  1. +1 The most tedious article I had the misfortune to read... I didn't even get halfway through it
  2. I believe the producers of Minority Report got in a bit of trouble for rebranding an Omega X-33 as 'Bvlgari' without permission. In the first Iron Man movie, Robert Downey Jr can be seen wearing a Hublot Big Bang when he tries to phone for help during the convoy ambush at the start, and when he decides to gatecrash the benefit party, he checks out a Bvlgari (not sure of the model) which is carefully set at 10:10 with all complications at the halfway points on their scales. Amusingly, despite the very noticeable ticking sound, there is no movement of the second hand I looked on WatchEden but couldn't find a rep of it (not that I'd actually wear one) but it was a nice looking watch, as was the Drive Patek
  3. Couldn't've said it better myself, but yes, barring the rehaut engraving, it shouldn't be hard to cobble together a reasonable approximation of this. What gets me though, is it was Oliver Shepard who had his 1655 modified to include the dial and hands of a GMT Master, so that should be the real credit for this release
  4. I think you might be pleasantly surprised with the Tropic-style strap, the waffle back and venting makes it comfortable to wear in hot weather, and if it gets wet, they dry incredibly quickly Failing that, I guess you could just put it on a bracelet
  5. That feels so wrong, makes me feel like I'm wearing someone else's watch For me, it's not so much seeing the watch, more a case of needing to be able to know the time. I'm not so OCD about it as to check my watch every five minutes, or one of those whackjobs who will continuously ask others what the time is, only to ask again moments later, but the idea of not being able to tell what the time is, well, it makes me feel worse than seeing an unorganized cutlery drawer, and that is one of my major peeves I'm not OCD, I'm just 'deliberately organized' That is precisely it...
  6. I can't stand the knowledge of not having a watch on my wrist, I absolutely hate it. The only time I ever take a watch off, is if it is on a fabric/leather strap and I'm going to swim or have a shower, other than that, they never come off. If I take a watch off to do a modifcation, I'll put on another watch for the duration For me, the weight of the watch is unimportant, I could be wearing a feather-light quartz, and not be able to feel the watch on my wrist, and that wouldn't bother me, but the feeling of looking down and not being able to tell what the time is, well, it really freaks me out... I would love to carry a pocket watch, but even then, the lack of a watch on my wrist, still creeps me out
  7. That's a really nice piece of work, my friend I know you're not a fan of the NATOs, had you considered one of the silicon Tropic-style straps?
  8. I'm not sure I'd trust the system of handing them into the police, but given the need to sell them would create a papertrail, I guess better to do that than getting charged with theft by finding... As the track says "Fuck the poe lease!"
  9. I think the thing to be mindful of, is the differences between American and Chinese business practices. Concepts like customer loyalty/repeat business etc take a back seat to the ethos of easy individual sales and making money off that bulk, rather than playing the long game
  10. Absolutely love it :tu: I get the joke for the insult/two fingers up to elitist watch collectors that it is, it's the same spirit as my plastic submariner, just on a much more expensive scale
  11. I'd absolutely love to, but at the moment, finances are way too tight to make any promses If things change though, I'll let you know
  12. Yes, you are being unreasonable. You've been here long enough to know that paying return shipping is always on the customer's dime. Do I agree with that status quo? Not at all, I really don't like it, but I accept that it's the nature of the game Seeing the above comment, I'm glad to see that you've come to a resolution with Andrew
  13. I've only ever bought what is being refered to as the 'cheap junk', yet only ever had one issue of a serious failure, a DJ on Presidential suffered a failure of one of the permanent link pins. Other than that, nothing... I guess I've just been lucky
  14. I don't read any other rep forums... I found RWI less active than here, and as for RG, well, I made my feelings about that forum clear the other week
  15. My thoughts are that it could be due to slippage of the minute hand on its pinion, and that when re-setting the time, it has simply gone unnoticed. As Freddy said, just a matter of decasing the movement, removing the hands, running the crown till the date wheel moves, immediately taking fingers off the crown, and reinstalling the hands pointing as close to the 12 Marker as possible
  16. No excuse at all, simply an accurate description of an audiophile: someone who cares more about the quality and presentation of the sound than the sound itself.. And as for 'sucks', I've never listened to music on high quality equipment, I've never had the money or means to do so, and always made do with the head or ear phones which came with the Walkman/minidisc/iDevice I happened to buy, and I've always found it adequate for my needs I wasn't trying to put audiophiles down, I just know that I'm not one, nor have any intent on being one. I'm sure I'd appreciate listening to stuff on a high end set up, but at the end of the day, it's just not a subject I really care about I was simply curious as to how these rep headphones would perform (not because I want a pair) as a matter of interest Thanks for the hardware recommendations though
  17. Hmmm, off the top of my head... 16610 Submariner Coke bezel GMT Master II on Jubilee Black bezel GMT Master II with green GMT hand (as parts) Pepsi GMT Master Two DateJusts (as parts, not Out of the Box Wearers) Double Red SeaDweller 'contemporary' SeaDweller TT Submariner (as parts)
  18. I'm having trouble with photobucket at the moment, but y'all know what my plastic submariner looks like... I've had it on for the past few days, and not feeling the needto change it for a while Had a bit of snow here, Saturday evening I stripped down to my underwear and did a 10 meter snow walk while it was still snowing... Not as cold as I expected, but it felt really good to do it Hope the scans go well, Cats
  19. I've heard that audiophiles shouldn't be confused with music lovers, and that they aren't so bothered about the music being played, but the quality and fidelity with which the sound of the music is being presented. As above, every hobby has it's purists
  20. Personally speaking, I'm not fussed, and as above, I think the bracelet/strap combo can be used to compliment the wardrobe. I also use variations in strap material for different climates and temperatures. In summer, I prefer either NATO or silicon, winter, I'm more likely to wear SS or leather. Plastic isn't brilliant in hot weather, but it is tollerable
  21. Also, if I was to ever have to sell my collection, I'd probably reboot with a 42mm Planet Ocean
  22. No worries, glad to be of help Not sure where you might get a stylograph, maybe eBay? As for the lume forthe DSSD, I believe it's SuperLuminova, but I'm not 100% sure... As above, just put the hands in nail polish remover and let the solvent work it's magic Best to do that in a ventilated area if you want a steady hand for the reluming
  23. I just remembered having seen one similar online in the past, so when I saw that, the light bulb came on
