  1. I am so happy that you got this worked out (sort of). It looks great!! Congrats. Cheers
  2. Yes there was, it was originally only available in Japan I beleive (although the original was all stainless steel, not white gold). Its an extremely rare site these days, I still wait for the day when I can find more pictures of one.
  3. For rotor bearings, check this out http://www.rwg.cc/members/Modding-Rotor-Hu...B+rotor+bearing Pretty cool, and it really made a difference to that HBB IMO. For day/date wheels, check this out http://www.rwg.cc/members/Installing-Valjo...750+date+wheels Equally cool stuff, and I presume that if ETA parts can be fitted to an Asian movement, that the reverse is also possible too, but you never know in this game. Good luck with that project, I'll bet the finished project will be well worth the work. Cheers
  4. I'll be adding photos of all of these to my "doxa" folder in my pictures for future reference for sure.
  5. Dang it...I just spotted this one, Ebay #150329191600 Same seller has a Diving Star and a Searambler up on the 'Bay as well.
  6. Personally, I'd keep the black bezel you have now on there, it looks more sporty I think. BTW - I guess I'm out of the loop on this one, is it franken or genuine? If franken, is it a Valjoux or Poljot movement? Either way, it sure looks good, congrats on getting that one. Cheers
  7. Glad I was able to help and glad Nanuq was able to pick it up, at least we know it will go to a good home (just not my good home ). Well, at least I managed to save the pictures for further reference. Maybe someday, karma will bring one to my door. Congrats
  8. Oh, if I had the cash, this would be mine, but I don't. If you do, and your interested, here it is, Ebay #150328908420 P.S. If anyone buys it, please share pictures here Edit: Scroll to last post..............
  9. Ninjas...Sweet Sorry, just had to find another use for that smiley
  10. I will be at the NAWCC mid-winter regional in Daytona Beach FLorida on Friday, I am wondering just what the "mart" will have this year. Dealers and collectors lowering prices to create capital, dealers and collectors only bringing what they think will sell high and leave everything else at home, or less dealers and collectors even showing up at all? I was thinking of taking a notebook and writing down some notes on this years pricing just for kicks. As for me, limited funds will be forcing me to look at brands like Seiko and Poljot for any interesting finds. One thing for sure, I will be paying special attention to what shows up for the silent auctions this time. I'll be sure to report back (with pics) with anything cool that I can get. Wish me luck
  11. No, the function of this site and others like it is to educate the buying public so that someone does not get ripped off by buying what they think is gen only to find out later that it is a rep. Its not illegal to talk of reps or do research on such. It is illegal to sell them and it is totally unethical and immoral to sel a rep as a gen.
  12. Pictures are kinda dark. It looks like it has a Jap automatic and a nylon case ring . I doubt that this is a full working chrono. Edit - let me clarify, the movement in that pic looks like a copy of the Seiko 7S36B that is in my Seiko 5 Sports that is on my wrist today. Also, I'm not making fun of Japanese watches, I actually take them quite seriously.
  13. I remember the Breitling faithful was very amazed (and scared) of the accuracy of the Skyland when it came out last year. They even posted a pic of a rep, and many had trouble seeing any "tells" at all, many thought it was really a pic of a gen instead. Some thought it may have been franken with many gen parts, although it was a pic of a rep "right out of the box".
  14. You probably better off that way Reality TV is bad for all of us.
  15. All right, I have been watching this reality series on NBC for a couple of seasons now and I am becomming more and more convinced that there are some watch advertising goin on here. For those who do not know, there are two professional trainers on the show that each have a team. Recently, I have noticed that both of these trainers are wearing something high end watches, sometimes different watches in different parts of the program. I noticed trainer Bob wearing; Hublot Big Bang, AP Royal Oak Offshore Chrono, Panerai, what looks to be an all gold Rolex GMT as well as an all gold watch that is shaped similar to a Frank Mueller. I also noticed trainer Gillian wearing what clearly looks like an all gold Rolex Daytona as well as what looks like a Cartier Roadster. No doubt that these folks could very well afford to collect high end time pieces, but what I notice is that from time to time the camera angles are such that there is no doubt as to what they are wearing. This happens a lot on cooking shows due to the nature of what they are trying to show you and that ones watch is bound to get in a lot of shots, but a reality show about weight loss? The show is interesting enough in how these folks change thier lives and their apperence, but seeing the occasional watch shot makes the program much more interesting for me. You know, I am really starting to beleive that I am not normal
  16. Interesting discussion we have going here. It just goes to show, even if it is an "important" enough brand to rep, that does not mean that that brand can be considered "popular". This is true in many cases, both Kodak and Leica both manufacture cameras. If you say Kodak to someone, it is internationally understood that you are talking of a camera or some other type of photographic equipment. If you say Leica to someone, they may or may not know that you are reffering to a camera or photographic equipment even though the Leica is a much more robust and professional grade of camera. An example of brand recognition. The morning radio show I sometimes listen to has a contest to where folks who call in are given certain words to describe something and the caller must identify what they are talking about. To folks in the US, you may remember a game show called "The $25,000 Pyramid", well this as a lot like that. One day, the clues to a category were "Rolex Timex Seiko", and the caller immediately guessed "brands of watches" and of course were correct. If the clues given were "Patek Phillipe IWC Glashutte", I doubt the answer given would have been correct. An example of folks recognising a luxury brand name. A fellow I work with overheard me and another talking of watches one day and stated that years ago, his grandmother had given him an Omega for Christmas (model unknown), and he asked us if this was a good brand. He knows Rolex as a high end brand because of his fathers Submariner, but had no idea of Omega. He always figured he got a "cheaper" watch since it was not a Seiko or a Fossil. Just a pure case of someone not being familiar with a brand name. Of course, I told him that if he ever wants to unload that "cheap Omega", I'll be glad to take it off his hands . As far as Breitling being more popular than Tag Heuer, well, I think they are getting pretty even at this point. Tag Heuer is very popular in the US, and probably due to its sponsorship of major sporting events as well as their celebrity "ambassadors" that advertise for them. Breitling, as been mentioned, has been using more magazine and billboard advertising as of late. I also beleive that Simon guy from American Idol wears a Breitling and that helps their visibility as well.
