  1. Practice makes perfect. And that's what cheap broken CN subs are for: practice!
  2. I just ordered a 1A...
  3. So another little tidbit I heard through the grapevine is that the MBW 1A comes from the same factory as the MBW vintage models, while the 1B comes from an entirely different factory....
  4. Perhaps someone could explain what the meltdown shows us? I have no interest in yellow gold watches, but I am curious... How do I know that is a chunk of melted gold versus a little melted gold plating and a chuck of melted brass?
  5. Good question. Tribal has both cases at his disposal, so surely he can fill us in.
  6. LOL Ape!!! Play with things first, ask questions later! Gotta love it. See you in chat.
  7. Yes I have noticed some ETA based subs are starting to use the TWG/TTK Asian 21J dial now.
  8. Interesting, Andrew... I'm curious as to the distinction between "thick gold plated" and "gold wrapped".
  9. A few light swipes with Cape Cod ought to do the trick... It won't go from matte to mirror all at once. And there's always 4/0 steel wool in case you overdo it. You might also want to pop that bezel off and do the top of the case also, but be careful. I had one of those TTK/TWG subs with an amazingly subborn bezel. I didn't care because the movement was broken and I'm just using it for internal parts, but in order to get that bezel off I ended up bending it. Yow!!
  10. Well, all my favorites are in transit to Canada. My Omega SMP with electric blue dial is in pieces as I'm in the middle of a gen hands install but need a new pair of tweezers to complete it. So it'll be my 4 year old Cartier Roadster with the two tone dial for a few days... I may even pull out the gen SD, but I hate wearing that to work. Unfortunately no pic at the moment of my "lesser worn" watches.
  11. Nice pearl indeedy. Give that band a light polish, and viola!!
  12. Longines has made some nice watches over the years.... This one is no exception!
  13. Quite unsettling. I was in the middle of the Loma Prieta 7.0 in 1989, and it's no fun. Glad you and your son are safe.
  14. Thanks for the lead! Their online search didn't turn up any Horotec tweezers... Will have to call them tomorrow. Edit: Ah ha!!! http://www.ofrei.com/page1044.html#17290 - Those Horotec carbon fiber extra fine tips ought to work well.
  15. I'd like to find some #2 (or close to it) plastic or plastic-tipped tweezers, primarily for resetting hands into place. The standard stainless tweezers worry me with expensive hands. I don't want to mar or scratch them. So far the closest thing I've found are on this page (style #K2a) but they look a bit blunt and bulky. This picture shows what I'm looking for - standard stainless tweezers with fine plastic tips - but I can't seem to find anything like these online:
  16. I almost pulled the trigger on a gen 177H for $3100 used... A great deal that I somewhat regret passing up. Maybe next summer.
  17. Indeed a very handsome watch.
  18. Exactly. Coming here with the "Higgy Humba" malarky was no way to regain anyone's respect. And for me, this isn't either. Enough is enough.
  19. I think that would depend on how much airtime the JLC got relative to the cast of the show!
  20. Chris, very cool. I've just ordered the TZ1 kit myself.
  21. Supposedly shipments began last week while Palp as out of town...
  22. I found a broken TTK/TWG 21J watch for $35. Perfect when all you want the watch for is the dial and datewheel.
  23. If it's a datewheel overlay alignment issue, then it would seem like the date opposite the 11 (probably 26 or 27) would be misaligned to the OTHER side of the window. Is this the case?
  24. I think the mystery is solved.
  25. Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if yours was an MBW case, Ubi. MBW... Mmmm deeep rehaut: Thick bezel: In place with gen (domed) insert:
