  1. Sorry, dude, but that's just funny Given a movement is what makes a watch function, without a genuine Rolex movement in it, (and every other part genuine Rolex stock) then such watches will never functionally be genuine Rolex. Don't get me wrong, I really admire the people who build their watches by sourcing parts, and there are some really nice examples on the boards, but, at the end of the day, unless every part in the watch is genuine stock, it will still be a replica. It's a bit like a comment I read on a HotRod forum, where someone wanted to restore a Model T which was in seriously bad condition, with a huge rust problem. Members pointed out, that, due to the sheer amount of metal which would have to be replaced, and using aftermarket parts, by the time the project was completed, it would be considered a 'replica', rather than a 'restoration'. And of course, there's always the Curse of the Rolex, where someone will always ask "Is that real??"
  2. Psssst Angus is part of the Cartel... Andrew, Angus, Joshua and King. That it (or certainly was) the membership, unless there have been breakaways from the group...
  3. Are those Transformers models on the shelf behind you? I have a few dotted around my room, as well as 4 Dalek models which I plan to re-spray to represent the Cult of Skaro. Good to see a fellow collector of such things here Oh yes, my watch... Well, I haven't had time to get a new wrist shot yet, but I'm still wearing my 127, only with a new honey/tan BOB sharkskin strap my fiance got me for christmas. Way more comfortable than the stock strap (which I 'burst' trying to soften it up ) and it looks great on the watch. I'll try and get some pics when possible Hope folks had a good christmas, Peace be upon you.
  4. Maybe it's just the particulars of the strap itself... The bund strap on Emily's J12 is anything but masculine To be honest, she does cope very well, but, that's because it manifested when she was very young (the youngest person in the region to be diagnosed with it), and, at it's most severe, the coverage was apparently very severe. It's eased a lot in the time I've known her, and now is little more than light spotting/dryness around the hairline (smaller area than the Trill-spots painted on Terry Farrell and Nicole deBoer in Sheep Dip Nine ) compared to when we first met, and there was more coverage on her arms, legs, back and torso, but, it seems to be calming down, and strangely, without the benefits of medications, as, eventually, it stopped being effective, but, it then just 'calmed down', so I think it's very much stress-related. Sadly, being an inherited condition (which she got from her scum-bag bio-dad) our children will likely inherit it as well, and have to go through the same... Oh well, here's keeping fingers crossed, and indeed, she does cope well, probably much better than my first post indicated I wouldn't like to say about the price of reps being the factor, but you could well be onto something about the nickel content of the metal. I am still of the opinion that my 127 could be the kind of 'base model' Davidsen then modifies. It appears visually identical to the one you showed a while back, and, when winding the crown, it has the same 'spring-back'/reverse which has been mentioned as being a recurring issue with Davidsen's watches. The only thing I'm not too sure about with regards the movement, is that it is very fiddly finding 'the sweet-spot' to do the reverse-winding/second set function. That said, I suspect Davidsen is putting different movements into his watches, so who knows PS I've been wearing mine on the dive strap for a few days now, and, although it doesn't look 'as smart', as it does on the leather, it certainly looks nice, and, as Emily's step-dad (who insists I should just get a 'more reliable quartz' ) commented, it looks 'more modern', than it looks on the leather.
  5. Have you thought about trying a Bund strap? I believe Strap Culture sell them... Could save any contact with the watch from causing a problem Sorry to hear you've had another 'breakout', I know how upsetting Emily finds it when her psoriasis flares up.
