  1. I can tell you that most reps on this board and sold by our dealers will pass as gens to a very noob eye. I'm not sure where you got the information on Panerai having yellow AR, but this is incorrect. The AR may seen invisible on some models, while being very purple or blue on others. As others have said come in, do a little research and you will learn a whole lot.
  2. I used to love oakley, but now I feel too old to wear them 29 on my way to 30. Now I'm down with the Raybans and other aviators.
  3. This is the answer to your question. If you will never be happy with a rep than buy the real deal. If you can deal with 98% or so go with the rep.
  4. I think the series isn't bad for network tv. I was a huge fan of the movies, but 3 was pretty terrible from what I remember. I think the show is better than t3, but in all fairness I guess I should go back and watch t3 again to see if I like it. If they come out for a second season I'll watch it. No cool watch sightings from what I remember.
  5. You won't find a modded 111 for $200, but our most of our dealers didn't sell modded out of the box back then. A good 111 from any of our dealers would have been $300-$350 and had 1) thin crown 2) No SL on hands or dial 3) Either a swiss movement with incorrect bridges and a low cannon or a asian hi beat with no swan neck 4) Probably Sapphire, but you would be taking your chances 5) a crappy rep strap that probably isn't even leather. The watch would now be 2 years old with no service. I'm sure I can find these for $200 or less.
  6. I agree on this 100%. I have never bought a brand new gen. I have several used that look new for the price of 1 that would have been new!
  7. Gen 111 or 112 for me if you have the cash extra cash, if not then rep it up. I have a 127 rep, because I can't afford the real thing. I think the higher end watches are better values for reps. SMP and Tag Link Chrono can be had for $1k+ on TZ and the bay if you are patient. I won't pay $300+ for those, because I'd rather save and buy the real thing. Just my 2-cents. Also gen may have better resale. 2 years ago gen 111 or 112 on TZ under $3k now $3.5k. Rep 111 was $400. Rep 111 from 2 years ago now worth $200, gen went up in value easily $200-$300 if not abused. So I'm better off by $500 having bought the gen over the rep. Granted I now have $3K tied up. The math isn't perfect and I won't debate that, but I still think the point can be made for certain watches.
  8. Awesome pieces Jay! I love that Franken! If you should ever decide to sell it, just kidding. That is a piece to hold on to! Can you post any pics of the new movement that you dropped into it?
  9. I was just about to say that one of Lello's datewheels would look good in there. Not that the standard ETA doesn't! Awesome watch Zig!
  10. Replica cars have always facinated me since I was a kid. Best Franken I ever saw was on ebay about 6 years ago. A real 355 was flood damaged and salvaged. Someone picked it up down south and dropped a Mustang 4.6 into it somehow. It looked pretty good from the outside, but the inside wasn't too good. I think it still sold for close to $40k.
  11. +2 The best offense is a good defense. I bought a gen 111F, and got a great deal only because I knew what to look for. Now my friends email me to find out if the watches they are looking at on ebay are gens, and a lot of times especially PAMs at almost market prices are fakes.
  12. I agree that a closed caseback will be the best bet and you can throw a real swiss movement to boot. I'd be interested. I see a lot of interest as anyone would expect, but what is the game plan? Realistically you need a gen in the hand of the person who is versed in coming up with CAD plans or something like that. I mean isn't that how these super reps come about? Someone buys a gen, they take it apart and reverse engineer every step as best as they can. Shortcuts are inevitable and these are the flaws that we find on the boards.
  13. So Asad I take it you decided to keep the speedy pros and get this 112 rep instead?
  14. The watch in the pic is Gen. No way in hell I would trade 2 speedies for it. Not that it's not nice. First off it's a base model E series which is few years old and without a box. I see these on TZ quite often for around $3k with a full box set and often times a couple extra nice straps. The pre-moon speedy is awesome. If you want to sell it outright I would do that before trading it. If you do decide to sell it outright PM me.
  15. Looks asian to me even in his photos. The Zigmeister has given the thumbs up on the asian movement and many others are saying they are good as well. No 100% swiss movement has these bridges outside of Panerai. Even if the movement started Swiss it would now be full of asian parts.
  16. Looks great! I've seen a couple gen SS PAMs that the owners had bead blasted as well. Yours looks as good if not better than theirs
  17. Thanks for the pics and clarification Golfman. I wonder how long before our dealers can copy the changes?
  18. I didn't know the historic models were going to get the new quick change system. I've seen it and it looks pretty cool, but nothing is simplier than a screw. I'm sure your lugs will certainly like the new system, no more scratches!
  19. Nice eye. Did anyone else notice Dane Cook had a Monaco Chrono in "Good Luck Chuck". My apologies to anyone who sits through that piece of sh*t just to see the watch.
  20. Nice strap! Do they come in that black case?
  21. Great looking and best of all one of a kind!
  22. Great strap V. Great deal as well! Asad-I'm loving the unbranded destroyo.
  23. eddie's dial with a relume should be good. I have the same dial. I'm gonna have The Zigmeister put the relume on it and throw a set of Davidsan's hand on it. Mine has the sapphire nicely domed with no AR which is nice. I think the crystal looks as good as Davidsan's, but without the blue AR.
