  2. Just to keep in the spirit of things, this was technically an Explorer dial transfer, but I tinted the underlay so it would only read "Rolex Oyster Perpetual" (as in OHMSS ) Very happy with the results, and of course, in the true wabi-sabi philosophy, the project is still incomplete
  3. Of course, if I was to sell one of my home-brewed Rolexs, I wouldn't expect it to sell for any more than a regular rep (if even that much, as others might not appreciate the aesthetic), I certainly wouldn't think "I spend $600 on watches for the parts, so someone will buy it for $600..." That would be crazy
  4. I think I see what you're meaning, bro. I would be prepared to spend whatever it cost to build a project I wanted to build, but I would likely never spend that much in one go on just one watch (remember also, that the watches I will be buying as parts donors will also get 're-combined' to form new watches as well, which I might then give away as gifts)
  5. I've always found Tony okay to deal with. I returned a PAM with a faulty power reserve via regular airmail and it took about a month to reach him, but it did get there.
  6. I disabled the hack on my vintage project Sub Not for accuracy to gen, of course, but because the movement kept stopping under impacts, so I figured the easiest thing to do was to bend the hack lever away from the balance wheel so it just wouldn't touch it at all Problem solved, and, as an added bonus, the movement is now more historically accurate
  7. Nice to see a Hydronaut, they don't make appearances very often (I think this is the first I've seen on forum) and the dial color on the Tiger looks phenomenal
  8. The Underpants Gnomes saw fit to return my camera (thieving motherfuckers ) so I thought I'd take a quick shot of the re-worked vintage Sub. Since it's last incarnation, it has had a new dial (Slartibartfast dial transfer which I lumed myself) a new movement (which I've disabled the hack on) a new insert (lightly filed) and I re-finished the case and bracelet to take out some of the more superficial scuffmarks, leaving only the deepest, but by extension, 'blending those in a bit' for a rather nice finish
  9. I wouldn't like to say if you'll definitely get the stuff back if it's definite theft (incompetence and loss, yes, but it's definitely sounding like employee theft) I guess all one can hope for is a satisfactory resolution, and a harsh sentence for a federal crime...
  10. Damn, that's sickening to hear, I really hope you can get this taken care of. For what it's worth, if this stuff is all being taken by an employee (and probably the same employee), chances are they are pilfering other people's mail as well, so if they get caught, that's going to be meaning some serious time in a federal prison (messing with the mail is still a federal crime, isn't it?) I really hope you get it resolved
  11. That sounds like a good idea I would suggest asking precisely what procedure occurs, as you say, find out the chain of handling, and then find out where the weak link is and what they propose to do about it to compensate you for the losses Best of luck
  12. Welcome back, I hope any challenges and obstacles have been overcome
  13. Sorry to hear that, Kurt, but it wouldn't surprize me if some light-fingered postie was taking the uninsured stuff. I recall last year when Dani had a parcel jacked by the US post office, and they eventually contacted him to say they'd caught the thief...
  14. That was a fascinating read, bro, thanks for taking the time to write it up
  15. Don't discount the cheaper watches, they can be a good way of seeing if you actually like a watch or not, so saving on a chunk of change... For example, from the photos, I thought I would really like the Vacheron Constantin Overseas, but when it arrived, I couldn't stand to wear it. Sure, it looked fantastic, and there was nothing actually wrong with it, but everytime I put it on, a little voice yelled getitoffGETITOFFGETITOFF!!! I was glad that I'd only bought a cheaper, rather than more expensive version, and the only difference, was the movement... Welcome to the party [Edit to add] Another example would be the Rolex 1655. Absolutely iconic watch, and one I thought I'd really like. While I can wear it without the getitoffGETITOFFGETITOFF!!! going off in my head, I don't feel particularly connected to it as a watch (despite reluming the dial and tinting the GMT hand myself) and although I think I will keep it 'as a spare', I don't think it will ever be my first choice to wear if I have an alternative... Not cash I regret spending, as it was incredibly cheap, in fact, I'm glad I only bought the cheap version, as had I coughed up $200+ for it, I would have been really frustrated, and probably re-sold it to try and recoup some of the loss...
  16. The download's finished, but when I try to open the file, it just tries to burn it to a CD... Is that a necessary step? I've never actually tried installing a new OS on a computer
  17. If you're only swapping the pearl, it's much easier to only swap the pearl All you need do, is pick out the existing pearl with a fingernail, then use a toothpick to dab epoxy round the inside edges of the hole in the bezel insert, then simply press the new pearl into place I find it best to rotate the entire bezel assembly for a few minutes just to be sure the epoxy doesn't lock it solidly in place Really very easy to do, best of luck
  18. Thanks, bro, downloading now That sounds interesting, I'll give it a look
  19. Awesome watches, amigos It's not just Time Lords who regenerate From this: into this:
