Wow, that is really nice. I had the Glycine Airman with the 3 movements, sold it, so big it was like wearing a clown watch, 2893-2, and 2 each 2671 movements, so big it wasn't funny...

There's no school like old school: '06 EL vs. Geniune PAM48 dial

Very interesting, my buddy Eddie...wonder how he's doing these days... Thanks for this. -
No more ETA quartz circuits as of 2012
RWG Technical replied to importr's topic in General Discussion
Did not know this, thanks for the info. Just another step in the trend to not sell or do anything outside the supplier. In the end the loosers will be the consumers, can you say MONOPOLY... The Swiss have made many mistakes in the past and almost killed their watchmaking industry... for example the 70's take over by Japan, that brought them to their knees, now this, seems as if they are not learning from the past mistakes...oh well, I can hear the Chinese factories rubbing their hands and tooling up to fill the void. -

In many cases the Miyota 8215 can fit without much modification, there are many factors which have to line up perfectly in order to swap a movement. You have to try it to know if it will work, and it's a lot of work requiring tooling, knowledge, skill, etc... Realistically...the best value overall, not only for the movement, but the dial, hands, case and tube and crown quality etc, is to buy the higher end ETA models, in the end you really get what you pay for. The $100 watches with the A21J are 10% of the quality of the higher cost ones...it all depends on what you want to do, and what your looking for.

Understood...I tried the glue process and had terrible results, tubes pulling out, misalignment with the stem, etc, which is why I do it this way now. Not everyone has all the tooling, but my services are available if asked

The only correct way to install any tube that is too small for the case hole, is to do what I do: 1. Take a round piece of high carbon steel, install in your lathe 2. Drill for the new tube, cut off the drilled section and press the new tube in to the carbon steel spacer ring 3. Re-install in the lathe, trim and reduce the carbon steel ring until it fits the case hole, work in a slight taper for a secure fit, remove from lathe, 4. Press fit the new assembly with the tube and spacer into the case 5. Perfect fit not only with alignment for the stem, everything is secured and waterproofed This is really the only way to do this job, of course it requires a lathe and tooling and skills, but if you want a perfect durable no problem job, this is how you do it.

Pam 196 daylight A7750 hour hand loose ? anyone advise
RWG Technical replied to billywhiz's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
A good rule of thumb for watchmaking...if you have to ask...you're in over your head. Find someone locally who is competent and can do the work for you, that is your best option. -

Another Franken APROO - This one's mine!
RWG Technical replied to HauteHippie's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
I can answer that one... The whole workscope was my judgement call, it has to be with this type of specialized project, otherwise it won't work. You have to trust in my skills and workmanship and judgement to be able to do something like this, otherwise it won't work. For the overall height, I machined down the caseback and bezel as much as I could, with any of these there are variables between each one, if you have genuine gaskets that changes measurements vs the original gaskets etc...this one overall came out somewhere around 14.80mm if I remember... -
It's simply a matter of these modified basterdized GMT movements being poorly made. Sounds like your GMT gear is simply sliping that's all, there is no fix and you can't upgrade to an ETA, so basically you have to live with it. If you move only the GMT hand, can you get it to line up, the GMT hand moves independently and there are notches and a detent that seats it in place, what happens if you move the GMT hand to a new position on the dial, does it slip, or does it track...it may only be this particular position that is defective.

I suspect this eBay auction will end at a very high price
RWG Technical replied to Nanuq's topic in The Rolex Area
What happened was someone in the UK from VRF went to the sellers home...this person looked over the contents, and informed the seller that all the parts were "fake"...the seller felt really bad, removed the auction from Ebay... Interestingly, the kind VRF person who identified these items as "Fake" posted some pictures to prove his point, the back view of 1 dial, and a picture of the bezels... What I suspect is that maybe...the dials were genuine and the kind VRF person agreed to take them off the hands of the seller...for a modest fee...and walked away with a couple of valuable dials...you have to wonder why the VRF person couldn't and didn't take any close up detailed pictures of the dial. All in all, the whole episode stinks, the way it was advertized was a scam from the start..."oh look, a nice military box...it's heavy and will be expensive to ship...oh and look, there are some goodies inside...not sure what they are...yuck yuck yuck..." -
If I lumed a dial and it turned out like this one, I can guarantee that the customer would be livid and very unhappy with me and would tell me so...
-
It's definetly not a Sellita, from the finish of the plating I would say it's a Clone ETA 28XX, a gen ETA would not have that rotor marking and the ETA is typically a more subtle gold plating...

Embarasement to all watchmakers around the world, this is so wrong on so many levels...entertaining though, can't help but wonder what's the point of the whole excercise?

He's a MORON, love the way he flicks each screw off as he unscrews it, and the fact that the movement is resting on the seconds pinion during the disassembly...

Understood. Yes in fact, I did see and witness one happen, this one in fact, as soon as it reached full wind, it let go (and so did I) and blew up in my hand, sounded like a cat when you step on it's tail...- 55 replies