  6. I would agree the comments about build quality, but cannot give the watch a 'personal thumbs up', as, when I tried one (gen) on, as nice as it was, it just didn't have that "Must by that!" quality. Infact, trying one on actually put me off ordering one... Other than that though, yes, absolutely awesome watch
  7. Sorry for the [censored] photo, I had to use my phone's camera Anyhoo, hope folks like the combination
  8. Personally, for everyday wear, I prefer my PAMs on brown/tan straps. That said, they (as a brand) do look awesome on black straps. I think black straps certainly look more formal than brown/tan straps. Last saturday, when I wore my 127 on a borrowed black strap, despite it's size, it looked really smart (I wish I'd had time to take wrist shots) and went great with my outfit. When I see the PAMs on black straps, I think of the catalogue shots on the official website
  9. As mentioned, Panerai. The first 111h I bought, I wasn't over impressed with (possibly due to the strap color) and equally, the first 127 I bought, I initially felt was too big. I would point out, that although I have no problems now wearing the 127 during the day, at night, or rather, in the dark, the huge luminous numbers in the shadow of my wrist do still appear somewhat 'oversized', but I don't care, I love it
  10. Given enough notice, and the overall logistics, I'd be interested. I took German at school, and, although it's been nearly 10 years since I had to speak German (visiting the Rheine Valley) I was able to get by with what I'd learned, and found that more came back to me as the holiday progressed, so I think I'd be okay Indeed, Germany is an excellent suggestion for location. Another I would make mention of (simply as it is my favorite European country) would be Belgium, as I've always found that to be a lovely place to visit
  11. As I've never been overly concerned about the level of fidelity in replication in watches, I'll just comment on the appeal of Panerai watches, and say that they do take some getting used to, but you will get used to them. Sometimes you might even not like the watch initially, give it away, and then later get another (done that with both 111h and 127 models) Sometimes you will start off thinking "I won't wear a 47mm watch everyday" (I thought that too ) but, oneday, you will find yourself wearing a 127, and it will suddenly feel like the only watch you want to wear. When I went to my fiance's work's christmas party on saturday, I was wearing my 127 on a borrowed strap to match my shoes. With a lot of people in the room, it soon got very hot, so my jacket came off, and my sleeves got rolled back a way for comfort. I didn't get any compliments on my watch, but it did get some interested glances, and, it certainly stood out from the Fossils and other 'fashion watches' which were being sported, and it 'felt' perfect on my wrist: I could not think of another watch which I would have prefered to have worn All I can say with PAMs, is give them time, and you will love them
  12. I totally sympathise with you on that. I get on extremely well with my fiance's mother. We're both Libras, so in terms of pure personality, we get on, dare I say, better than I get on with my fiance, simply because we have incredibly similar opinions/reactions to things. My fiance is well aware that, before we got together, I was seeing a woman considerably older than me, so every so often, will accuse me of fancying/having an affair with her mother. To be honest, it's a hard situation as, if I turn round and outright say that I don't find her mother attractive, she'd know I was lying, but of course, that doesn't mean that anything would ever happen. I guess it's just one of those 'no win' situations... Glad to hear it's all working out for you though PS Awesome work on the watch, I can't wait to let you get to work on mine (Come on payday )
  13. On RWG, you don't choose Dealer, Dealer chooses you... As you say though, the information is all here, all one need do is read reviews and ask questions before comitting to a course of action
  14. Ahh, I wondered if that might've been the reason
  15. Looks fantastic One question though, why re-lume a genuine dial?
  16. A Rolex can't compare to such a watch... As the SSD was a gift, I'd say keep it for sentimental reasons, but, in terms of the money, spend it on the pilot watch
  17. I use one of these: Power of an electric toothbrush, portability of a manual
  18. I would, if there were any shops in town which sold 26/26 straps PM Sent
  19. Animal cruelty is probably the thing I hate most in the world. I'd rate someone who was cruel to an animal as being lower than a child molester, as animals can't even tell someone what has happened to them, and they rely on us for their protection. That said, I do not have any problem eating meat or wearing leather products, as using leather goods, means that even if an animal is killed for it's meat, the 'leftovers' are not going to waste. I have the same approach to animal testing for medicines (but NOT for cosmetics etc) if it were not for animal testing for medicinal purposes, then there are many people in the world today who would be dead, or have a severely impaired quality of life. Such research, as the law prevents doctors researching on criminals, is a sad necessity. Hopefully oneday, it will no longer be a necessity. Actually, given the cost of leather goods compared to the cost of meat, maybe meat is really a by-product of the leather industry, and we've just been duped into thinking we need to eat it
  20. Thanks Following discussions about previous PAW(s) and customs, I have something I'll be quite happy to donate to the cause from my vacation to Spain. A transparent plastic Submariner-like watch. 100% Quartz, gen plastic crystal, and utterly [censored] pearl Joking asside, it looks pretty nice. Black dial (similar proportions to the Rolex Maxi-dial, but small hands) black bezel (with 12-3 section in red) and it's mounted on a tan leather strap which was made locally. All in all, it's pretty cheap and nasty, but it shouldn't cause any issues with customs. If anyone feels the need to modify it, then feel free
  21. How about a revival of the Pass Around Watch?
  22. I'm still wearing this, but, it's now officially 'made it' as my regular wear watch, relegating the PVD 111g to a 'wardrobe matching' watch, with the 111h (when I get it back) It might be too large to easily go under a shirt cuff, the crystal might distort the markers, and the gold hands might not be as subtle as the hands on a Marina, but damn it's a nice watch
