last a long long time, if it's given the normal care of any mechanical movement, regular servicing at no more than 5 year intervals. On another note, the lume on this 236 was very good, easily 90% of the brightness of Super Lume - As Delivered. Because of this, I do not recommend having this watch lumed, it's not really worth it... spend your money on long term care instead
  17. @ CaptJack your movement is a genuine ETA. We also have a full teardown and review of the Asian 2824-2 right here on RWG, you can read it by clicking here: My review and teardown of the A 2824-2

  19. Very common as every has said, here's one that I have in the shop, check them out...I think it all depends on how many beer Hans had when he was setting up the cutting machine...
  20. Here's a watch I created 18 months ago...my own PVD coating, and my own design for the dial and hands, note the lume...I called it the "Stealth"... you can see the original post here:Stealth 212 It was a hit at the time, you must have missed or forgotten about it. FYI I have a complete 212 case in my spares, fully PVD coated, brand new, never used, just waiting to be assembled, I just haven't had the time to put it together.
  21. I did not try a 7750 DW for fitment, the inner diameter delta between the ETA7753 and ETA7750 is 0.82mm, the 7750 being smaller. The A7753 DW is way off from the ETA, check out this pic from the original post... The watch is fully assembled and being monitored, testing of a 7750 DW is going to have to wait until another shows up in the shop... You could be onto something, maybe a 7750 DW fits... ETA on top, Asian on the bottom.
  22. Thank you everyone for the wonderful feedback and comments. You confirmed the reasons why RWG is a great community and reminded me of why I put the hours into creating these reviews - your kind words made my day, thank you again I appreciate it. @andy Hold onto my beer, I will take you up on that offer... @rytrilius Your idea has merit, they can print the dates anywhere they like on the datewheel, so yes, they could print the dates in the same location as the ETA 7753. You raise another point, if ideed they made the datewheel so wide to allow it to be used on various models, why not simply print the dates in the exact same location as the ETA 7753? More questions than answers...
  23. I have ordered various cases and parts, used the website to order. 100% pleased and satisfied with their service, communication, and quality of the product.
