  1. I'm goin with gen 704 monoblock.
  2. For Rolex 700/703 tubes, it requires an M3x0.35mm tap. (Handy to have in your tool box.) 0.35 is the "pitch".... Which is the distance from one thread to another. In this case 0.35mm for 703 tubes. Apparently the jury is still out on the required tap for a 702. I'm certain it's still an M3 tap, but having the wrong pitch makes all the difference in the world.
  3. Its a tool that cuts the threads into a bored hole: http://bit.ly/1jnbqEX The tool that cuts the thread onto the corresponding tube (or bolt or equivalent) is called the "die"
  4. Three of us having same problem with a 702 tube. It's gotta be a different pitch. But what? 0.30? 0.40? 0.25? I think we can safely say that it is NOT 0.35
  5. Jed just put up some bezel for sale on VRM if you care (or have the budget)
  6. the case of the 1680 is horrid. that's gotta go.
  7. 703 screws right in to my HH case. The threads on my 702 are pristine as well.
  8. It was sold to me as a NOS 702 tube. So either the tube is a rep, or the pitch on a 702 is different. Or I'm just a wimp and should put more muscle in screwing it in.
  9. I think what the OP is asking is (as am I): What is the thread pitch of a gen 702 tube? I too am having difficulty with a 702 tube in a 703 (0.35) tapped case. My suspicion is that it might require a different tap. If so, why would Rolex do that?
  10. You don't need to buy another bezel. Just the bezel insert.
  11. There's a beautiful space dweller build on the other RWG site. Used a relumed ingod dial: http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?/topic/66355-Rolex-Space-Dweller-Project-%28an-Akira-build%29
  12. ^^^^WHS^^^^
  13. TC V6 has engraved rehaut? Anyhow, I saw some gen crystals I the classifieds on TRF this morning. They cost 1/2 the price of the TC, but if u got the $$.
  14. Toronto Canada.
  15. I think I have a couple if aftermarket ones. Not sure if they are for a 1520. Possibly a 3035. If they are the same u can have them. I don't remember where I got them, but they are in my parts bin I think.
  16. Looks like threads only 1/2 way. 703 then. Thks
  17. Well that's the problem. I don't have in front of me. The seller does not know what it is. If its a 702, it would be a steal. But if its a 703, its useless to me.
  18. That's great. Would you say this is a 702 then:?
  19. Phong case is excellent.. but $1200? really? no thanks
  20. Look at the back of the Ingod CG's.. Cmon.. Thats laffable!
  21. My case is stamped as '67.. yes, you're right.. Tough to compare just one era of 5513 cases... I guess this is specifically a comparison of a mid'60's case to the Yuki
  22. Ahh.. bit slow today.. Only got 2 hours of sleep.....
  23. ... Ask me again in a couple of years... need to rebuilt the savings account!
  24. Building any vintage can be a very rewarding experience. Whether its a big budget, or one that's more friendly on the wallet. Given some of the higher end choices of Phong, InGod, and Yuki cases as a base, I decided to go for the Yuki because I felt it had the right balance of accuracy relative to price. But its difficult to gauge this without a side by side comparison with a gen case. I will attempt to do so for your benefit now. From face on, Yuki has done a good job overall with the general shape from a distance. The "tritium" dot is very good on the insert, however the insert itself is quite poor. The bezel teeth are a bit shallow, but acceptable. Crystal is actually acceptable. Lugs look pretty good. The gen case on the bottom has no doubt been thinned slightly over time from a couple of polishes.: Case back on the Yuki is excellent. However seems to be a bit more of a "bubble" compared to gen. Mind you, my gen case back might have become flatter over the years if it was still in place in a crystal press as the retaining ring was installed and removed. Tough to say: Close up of lug comparison: Note how the sides of the lugs on the gen thin out so that they sneak under the bezel. The Yuki is a bit piggish and just grazes the bezel as the lug merges with the crown guard. Gen: Yuki: Speaking of CG's, the Yuki could use a mild shaving. Even gen 5513's can vary, but Yuki is a bit of a porker in this department...although the general shape of them are quite good Now a glaring tell on reps is usually the backside of the crown guards. Ingods used to be horrific. Yuki's is not great. Opening at the base of the tube is about 1-1.5 mm too wide compared to gen. Definitely have seen worse. Id say this is something they should try to improve: I'd say the side profile is quite nice. Bit more of an "arc" or teardrop shape on the gen, but reasonable effort here. Caseback stamping in the Yuki is phenomenal... But no one but you will see it: The Yuki case engraving is excellent as well. Gen: Yuki: Overall, I'd say the Yuki case is a great start for a 5513 project with an 8/10 dbane score. Case could use some thinning, CG shaving. Any proficient Dremel user can improve these areas. With some elbow grease and a gen insert and crown, You'll have yourself a solid foundation for a terrific watch. There are very good rep 5513 dials for ETA movements that could be used as a start, but I believe this case is worthy of a gen dial and cal 1520. Start saving boys!
  25. I'll post some comparative side by side shots in a few minutes.
