  1. I pretty much do the same thing. This is a great tactic to use to buy genuine watches. A little patience and luck goes a long way when looking for a gen.
  2. That dial is horrible. It looks like someone freehanded it with white out. I'll stick to my Ajoe. I could careless about the thickness of the case. I thought the Asian 2892 was problematic anyway.
  3. I don't see any of my customers face to face so I just wear whatever to work, but usually nothing to good. My family owns our business and I don't want anyone knowing how much money I make or don't make. When I meet with my customers then I usually wear a PAM or something nice. None of them even know what Panerai is so I guess it doesn't really matter too much.
  4. I vote for open caseback. If you are gonna put the OEM movement it is worth looking at no matter how it is decorated. This project looks awesome. I can't wait to see the end result. Are you going to do the work Jay? O.T. Jay, I saw a OEM 176 for sale the other day and the seller was commenting on the only thing wrong were scratches on the bezel. I thought about your eraser trick and how it could have taken the them right out. Thought about PMing the seller, but I'm sure the watch was sold rather fast.
  5. Since you will be doing the work yourself you can probably see if the hands match the dial when you are done putting the SL on the dial. If not, I'd do the hands at the same time so everything is 1)the same color and 2) the lume lasts the same amount of time. Best of luck and post some pics when you are done.
  6. I love the big ones for work, play, casual, but I agree with the article strictly on dresswatches.. My dresswatch was a navitimer, but I found it too big for formal events. I picked up a mint 1970 Rolex Air King with a classic stick dial. It's only 34mm, but I think it is perfect for a wedding or formal event. Classic dial and size. Also not bad to have a real Rolex on when your talking to the ladies. Just my 2-cents.
  7. I don't see why they wouldn't sell to the public, but do you have any experience working with SL? If not them you will probably need to practice on a few old dials/hands first. Add that to the cost of the SL and you may want to consider having one of the board modders do it for you. I usually like to do anything I can myself, whether it be working on my car or anything, but when it comes to precision and the smallest mistake ruining a dial, I'll leave it to the pros. A
  8. The watch in the auction is definately quartz. Either way the point you make is very valid. When the price of some of our highly modified reps is approaching 50% or more of the real deal I feel it just better to buy the real thing. That being said there seems to be no shortage of buyers for pieces that are highly modifed. To each his own.
  9. That's messed up. It's not as if you are a dealer or anything. How many transactions do you have in a month? Something sounds fishy. Anyone have beef with you in the last couple of months that could have contacted PP to make this happen. Either way I hope that things work out.
  10. I saw that it just sold for $360. A sharp looking watch too. I thought about buying it, but I don't need any more chronos!
  11. I've heard that DSN has the best shaped crystal and his AR is easy to remove if you know what you are doing. Either way Fiddy with the blue or not is still my favorite watch!
  12. Pretty nice, but I still prefer Ajoe's smaller 03-92 in real PVD. I've got one that I just sent away from a relume. Once that is done I think it will be almost perfect. I'm sure you can get this and put the real PVD and lume on, but that's too much work for me.
  13. +1 on the blue in the room. I've seen hundreds of pics on TZ over the last 2.5-3 years of gen 127's and never have I seen any blue or hardly any for that matter. As far as rep fiddys are concerned I'd rather be without AR then have an incorrect blue. Just my 2-cents.
  14. He's worth the wait. I'm scheduled sometime in May and yeah it is hard to wait, but when I get the watch back I'll remember why it was worth the wait!
  15. +1 you can pick up a gen for a little more. RXW is cool, but not as cool as the real thing.
  16. Wow Rolli, What a awesome piece. Great work!
  17. Funny that article must be almost 3 years old now. That article was in the very first men's vogue which I bought on a flight home just for the hell of it. I had never heard of Panerai before that article, but that it what got me into the brand. After reading the article and seeing how much the watches were, I started looking for reps. My favorite at the time and still is the 1950 which was going for under $8k at the time. Forward 3 years later and that watch is worth what $25k. Funny that I had always wondered later on where that article was and here you posted it for me. Now that I have a knowledge of the brand i'll have to re-read it and see if it is accurate.
  18. I'm drooling. Yeah, it would be nice if the dealers could source the movement for the 217.
  19. I picked up a Seiko Black Monster about a year ago for $50 used. The piece looked like new and it is awesome. Heavy as anything and the lume is out of this world.
  20. I've heard/read that there were only 3 L dials made. Jay do you know if that is true? If so that dial is very rare indeed. Awesome to see that at least one in fact exists past the notorious model pictured on the Panerai website.
  21. I'm pretty sure that The Zigmeister doesn't want to do them. Anyone else relume these? USA preferred. Please let me know. Thanks! A
  22. Wow! I think maybe if I sold my house and lived out of my car I could have 2-3 of those Awesome pics!
  23. Hey Unlce, These pics are awesome and so is your knowledge! I like your attitude. I having a feeling that your way of thinking is probably why you in fact have 2 gen PAMs with your name engraved on them. Keep the pics coming!
  24. I'll second the blue bond SMP, and maybe even the Planet Ocean if it's in the new Bond 22.
