  1. I bought one of these too and tried to fit it to my 1680. Unfortunatley all the numbers do not line up perfectly. Some do, some don't. Not up to my standards so project ditched.
  2. Where are the mods. This is off topic.
  3. [quote name='Nanuq' date='Jun 21 2006, 06:58 AM' post='72845' I vote for MBW's 6541 Milgauss. But it's a train wreck until you change the crown, bezel and crystal.
  4. Great lume job on the dial. Most lume jobs are either very poorly done or they are much too domed for a vintage Rolex. The glow to me is not really essential as most of my old gen watches have lost the glow completely. All you need now is a genuine bezel insert with vintage pearl (if you can find one)!!!!!
  5. I agree with Randy Vintage watches are just timeless and the designs of some of them just haven't been bettered. Having said that there are a couple of modern reps I would be if they could just get them right. Namely a PO and maybe a Tag Monaco.
  6. So how much is the watch, Neil!!!!!
  7. Well done. Great job. Just changed my MBW 1680 movement to a 2846 for a slower beat. Had to mess around with the datewheel at the same time as well.
  8. Definately too fast if you are using the Dremel. An ordinary drill will do a lot beter with a bit of oil to cool the bit. Start the drill spinning first BEFORE you enter the hole (if you know what I mean!!!!). You are only widening the original holes a small amount so this is important. I know as I broke mine on the first attempt but managed to resharpen the drill bit!!!!!!!
  9. And a better insert (fonts too thick)
  10. If you read the info closely he is only selling WHITE ones. Still good for your 1680 if you have a gen Rolex movement. No good for ETA as the wheel goes in the opposite direction. Nice find Chris.
  11. There is more chance of me coming up on the lottery and taking a trip to the moon to eat cheese than this happening. What say you, Jimmy?
  12. Have we got a list of contributors? Can you post them?
  13. Well I was considering buying one of these from Andrew, but you have now persuaded me not to. I think the flaws that are on this watch are unacceptable for the price that the PO is being sold at. For that sort of money you would think they could at least get the most visual part of the watch, the dial, right. Crooked markers and poor placement of logo are just completly unacceptable!!!!! As is the gap between the end link and the watch case!!!!!! I hope Andrew is reading this as he has just lost a sale.
  14. I can do it and would be willing to help you. But I live in the UK if that's any help?
  15. Give me one of your 6263's (you only need one anyway) and I will fit them for free!!!!!!!!!
  16. He helped me out in the past. I will help him out now. LMK
  17. Buy from one of our European dealers like Homer or Precious Time and you won't have any customs problems whatsoever. Up to now I have not had any seized from China, Thailand or Singapore.
  18. There's your answer Chris. You need 14,000,000 gallons of water!!!!!!!!!!!! Plenty of that in Scotland.
  19. If it's for your 1680 then 1.3mm is the size to use. Try these guys for carbide bits and make sure your drill is spinning fast enough when you drill them. Good idea to put a piece of masking tape over the hole just in case you slip. Then very slightly grind off the burr using a tapered grinding tool for a Dremel. Then just repolish the sides. Easy really. Drill Bits
  20. Found this great link to a review of a Rolex 1680. Hope you like it, I did. Red Sub Review
  21. What I do to push the hour and minute hands back on is use a cotton bud but cut off the bud part with a sharp knife squarely. This will leave a hollow plastic tube which just fits over the posts on an ETA movement allowing you to seat the hands and not leave any marks at all as it's soft plastic you are using. If you use hand removers be careful you don't scratch the delicate finish on your hands. I use the same technique as Chris for the second hands although I use the cotton bud tube to push it home.
  22. No. Did it all myself. If you are reasonably handy then don't let anyone fool you into thinking these mods are difficult. Some of them (not all) try to justify the prices they charge by claiming it's really difficult. Apart from the general watch tools that you would need, the most elaborate piece of equipement I have is a Dremel!!!!!!
