Clark crystals aren't great on a cartel case. They distort the rehaut too much. After trying many different options, the best rep version I've come across is the CWP crystal, however they do seem fairly brittle. I installed several on my 5513, after a while hairline fractures would appear in the area between the case and retaining ring. The crystal itself was a snug fit on the case and the retaining didn't need much pressure to press into place. So after several tries with the CWP, I went for a used T19 service crystal instead, which hasn't given me any problems.

IWC XVI today, added a gen crown and tube this morning.

To remove the retaining ring you need to insert a thin blade between the case and where you have marked "option 1". Slowly work the blade around the ring and case applying pressure and leveraging upwards. Once the gap is large enough, you can use the case back opener (or penknife blade) to lever the retaining off.

Thanks I shape inside and out, mainly outside though and naturally nothing off the top. To compensate for the lack of CG height I also reduce the height of the saddle, between the guards, hence the need to countersink and re-tap. No idea if the Athaya crown works with the regular rep tube, I would swap it out. Thanks

As JMB has said you would need a thicker dial spacer with your 2824. I would recommend going the 2846/36 route which is an easy fit with a standard dial spacer into the cheaper Cartel 2813 case (or just buy the 2836 version). Only other issue with the cheaper case that I've come across are the misspelt and inaccurate engravings between the lugs, this might be just luck of the draw and can be easily sanded out. After you've drilled out the lug holes to 1.3mm and shaped the crown guards with a diamond file you'll have a fairly decent case for the price. Here are a few shots of my reshaped Cartel CGs, with an Athaya 702 crown and tube. Btw. you will need to countersink the hole and carefully re-tap the thread before fitting the tube, otherwise the crown may sit too high.

Second one for me today. Finally got around to adding a gen crown and tube to my Franken PO.

Well worth upgrading dial and datewheel to gen. I upgraded the minute and hour hands too, as the rep hour hand had flaked a little of the coating.