  17. No appologies necessary, its all good Movado has been American owned for some time now, and is probably not marketed much in other parts of the world. The Movado Group currently markets many different brands such as Movado, ESQ, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. The legendary El Primero chronograph movement was a joint venture between Movado and Zenith. I have a picture of a Movado Datron HS360 chronograph on my desktop, its one of my grail watches
  18. True that, my humble appologies to the community . I tended to drift toward my own knowledge / affection to the various brands. I also for got to mantion Swatch in the list, feel free to insert Swatch into the list where you feel appropriate . As I always have said, there is a whole world of great collectible watches out there which would surely take a lifetime to research / enjoy.
  19. Most popular "Mall" brands; 1. Seiko 2. Citizen 3. Bulova / Accutron 4. Movado 5. Fossil Most popular "Luxury " brands; 1. Rolex 2. Omega 3. Tag Heuer 4. Cartier 5. Breitling 6. IWC Most popular "WIS" brands; 1. Patek Phillipe 2. Audemars Piquet 3. Vacheron Constentin (spelling?) 4. JLC 5. IWC 6. Panerai Most popular "Niche / Luxury" brands; 1. Hublot 2. Piaget 3. Ulysse Nardin 4. RGM 5. Breguet Most popular "Department store" brands; 1. Timex 2. Pulsar / Seiko 3. Casio 4. Citizen 5. Invicta Most popular "Flea Market" brands; 1. Casio 2. Timex 3. Q & Q 4. Pulsar / Seiko 5. Unbranded Bling Bling watches Most popular "WIS or only known by the watch savy which has not been repped yet (at least to my knowledge)" brands; 1. Sinn 2. Doxa 3. Hamilton 4. Vostok Europe 5. Poljot Honorable mention brands; 1. RXW (the original, think "Plasmir Milgraph") 2. Orsa 3. Eterna 4. Zenith 5. Chase Durer Ok, so I went overboard , I was having some fun with this. Most may disagree with me as the list goes down as my own personal taste was taking over, but the first 3 categories I feel are pretty accurate where I live. Yes, IWC gets mentioned twice as I do think of them as a luxury brand in image and a true WIS interest considering its history. Cheers
  20. For Seiko products, if one of the trusted rep dealers cannot source what you want, I would stick with a "brick and mortar" AD (Seiko has various "company stores" that sell discontinued models at discounted prices). If you cannot get what you want at a good price for you, do a search on Amazon.com or WatchesPlanet.com (an Amazon. com website), Overstock.com, Bidz.com, etc.. These on-line dealers, while being legit, are also "grey market" dealers. That means that anything you get is probably overstock or discontinued and the factory warranty is probably void. Remember, Seiko makes hundreds and hundreds of styles, many of which are not intended to be sold in your country (for example, Seiko 5, Grand Seiko and Prospex series are only officially sold in Japan and Asian markets), so any of these are obtainable, but the selling store would have to provide warranty. Also, keep an eye on Timezone and Watchuseek sales forums as these sites have dedicated sections for Seiko. Happy hunting, and welcome aboard. Cheers
  21. Carry it around in a pocket full of change perhaps and let the coin edges do the aging work?
  22. Any chance that you might disclose to us just who you got this watch from? It may sound silly discussing "a rep of a rep", but as I have said before, alot of folks are willing to pay hundreds more for a watch depending on how/what is advertised . Now that I see a pic of how it was when you received it, it does not look like what we normally see for a MBW/MBK. Maybe there are some changes in the newer reps comming out of that factory, maybe not. I only hope you can get proper resolution to your situation. Sorry to hear of all of this cats, please keep us posted. sc68
  23. Is that you Klink?? Life is good
  24. That Chase Durer has made it on to TV, the character "Michael Weston" on the TV series "Burn Notice" wears one. Cool looking watch, cool TV show too.
