I've been thinking about it and I reckon I know what the nitwit is talking about. He probably popped the back off expecting to find a zinc plated something or other and instead found a gold finish 2836 and assumed from the colour it was some brass crap. There ain't no brass in the straps or cases, that's for sure...

The Q branch sawblade watch was a Sub, and MI6 have fallen out with Rolex so you'll have to track down a vintage I'm afraid.... Only on the quartz version.

I wouldn't, but when you realise that some nutters are paying $$$k's for these just to stick them in a display cabinet, then someone might. It's actually a promotional item circa. 2000 based on a prop from the 007 film The World is not Enough. A German website is listing these as 'Price on Application' - link.

That is a good point, but unless you are doing it yourself the labour costs of repairing 2824 movements will far outweigh the cost of a complete replacement.

I didn't get a date, just an indication that a 22mm rubber strap was being developed for the new case. All previous rubber strapped rep PO's have used the 20mm strap designed for the standard Seamaster. I'm actually hoping to just get a case, crystal and strap and swapping in the movement from my 45 Asian as it is still the best dial and movement combo out there for large size PO (correct hand length, best print and proper beat). As for the versions of PO - ask yourself how many Subs there have been...

I don't think it is as simple as that. I look primarily for visual authenticity in the reps of models of watches I have chosen to buy and if authenticity stretches to the movement too then that is a bonus, but I wouldn't prefer an ETA over an Asian if it was equally the wrong movement for the watch and all other things were equal. If the ETA choice means the watch mimics the beat of the real thing better then I will go for it, but that isn't necessarily always the case either (for example with the Omega Planet Ocean - the Asia 21J actually beats closer to the genuine Calibre 2500 movement than the 2824, and both of them will look equally wrong if you take the caseback off). The newest Asian movements are just as (and in some cases more) reliable than the ETA stamped ones. If you ain't going to see it and the watch looks exactly the same (or more accurate) from the outside with it then take the Asian.

Unfortunately impossible. The datewheel is sunken because most of it is lying under the plate and transfer wheels. I am actively avoiding all watches that do not use the 7750 in its correct configuration (ie. 12, 6 and 9 subregisters). If everyone else does the same then the factories will have to abandon these bastard movements and build a proper 7753 rep instead. It is a shame you didn't opt for the Navitimer with the 7750 configuration used correctly - it would be a more accurate and reliable rep and you wouldn't be getting bugged by the datewheel.
