  1. It is an interesting story. Very mysterious indeed
  2. I agree on principle.... it should be avoided. but here in NYC the AD's are mostly morons who know NOTHING about watches and defer to old catalogs when asked a question. I was called out once "on a rep"in kenjo in midtown. I was wearing a GEN pam 176 with a $400 handmade ammo strap. The strap was suspicious he said. I just laughed at the guy.
  3. I heard from The Zigmeister today and I now understand the differences we had on the "blocking" was more of a misunderstanding. I apologize for any negative comments I have made on this issue and hope he continues to serve the board with knowledge and skills in the future. chad
  4. A simple classic dress watch would be the only thing that would stand the test of time.
  5. The Zigmeister blasted me and blocked me a year or so ago for referring to a lume job on a cousteau as sloppy because of the limitations of the human hand vs machine. (not a personal comment but a comment toward hand vs machine lume) I have always went out of my way to say how his work is TOP notch and his contribution to the community is AMAZING. I apologize for that other comment and have in the past because maybe it sounded harsh. but... I agree with the others about the fact that he also runs a business here. Every six months or so he "takes a break" because he does not like the aspects of the community. Most people are afraid to say anything because he will block you for ANY comment disagreeing with anything he says. I have spoken privately with many members that are afraid to say anything to the contrary to him. I have already lost any chance of getting work done by him at this point so I will say this freely. The Zigmeister, the work you do is fantastic but i think this community is also fantastic. You are invaluable to the community with your expertise. There may be some scammers as there are everywhere but all and all it is a great group with a great sense of honesty and character. You are making money and enjoying yourself doing it by working on mostly illegal items. I think under those circumstances you have it pretty good here and have the respect of everyone on the board.
  6. i'm confused with the first part of your story...... The guy got a watch for engagement? I did not know guys "got" anything for engagement. I have never heard of a male engagement ring. As far as a watch for your future fiance, I would hope you cleared that with her. In any event I would get the ring, not a watch. It is timeless. A 2k watch is not. Get her a watch for an anniversary or more common as a wedding present the day of your wedding.
  7. One thing to always watch with replacement from the the big dealers... In my experience they are usually either repaired watches, older versions(before dial changes etc) or lesser versions (mineral instead of sapphire, asian instead of swiss). This has happened to me many times.
  8. REP REP REP.... For sure!
  9. My only hesitation in buying the watch was (aside from the Marine Maxi Diver- Blue surf) I do not like the direction of the company and the new watches as much as the classic. In fact I do not like most of them at all but my love for this model and there great history was enough not to be turned off by the new models. The finish on it is amazing. A step above any Gen I have owned. This watch was discontinued in 2007. I sold my Chrono Avenger to get this one. So I am down to two gens : This and the Pam 176H
  10. I saw this watch a year ago on someone else here in NY and really loved it. I love the 3717 but sometimes think it is a little plain and I love the big bang but sometimes think it is too flashy. This watch seems to have both good things about those for me ,a "hit you in the face from across the room" look with classic touches. I have been on the hunt for one used and it finally surfaced. Here is a pic and quick wrist shot.
  11. This is my new gen I picked up last week....
  12. Great!! My gen 176 gets less wrist time now because of the reflections on the crystal. I have considered more times than not getting a spare gen crystal and double coating it.
  13. Still this one...and probably for a while. In fact I think I will be selling a few of my other pieces soon. Hard to the wear others now
  14. New gen in the house
  15. I agree mickey. "I am not worth it." Just like it not worth it for me to go to a random post in the sales corner and ruin someone's sale. It is not worth my time or your time.
  16. Mickey,(sales police captain) Man, I am so tempted to comment. You obviously have it in for me. Something personal. The original ad was as I stated in the above posts. The logic may have been to the benefit of me making a few extra bucks but there was nothing bizarre about it and upgrade lite's have been sold here many times at a profit. You wrote in my thread that a "lite" will always be a "lite". You are not really so fooled by our dealers in the whole big bang mess that you think HBB lite modded(AR or bezel)<HBB standard? If I had upgraded the bezel also, I could have listed the thing by your logic for anything less than 1100 and this thread would not exist. Again I am sorry to the community for the thread. (not you) Whatever personal vendetta you have against me, just drop it or go after the other sales forum post.
  17. Everyone has been cool and I have gotten only positive messages since the thread was locked.
  18. One thing I wanted to say earlier is that I apologize to the group for the things getting out of hand in my thread. I certainly took part in getting it that way. I was bombared with PM's and believe me I PM'ed first but people were responding to my pm's straight to the post and being downright rude. My anger was reflected from the PM's I was getting and the posts. Then member were posting those PM's. These are people I have never offended or had contact with. It [censored] me off.....quite a bit. For that I am sorry and regretful. I certainly could have reduced the heat in my thread. I do stand by what I said though and what I have posted here earlier. As far as what my watch was worth..... Honestly, I could calculate pricing schemes that would come out cheaper and more than what I did. My first price was 75 over my investment. That is a fact. I have paid that extra for AR and lume before and did not really think twice about recouping those premiums myself. If some people find this a moral issue, I can assure you I was not sitting here thinking how I could scam anyone. If it makes anyone happy, I sold two HBB's one ceramic and one steel before the price increase when they first came out for 200-300. A few weeks later people were unloaded them used for 500 left and right without harassment. Also if anyone thinks I am a "dealer". Man oh man....... if you only knew how much money I have blown on flipping reps. I can assure you it is not a + number but a -$$$$. Anyway I think I was mistreated and thread crapping should not be allowed but I am also sorry for allowing anger to cloud my posts and handling of the situation. By the way, the watch is being sold locally for cash at 400 to one of our members. I reduced it to 425 before I pulled the ad and we worked out the 400 due to local with no fees. Once again, rejoice! I am losing money!
  19. I certainly see your point but that does not change the fact that I am willing to pay 100 extra for certain mods that are time sensitive if I decided I need a watch. I have just never seen a double AR watch go for the price of the parts alone. The board set the standard on that. I watch the auctions a bit. There are many modded watches for sale that "I" could do for cheaper also but I respect the time and money that they might have put in it when viewing an ad. You make a valid point and I can see it from that side.
  20. I am only going to write one quick thing here responding to the fact I was trying sell my watch other than something that it was. I am not going to respond in a negative way to any of the comments attacking my character. I got the price from a watch that sold for 840 months. This watch was an HBB lite with upgrades of AR and a bezel. I subtracted 300(bezel) from 840 and posted it for 540. A black magic with full mods is equal or greater than the 1100 one on angus site. So for 840 (just like the one that sold before) you could have an 1100. Is that flawed logic?..... Maybe so but based on previous sales I thought not. I think we all can agree the HBB pricing is FLAWED LOGIC! Do I think it is ok to charge more for modded(or anything that requires an investment in time) pieces than the sum of the parts? Yes Why? because I have done it in the past. I hate the wait. Sorry, but it is true. I have paid more than 100 for a double AR that is install and completed. I would do it again right now. Can I see how someone would find it wrong(or foolish to pay) or to ask more for these? I certainly can, but this is a free market isn't it? I simply was not being "dishonest" and that was my problem with whole issue. People telling me what "profit" I was making(meaning inaccurately), that I was ripping people off and posting my PM's out of context and inaccurately. I asked exactly 75 more than I put into the watch and I had not worn the watch. I asked the first posted to remove the post before I engaged in any conversation there. You guys have not seen the nasty PM's that went along with the posting. Kenberg, I am not sure what to say. I feel like if I did the same to another's sales post and started posting pm's, i probably would get banned. Leaving the post up in the sales forum and raking me over the coals is certainly shocking to me. Other boards' admins have emailed me about the fact this is poor form. Carlsbad, My comments were never directed to you. (just wanted to clear that up) P.S. Thanks for all the supportive emails and PM's. Many from the Admin's at other boards. I would have cancelled my account this morning otherwise.
  21. I would be interested also. I was thinking if you sent a kevlar strap to ABP paris or someone like that, they could do it. Chad
  22. please no one order this.. When they are so careless with spelling, i think we should send a message to the dealers that we are above that crap.
  23. Of course I am not talking about obvious fake-reps, which even look like a piece of crap. Let's think of DSN's 111H, which is a modded, without usual flaws, but still has it's own issues. Interesting to hear your thoughts on that. Best!
